This fall has been a crazy busy one! With school, work, friends, & sports, there has been very little time for seasonal decorating. But even with being super busy I did want to add some simple fall decor to our porch. I wanted to do it on the cheap with using stuff I already had around the house & I’d say it was a success. You can see my shabby chic simple fall decor inside our house {here}.
First up in our simple fall decor are these DIY planters I made from buckets from the Dollar store. Yes, the dollar store. With some spray paint & raffia, these planters were the perfect addition to my mums.
You can use buckets you already have around the house or find similar ones at the dollar store. The spray paint I used was specifically for plastic & was a hammered texture for an added detail. These were the buckets before the spray paint and raffia…
I wanted something simple & cheap to display our mums & I think these bucket planters were the perfect solution…
& next up is that wreath. I really wanted to only use things that I had on hand & not spend any money on extra things….
I used metal stencils that I had from Michaels form their dollar section for the word “Fall”. I tied the stencils on with leftover raffia from my planters. The gourds I had on hand from another project. I spray painted the gourds gold & glued them to the wreath. I used a doily banner that I had made before for something else & tied it to the wreath.
How’s that for a “free” wreath. I’m happy with how festive it turned out.
& I’m also really happy with not spending any money. Winning.
Those pumpkins have yet to be touched.. I’m thinking they need a lovely touch of paint & maybe something else, What do you think? I am loving the natural orange pop of color on the porch for now though…
What do you guys think of my simple DIY fall porch? Have you decorated for fall or halloween yet? I am not much of a halloween decorator.. but I love seeing all of the spooky halloween decor around the blog-0-sphere. If you blogged about your fall porches I would love for your to link them up in the comments or share them {here} on the facebook page. I hope you all had a great weekend & are enjoying this fall season as much as I am.

I’m loving the planters and the wreath. The planters are just genius though!!
Thank you so much Kelsey! Sometimes the ideas that come to my head don’t work out.. and I was thinking they would look cheap, but I think they came out pretty good!
LOVE!
Thank you Aracely!!
Your wreath looks great!! Love the stencil-letters!
Thank you Abi! I do love those letters & need to get more
Lovely, Liz! Spray painting sand pails is brilliant – perfect shape and size already. I bought a bunch of Michaels metal letters when they were being cleared out and love seeing all the fun ways that people are using them. Your wreath looks fantastic against your gorgeous door!
Thank you so much Claire for the sweet comment.. you made my whole night! I would love to see what others were doing with those letters.. they were so cheap that I couldn’t pass them up! Thanks again for your kind words & for stopping by the blog!
Very nice! Love it! I always have sand buckets so I can’t wait to try the paint! PS — I also just tried the Anne Sloan chalk paint for the first time. It was a light purple for some tables in my daughters play room. I am taking a class at the end of the month on how to “officially” use the product and can’t wait! Love seeing all of your beautiful transformations! Michele M

Simple but beautiful!
Thank you! I like that
I love those planters! My kids have accumulated way too many of those buckets in their short little lives…I may have to hold on to them now! What a great porch

Thank you so much!! A great use for all of those buckets laying around
& if they have that many, I’m sure they won’t miss a few of them
Your porch looks great. The decorations compliment the colors on your home and the pumpkin give a touch of color. I wouldn’t change them. I am working on my fall look. I dried asparagus fronds that have orange berries on them. The plan is to make a wreath or swag.
Thanks for the tip on painting the buckets. I have black buckets from the dollar store that I converted into planters, but they don’t match my more expensive pots.
I love the sound of dried asparagus! That sounds beautiful.. I may have to to do that.. It would make a beautiful wreath! I would love for you to share it on the facebook page when you are done! {http://www.facebook.com/lizmarieblog} Thank you so much for your sweet comment! xx
