Decorating with Books

One of my favorite items to decorate with is antique books. I love the worn colors, the textures, the tattered corners & the yellowing pages. They are great for creating vignettes, adding levels to your decor, & adding that perfect eclectic touch to any space. I usually find my antique books at local antique stores & flea markets, but I have a great tips for you if you are having a hard time finding some….

Have you seen books like these hardcover books with the paper cover {That’s called a dust jacket, did you know that? I didn’t either until I googled it ;) } Anyways, if you look under those dust jackets you will most likely find some lovely hardcover books that you can use in your decor…

They may not be as antiqued, but the colors & textures are just as amazing & you can find these books for very cheap { I got all of these for FREE!}

I am constantly mixing up our TV console in our living room & right now I chose to display some of my lovely books along with my DIY distressed drawers {here}.

I’m forever throwing books on our coffee table to display a frame or a candle. I love the look of books on a coffee table, I feel like they belong there.

O, and this is a sneak peek of our master bedroom re-do! Here are some books in our master bedroom. I instagramed this picture {here} here earlier today as a little tease. Room reveal coming soon!

Do you share an antique book obsession with me? I can’t be the only one who enjoys looking at these lovely vintage books. Happy Thanksgiving Eve to you all, I hope you all enjoy your Thanksgiving wherever you may be or whoever you are with. Mr. LMB & I will be  spending Thanksgiving here in North Carolina with some amazing friends. I am so thankful that when we can’t be home in Michigan with our families for the holidays, we have amazing friends here who we consider family. I am also thankful that my husband is not deployed this Thanksgiving! & one more thing.. I am thankful for all of you.. Thank you for following all of my DIY adventures here on the blog & for being my bloggy friends who share your love for design, DIY, & furniture re-do with me daily.. I am thankful.

  3. I’m so glad for you to have your husband with you for holiday. It’s so nice to be with good friends if you can’t be with family.
    When we lived in MT we made some very good friends whom we spent holidays with. 3 of our kids were still in San Diego and 1 with family had moved here to CO. Eventually they all left San Diego but two are back there again. Must have given my kids some of my gypsy genes, give me five minutes I’m ready to go. I’d move today if hubs would but he says no more moving we’re too old. Not me even at 72.
    Anyway, hope you’re enjoying a wonderful Thanksgiving.

    • That is so awesome that you had great friends to spend the holiday with..I love how you put that, “gypsy genes” My mom says that she might have made me a little too independent haha, but now when we see each other it’s even more special :) I hope you had a great Holiday!!! xx Liz Marie

  4. Such a great idea! I would never have though of taking off the dust jackets. I think there is a load of books in our attic that I could do this with. You are so right too, books really do add character to a home when they are used to decorate.

    • I’m glad you liked my idea! Have fun digging those books out! I had such a fun time ripping the covers off haha.. It was like unwrapping christmas gifts :) Hope you like your books out!! xx Liz Marie

  5. Great ideas… I always try to add books to end tables and places like that but often feel like it looks strange and leave them on the bookcase in their nice little rows. I needed this inspiration to just do it!

  6. Great idea! Now I am feeling the urge to go rip off the dust jackets from all of my books :)

    I am great book lover just one suggestion ck and make sure book is not rare like first addition or singed having the book “jacket” makes it more valuable. FYI
