It’s almost too simple…
1. Olive Oil
2. Dirty makeup brushes
3. Dish soap {any soap will do}
4. A plate
1. Mix equal parts olive oil & dish soap
2. Rub makeup brush in mixture on plate
3. Rinse with warm water & lay flat on towel to dry
Laying your brushes flat is idea so that your brushes last longer.
Setting them upright will allow water to get into the ferrule
{The metal part that holds the fibers}
& allow the ferrule to detach from the handle.
Tip #1:
You can also dry them upside down by taping them to the
mirror above your sink or in your shower.
Tip #2:
For a quick cleanup you can put rubbing alcohol
in a spray bottle, spray your brushes & wipe off
on a rag.
I try to wash my brushes once a week.
But sometimes I forget, & let’s face it {haha get it?}
No one is perfect.. so do it when your remember.
Not washing your brushes can lead to unwanted
pimples & skin issues. Be good to your skin!
As far as the soap you use, make sure it’s good
for your skin, everyones skin is different.

I use baby soap and rinse well with warm water and also dry flat on towel. Didn’t think of putting olive oil with the soap. Thanks for the tip!
I put DROPS…maybe 2 or 3 of olive oil and thats it. I have found that the oil makes an even bigger and faster build up of makeup. I use the drops of oil with baby shampoo. Works like a charm.
Very interesting! I have never seen this cleaning method. I just use shampoo most of the time. Thanks for your recommendation. Stacie xo
I SOAK THEM IN WITCH HAZEL.
I actually use E.L.F. makeup brush cleaner to deep clean and spot clean my makeup brushes. And I always lay them flat to dry.
I can’t get the solution rinsed out all the way. I’ve rinsed them four times already and there still “sudsy” at the bottom.
I use naturally derived handsoap. It’s moisturizing and works better than the expensive sephora cleaner I was using.
I use a gentle PH balanced soap called divawash (its designed for use with a divacup but is great for skin) and then i put my brushes in my coastalscents brush guards and dry them upside down to keep the water out of the handle.
I use hot water and vinegar and let my brushes soak for about 10-15 min…then rinse under the faucet
I usually use shampoo and boiling hot water in a cup, swirl the brushes around, rub against the bottom of the cup then rinse in cold water and lay flat to dry
I also use shampoo, I massage it into the bristles with my hand, and then I have warm water running in my sink. I press the bristles sideways against the sink under the running water while rotating the brush until there are no more suds and the water is running clear down the drain (no more make up coming out of the brush.)
What is the reasoning for the oil? All I use is shampoo and I find it doesn’t completely clean them , maybe I should try it.
Every night after I wash my face, I use Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo for my makeup brush. I use warm water, then i pure a little J&J on my brush and scrub like a mad woman. I also pure some J&J in the center of the brush( or the bristles) and scrub there as well. I also wash my eye-shadow brush with J&J as well. I will be trying this idea though, tonight
I use 1/4 c hot water, 1/4 c white vinegar, and 1 TBSP dish soap. Mix in a cup and wash brushes, rinse with water and dry flat.
