If you have been reading my blog for a while
now, you know my obsession love for white slipcovers.
Well, I still do not have a full living room full of
white slipcovers, but I do have a lovely
shabby chic comfy reading chair with an extra lovely
white slipcover now…
Before…
Confused yet? Well here it is in the short version…
So I bought a chair for nearly free on craigslist,
& I ordered an Ikea Slipcover off of Ebay to go on the chair.
I had measured the chair & thought it would be a near perfect
fit, but needless to say.. it wasn’t.
My husband & I pondered for a while about what to do,
but a white slipcover was a must…
So we got the saw out & decided to take the back of the chair
apart & trim the back off…
After trimming the wooden back down with the saw
we put the upholstery back together to get ready for the slipcover.
I think I may be the only one who ever altered a chair to fit the slipcover,
but the slipcover was prettier, so it won.
After trimming the back down, the slipcover fit
perfectly. I am still waiting for the wrinkles to fall
out on the chair, but for now I am loving it.
This tiny corner of the living room before the big
slipcover chair…
I love that chair… but it was too small for the corner
& not as cozy as it is now…
I love the durability & the quality of this Ikea
slipcover so far. I would for sure recommend them…
This corner is by no means done,
but I am loving the changes so far & looking forward
to many more changes coming soon…
I wish I had better pictures to show you,
but these are just some quick photos that I took
before we left on vacation..
But you get the idea of the wonderful cozy white
slipcover. Do you love that leather ottoman? You can
read more about it {here}.
I hope you are all enjoying this holiday season so far!
I am having the most amazing time in Michigan &
enjoying every second with family & friends.
This weekend was full of fun Christmas parties &
last minute Christmas shopping.
& the weeks to come are filled with fun times with
family & friends.
Talk to you soon…

haha you are too funny.. I am stopping now
Thank you so much I hope you had a very blessed Holiday!
I bought a bunch of drop cloths a few months ago to learn to slipcover and just never got around to it. I’ve had the drop cloths so long that I had to actually use one as a drop cloth when I painted
haha that’s hilarious.. I love drop cloth slipcovers! I would love to tackle that someday!
Hilarious. First time I’ve heard of chopping down a chair to fit a slipcover.
haha I thought it was pretty funny too! I wanted the slipcover to fit so badly that this was one of my only options

Hello NEW FOLLOWER here..

Would love for you to stop in and link up here http://shoprubyjean.com/2011/12/sew-crafty-tuesday-linky-3-and-features/
Thank you so much!!! & yes, I do love practically Free!!
LOVE your slip covered chair! It definitely fits the corner better and looks very cozy. FYI I’m still unbelievably jealous over your leather ottoman! If every you decided you want to send it my way I really wont be upset
Hi! I am new to your blog and love it! You have some great ideas and finds. I do have a question. You have a lot of wonderful fabrics around your home, especially the bird and bike pillows….where do you get your fabrics or buy the pillows? Thanks!
Now that is making something work! Way to go. I had an expensive custom sofa that I no longer liked the fabric on and decided one day to try an Ektorp sofa cover from IKEA, just on the chance that it would fit. It did (although an inch too short in the skirt but I can live with that.) Now I have my white slip without all the sewing. We also have a chocolate Lab and two boys so it gets washed OFTEN!
Great job! I love it. I am still in search of the perfect Craiglist chair for that same purpose. That was good to find one too. Love your creative fix with the saw and the slipcover. Hey, that paint on the walls looks like Benjamin Moore Coastal Fog. Could it be? Pretty….
Hi Liz Marie!
Your couch-reconstruction story was featured Creative Juice this week. I really need white slipcovers…my boys are so messy!
