It’s funny. when I see these bulky geometric looking tables, I can never get over how odd they look, & I can never see the potential right away. But, every time I make over one of these hexagonal tables, I am in love with how they turn out & how much charm they have. You can see other tables like this I made over {here} & {here}. Mkay. I deleted the before picture. Yes, that has happened to me before. I don’t know why I keep doing it, but here is what the table looked like… kind of.
& after this table is looking all kinds of fly with some new paint { ASCP Duck Egg}, a little distressing {with a sanding sponge}, & some dark wax {Annie Sloan}….
If you are a long time follower of my blog, than you get my Duck Egg obsession. I mean some pieces just need some Duck Egg to make them beautiful again, & this table was one of them. What do you guys think of this table?? Do you paint with Annie Sloan’s Duck Egg blue? I would love to see your Duck Egg pieces.. share your comments & thoughts below & link up your duck egg blue pieces to show them off. ps. This piece is for sale on the Facebook page {here} if you were interested
You guys are the best!!

I agree these tables look so strange before…..dare I say hideous??? But it does look great afterwards……It makes me want to paint one up too!
Yes you can say that for sure! I ask myself.. is it worth it? And I always love them when they are done.. you should really try painting one… it’s a great feeling when you are done.. they look awesome
I think they were always meant to be fun colors.
I remember those tables in all my aunts’ homes when I was a kid in the 80s. Paint can transform anything…
haha you have to love these tables
& the memories they hold! & yes.. I love the power of paint!
I was googling USMC ball pictures and followed my way here. Your site is amazing. I love that table, it looks so unique! Those tables are ugly to start with but you made such a difference. Btw, I read that you were in NC are you still there? Just wondering if you knew any good photographers in the area.

Thank you so much Wendy.. I think I will continue making over these chunky little beasts
Thanks for the sweet comment..
Looks great! Did you paint another color under the duck egg to show through when you distressed or is that the dark wax? Thanks for all the inspiration!!
Hey Jessica! There is no color under the Duck Egg Blue.. It’s simply painted the duck egg, distressed a little & then I waxed the entire piece with dark wax. I hope this helps!
Thanks!
You did a fab job (as always!)…I just bought this hexagonal table similar to this one..no doors, just 3 pillars in the middle…it’s beat up (badly) and I just couldn’t see how I can pretty it up, but it cost me $2 so I just couldn’t walk away from it, you know?! Thanks for the inspiration, I may just have to get myself some ASCP and get to work!
That is a beautiful piece! Love the blue. Megan
Thank you so much Megan!
First I saw your paint/waxing tutorial and now I see this. Ok yes, I need to get on this! I’m really excited to start trying out new paints and techniques.
Yay! I’m so glad you saw my little video
.. I can’t wait to see what you paint.. Let me know what you try and if you like it.. I would love to hear!
Hi LizMarie! My name is ColetteMarie. I LOVE how you transformed this table. Duck Egg Blue is also my favorite ASCP. I do have a question, though. My mom has 2 of these exact tables that she wants to get rid of. I have looked at them thinking there was no way I could make them look pretty. Boy, was I wrong!! You have done a fantastic job! Now, I want to paint my mom’s & surprise her with them. I noticed the table top, before you transformed it, had grooves around the top, mirroring the table top shape. My mom’s has those same grooves, too. I noticed, though, when it was finished your table no longer had the grooves. It was a smooth top. I like that smooth top better. Also, on one of my mom’s 2 tables, there is a little bubbling of the surface along the edge of the groove on one side. Is that top a laminate or a veneer and did you remove it & sand the top smooth? If you did, how did you do that?
Thanks so much for your help! Now, I am really excited to transform my mom’s tables, too.

BEAUTIFUL! I keep going back and forth on ASCP. I keep talking myself out of buying it. After seeing this I MUST get it!
Yes!!! At least try it.. I think you will be convinced it’s worth the price.. & a little goes a very long way!! Let me know on the blog or facebook page when you try it… I would love to hear your thoughts!!
I have an obsession with duck egg blue too. You did a great job as always. Thanks for sharing at DIYbyDesign.
Absolutely LOVE what you’ve done to this piece, and ASCP in Duck Egg is also MY favourite colour, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!
Can I ask a question please?
Where you’ve distressed your piece it looks as if you did an undercoat in red, is that right, or is it just the picture showing the wood as looking red?
Thanks for sharing this gorgeous project.

So funny, I inherited an octagon table after the death of a 91 year old neighbor, the family hated it, mine is a liquor cabinet with a removable 1″ solid slate top, in black. When everyone saw ugly, I saw turquoise, that would look great with my celery slip covered furniture,
I have this same table awaiting a transformation!!
