Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Class

If you follow me on Facebook or instagram {Lizmariegalvan},
you know that I attended an Annie sloan painting class in
Holland, Michigan this past weekend at R. Lucas Scott.
I met the owner, Randy, last year & quickly became a fan of his work.
When I walked into is store for the first time I was awe struck.
I found myself swooning over every piece & falling in love with all of his work.
Ever since then, we have been keeping in touch
from NC to MI with just little encouraging comments,
but as many of you know about my trip to Michigan this past week
for the passing of my father in law, I wanted to visit his store again
while I was in Michigan. Lucky me that he was holding a
painting class that same week! Sign me up & call me a student
because I love to keep learning about this craft
that I have become so passionate about.

The class was this past Sunday & it was so much fun to spend a day in his
beautiful store painting, & being surrounded with inspiration.
I chose to paint a table for my parents cottage that my mom has been wanting
me to paint for a while now, & so I killed two birds with one stone.
I took a few pictures, but was really busy trying to finish my table within the
four hour class period time. First a small tour of R. Lucas Scott

The store is too perfect right? Every time I am in there, I want
everything!  Now onto the class…

This is Randy, the painting genius.

These are the other two ladies that were in the class with me &
Donovan, who works for Randy. I was the lucky one who got a brush
that shed like you wouldn’t believe onto my table, so Donovan was
helping me get all the hairs out of the wet paint haha. Thanks Donovan!

Hard at work on my table. Let’s see this beauty before…

& the table for my mom after…

The colors I used were olive & old ochre.

The Painting class was a wonderful experience & I can’t stop talking about it to
everyone that I see. I recommend an Annie Sloan painting class to anyone with experience or no experience with painting furniture. & if you are lucky enough to live in Michigan, I recommend heading to Holland to R. Lucas Scott to meet Randy & take one of his classes. You will not be disappointed. Have I mentioned my love for Annie Sloan paint has grown?
I am pretty much obsessed & now that I am back in North Carolina, I am working
on a few pieces with the paint.. Can’t wait to show you!

You can see more of Randy’s work on his website {here}
or on his facebook page {here}. Are you wanting some Annie
Sloan chalk paint or waxes
? You can order them straight from
his website {here}. You can also check his facebook page for his next
painting class. I am in love with the paint & will be sharing
more of a review in another post.

  4. great blog…..its good to see whats being done around the world…..

  5. I happen to LOVE Randy too! Actually, our whole family does. I buy my paint from him, get encouraged in ‘the business’ by him and am inspired by him. I think he just likes us for the cookies and bread:-) So glad you got to spend the day with him. He is one special guy!! Oh, and olive and old ochre, yeah, pretty much my favorites.

    • Another Randy fan! He has lots of them :) It’s nice to “meet” you.. He is a great encourager & is probably one of the nicest people I have met. & olive & ochre are wonderful! I honestly only picked them for my mom, but I am glad that I did! Thanks for leaving the sweet comment :)

  6. Liz, I aspire to be like you (from a cupcake standpoint, of course)…keep pushing me and I’ll push you to achieve bigger and greater…you are well on your way to having your own little boutique and having others blog about their experience when they meet and work with you…every body will want to wear your skin (if they don’t already want to ;)…much love, Niki

  7. Looks like fun!!! And the table turned out great. I’m sure your mom will love it!

  8. I adore ASCP but I don’t love the price :( I’ve purchased a few quarts from a supplier here in Charlotte, NC and while I love painting with it, I’ve started making my own chalk paint (w/ plaster of paris) and I love it just as much for the money. The table you painted looks awesome!!

  9. I found a blog that I think you will fall in love with :) http://www.abeachcottage.com/

  10. What a fabulous shop! Thank you for sharing it with us! I will for sure go check out Randy’s website and facebook page! I just love the color combo you chose for your mom’s table and you did a wonderful job on it! I have a passion for ASCP, too! I pinned your pretty project to my “Paint it Annie” board! Thank you for the inspiration!
    Happy Painting!
    Best Wishes and Blessings,
    Amanda

  12. Christine Woods says:

I am from New Zealand and have booked into a store in Tampa Florida called Robyns Story to do an Annie Sloan painting class in July. I am coming to Sth Carolina, Charleston. Do you know if there are any stores there that stock Annie Sloan paint.? Your table looks gorgeous. I paint furniture too and have turned my home into a French Country Cottage store. Would love to hear from you. Chris

  13. Christine Woods says:

I like your table and cant wait to come to the states and try out Annie Sloan paints. Is there a store in Charleston, Sth Carolina that stock her paint?

  14. I love ASCP and this turned out awesome! I would love for you to post it on my link party at… http://www.doodlesandstitches.com/2012/06/fabulous-friday-link-party-5.html Have a great weekend & thanks for the inspiration… the class looks like it was a lot of fun!

  15. Jackie Crnkovich says:

Love your table. I’m wondering if you could confirm the color of the two red dressers in the pictures. I’m getting ready to paint furniture for the first time. I think I want to use the Primer Red, but I’m hoping it’s not too brown. Those dressers are the exact color I want.

  16. I am a new Annie Sloan retailer in the Boston area~I had my first workshop yesterday….and what fun I had with the 7 ladies in my class. But how I found you was more interesting..my son Colin was helping me with the class and tweeted about the workshop..then searched Chalk Paint™ and your blog link came up. He was impressed with both you and your painting projects! Me too! I love how your table came out in Olive and Old Ochre~very pretty!!

  17. I love your blog! (sorry I just had to state that). I was wondering if you could tell me if you are in love with Annie Sloan’s chalk paint or if your recipe for chalk paint is just as good… I have been debating on purchasing some of Annie Sloan’s but haven’t because of the price.. but everyone seems to love. I was just wondering if you thought it was worth the money or if I should just try to make some myself… Thanks!!!!

  18. What a wonderful transformation! I love your color choices too! Thanks so much for sharing at Mom On Timeout!

  19. I’m so bummed that I missed Randy’s class on Sunday! I’ll be sure to keep tabs on his next one. :) Thanks for the fun post today, Liz Marie! I was at the Allegan Antique Market and met Randy for the first time. Nice guy – and wow – what a gorgeous booth he had! Thanks for the great pics of his shop. I’ve never been there but have heard great things about it. Need to definitely make the trip over there soon! Oh….and your table turned out beautifully! Love the color combination you chose. Don’tcha just love ASCP???? ♥

    xoxo laurie

  20. I’m so glad to hear that you liked the class. I’ve been to the store and met Randy and have been thinking about taking the class, but I live on the other side of the state, so it’s a bit of a drive. I think I may just have to make the commitment to get over there and take the class – it sounds like it’s worth it! ;)

  21. OMG! This is beautiful! You’re so lucky I’m jealous! No Annie Sloan down here in New Mexico and definitely not classes :( I’d love it if you’d link up to TA-DA TUESDAY
