Decorating With Color: Turquoise

PicMonkey Collage

Sometimes color can be scary, & sometimes we need some inspiration for
using color in our own homes. That is why I wanted to start this new series
on the blog all about using color in our homes & ways we can bring color into
our spaces from accessories to paint, from affordable to more expensive.
The first color up is turquoise. The color turquoise is blue with yellow in it
giving it a blue green tone. It can be light or dark, more green or more yellow.
It gives off peace, calm and tranquility of blue and the balance and
growth of green with the uplifting energy of yellow. That being said,
It’s pretty much the perfect color…

This ottoman is seriously the perfect pop of color in this neutral living
room. It adds an element of fun & quickly becomes a focal point of the room!

You could skip the tufted ottoman and go with a patterned turquoise ottoman
like this one. This ottoman could also be made from an old coffee table
as well! An easy DIY project to bring turquoise into your home.

Adding drapes with pops of turquoise is the perfect way to frame your windows
& add a nice contrast to white walls. These drapes pair perfectly with the

turquoise backsplash behind the stove.

This very soft turquoise island is dreamy & is a less bold way of adding
turquoise to your home. & all you would need is a can of paint to
transform your island from average to stunning!

Not wanting to paint the entire island? You could paint just your bar stools

What are your thoughts on turquoise? Do you use turquoise in your home?
Are you planning on bring turquoise into your home? I would love to
hear your thoughts and opinions on turquoise….

  1. I’m drooling!

  2. I love turquoise. All of the spaces you featured are magnificent. I especially love the turquoise appliances and the Pured cabinet.

  3. I absolutely love turquoise in any shade! All of the rooms you featured were fun + inspirational! What type of paint would you recommend using on dressers/furniture that wont chip or peel? Is it necessary to sand the furniture prior?

    • Hi Athena.. I would use a satin or flat. As far as sanding it differs from piece to piece, but not knowing what you are working on I would say that you should at least lightly sand and prime before you paint.. Hope that helps!! & thank you for your sweet comment!

      • Thanks for your response! I am considering creating a fun look with my coffee table, which is made of real wood. I have never really sanded/primed any furniture in the past but I’m willing to give it a try! I can definitely see how that would ensure that the color hold up. Do you have any suggestions for creative designs on furniture made of wood, such as chevron patterns? Have you done any tutorials on things like that? :)

        P.S. I love your blog!

  27. hi i want to ask your opinion for the best wall color that goes with (turquoise&brown) sofa plz advise

  28. I just came across your site while “shopping” for a dark turquoise paint color to use as an accent wall in my living room and kitchen area. My problem seems to be that I decided on the accent before choosing the main wall color. I don’t like gray so that’s out. Something neutral without being boring…coordinating but nothing “pastel”. I love color but have a smaller house and don’t want things getting overwhelming. I want a timeless color combo. Suggestions?

  29. WOW! nice blog.
