Mountain Smoke End Tables

Mount smoke end tables - A makeover & beautiful living room! lizmarieblog.com

A couple of weeks ago I asked on my Instagram & Facebook what color I should paint these lovely wood end tables. Some of you said white, very few said taupe, & the majority of you said to use the gray which was mountain smoke by Valspar. My instincts said to go white & play it safe, but I’m so happy that I didn’t play it safe & went with something other than white.

This look was achieved by using a couple of coats of the Valspar mountain smoke in satin. After the paint was dry I used a sanding blog to create a slight distressed look on both end tables really focusing in on the corners & edges. After I was done distressing the end tables I sealed it with annie sloan’s dark wax. The wax really made the color a bit deeper & brought out the distressing a little more. All in all, I love how they came out!

You might be wondering who’s lovely house this is that I took the photos of the end tables in. Well, I would like to introduce you to my dear friend Sidney. Do you ever meet someone organically, in our case walking through Target, who you just click with & talking is so easy. Right away I knew Sidney was put into my life for a reason. She walks so closely with the Lord & is a beautiful example of a wife, mom, & working woman. Up until this past year Sidney was a realtor, but now she runs a very successful business with Rodan & Fields {The eye cream is a miracle worker… trust me!} & she just started her own blog {here}. She has encouraged me to be a better person & to not settle with just a good relationship with God, but to bring that relationship to a higher level, to be a better wife, a better friend, & a better mom to my future children here on earth. On top of all this she has a beautiful cozy home that is so welcoming complete with a sunny yellow front door. We were meant to be friends wouldn’t you say?  I was painting these end tables for our new rental, but as I was painting them all I could think about was how pretty they would be in Sidney’s home, so since we are not quite in our rental yet I photographed them in her lovely living room & man o man I feel like they fit right in!

  1. That’s a great transformation and I love the color you chose.

  2. I love the end tables! WOW. The color is super. They look great in that room, so warm and inviting.
They will look great in your new rental.
    Great job, as always.

Perfect in Every Way! Thank-You for Sharing :)

  4. love how they turned out!

  5. the tables look awesome! just curious…how do you decide which type of pain to use…ie chalk paint, valspar…and i didn’t know you could still use wax over regular paint! :)

    • Seriously there is no equation for me.. just what I’m feeling that day. This particular day I had an urge to paint & had a sample of this paint so I went to town :) & yes I wax over regular paint quite frequently & it turns out amazing! Hope this helps :)

  6. What a beautiful shade!

  7. These end tables really came out beautiful. I too used a lighter shade of Gray for my French China Hutch. Come check it out! I think you will love it!

  8. What style name are the Rooms To Go sofas? I was thinking you got them at Ikea.

  9. Love the grey! You do not see many grey pieces of furniture, that is something that needs to change!
Did you sand your tables before you painted them with the Valspar, or did the paint stick to the original surface? I am a super fan of Valspar, I just haven’t used it on much finished furniture, my pieces I am painting are usually raw.
    Thanks!

    • I would also love to know the answer! I work in a thrift store and we happen to have the EXACT same “before” end table. Unfortunately only one of them though! I’d love to take it home and see if I could spruce it up. But I’m such a newbie! I don’t know when it’s best to sand first, or what to do!

  10. I love a great furniture makeover and these do not disappoint! Gorgeous transformation! They are stunning now, and look amazing with your friend’s white sofas! XO

  11. Her home is lovely! Do you happen to know the name of the paint color on the walls in this room? I’m having the hardest time coming up with a good cream to use in my bathroom and laundry room. There’s no natural lighting and I’m worried about it coming out too yellow or too tan. I would love any advice! :)

  12. Hi, Lizmarie, i wanted to thank you for sharing you knowledge as well as your blessing in finding your new friend Sidney!
