The Heart Of Our Home

LizJoseLifestyle-LizJoseLifestyle-0038
The kitchen is a huge staple in every household. It is the first “punch-in” for the day. We cannot start the day without walking into the kitchen and turning on the stovetop to brew the coffee and make breakfast. It’s the family launch pad for Mr. LMB and myself, and even Bear and Bella, to get together before heading out to take on the day.

The day goes on, good or bad, and like most, we plan our evening feast, and if you do not know, we love to eat. On weeknights, as soon as we get back from work and daily chores, dinner is in the works. Chicken goes into the oven, the veggies and the much-needed “cooking snack,” a.k.a the chefs’ appetizer come out of the fridge.LizJoseLifestyle-LizJoseLifestyle-0009

As a family of two, table eaters that is (sorry pups), we sometimes eat at the dinner table; most of the time we enjoy the family meal right in the kitchen at the bar.  We consider ourselves efficient people, why take the food out of our lovely kitchen, when you have perfectly good kitchen bar with stools. We enjoy this time to officially unwind and talk about the day and what we have coming up, our GE Appliances oven makes it a quick clean up after dinner.LizJoseLifestyle-LizJoseLifestyle-0020

This is both of our favorite time of the day. As both of us are bloggers, this is the calm before the storm, when we get into our heavy blogging time, so we truly cherish dinner. Thanks to our amazing GE Appliances, we do not have to worry about anything but conversation and relaxation. We throw all of our dirty dishes in the dishwasher, and all of the leftovers fit nicely in the fridge. We whip out the laptops and chip away at the next blog post. The kitchen is really the headquarters for our family affairs and blog.LizJoseLifestyle-LizJoseLifestyle-0011

  1. I make the weekdays special by cooking with my children and eating as a family.

  2. Kristin Livings says:

We make our weekends special by much needed family and quality time together. My husband is a busy man. Navy Corpan with a lot on his plate. He is currently playing on two softball leagues. I have a soon to be one year year old daughter and can’t always make it to his games. So a lot of times during the week we don’t have a lot of time together in the evenings. Weekends we try to spend as much time together as possible. Making our dinners together is one of favorite things to do. Being my husband is from an Italian background the kitchen is his favorite spot well, second to his mancave. I joke! Anytime we can spend outdoors with family and some burgers on the grill, now that’s a great time for us. After a long day of play and all the kiddos are our to bed we will snuggle up to watch a movie together! Now that’s our real quality time :)

  3. The kitchen in our house is the hub, very busy place where everyone comes and goes all day. We eat dinner at the table and at the counter… We are all together in one room but not always at the same table. #teenagers
    Thanks Liz
    Susan

  4. I try to be as flexible as possible (which is tough with an 18 month old and a WAH job). But doing this allows for late afternoon spur-of-the-moment park picnics, family dining al fresco, and tickle fests. Lots of laughter and memories–the goal of our weekdays!

  5. Chanda says:

When I am home, I probably spend 75% of my day in the kitchen. It is the heart of our home. Something you said really struck me. When you said that your kitchen “wasn’t exactly what I wanted, we have made so many fun memories in our kitchen & so many discussions have happened here, laughs shared, & be decisions made in this space”, I feel the same way! We live in a new construction house, but sometimes I get irritated that we didn’t choose another house or floor plan because of the little annoyances my kitchen offers. In the end though, I just love how our family of four has already made so many memories in there. :)

Oh, and we usually eat at our small eat-in-kitchen table rather than in the big formal dining room.

  6. You two just bless my heart…so sweet! :-) My hubby and I have raised 4 kids (ages 17-27 now) and we still gather together in some combination or another for dinner every night. I cook, bake homemade bread and set our table with vintage china. A little home baked sweet for dessert and everyone is happy and stays connected. God is good!

  7. Ellen Casper says:

Our weekdays are special because it always includes a family dinner where we talk about our day and it’s activities.

  8. Ellen Casper says:
  9. We have a large family that always has some place to run so my husband and I came up with Dessert with Daddy right before bed so we can all catch up with each other at the dinner table.

  10. Rebecca says:

I travel for work many weeks so when I’m home I love to catch some tv on the dvr with the boyfriend. Many people would think this is impersonal but its something we both enjoy and having to wait to watch our shows together builds up such excitement! And neither of us are food people so dinner is more of a have-to for us :).

  11. Kristi D says:

We make our weeknights special by always eating a meal together, and on some nights, we’ll take a special trip…to buy a tree…to take a drive…or like tonight, head to the Disney store, b/c two little sweeties finally earned their behavior chart prizes (one special toy of their choice from that store, aka Preschooler Heaven. haha) Best wishes to you as you move! We just did this in August and I pray you enjoy making memories in your new space! xo

  12. what great pictures.

i think coming home and cooking every day makes weeknights special! not for me, so much as the boyfriend. he’s home from work today b/c of the flooding, and i told him dinner’s on him!

  13. Kim Dykman says:

Wow – nice kitchen and its great how you two work together in the “space”. Both me and my husband like to be in the kitchen alone because we always seem to be in each other’s way. Maybe we need a better design so we can cook together. Being empty nesters we don’t cook and eat at the table like we used to. Its something I truly miss ! Kim

  14. In a busy run around world with a husband and two kids I still try to sit down with everyone at the dining room table for dinner at least a few nights a week. Sometimes Dad can’t be home on time but the kids and I eat together. I think it is important to have that time to talk about the day and enjoy each others company. I am working on a minor kitchen reno right now and look forward to cooking many more meals for my family. Thanks for the great giveaway. I need a new stove for my kitchen and it would really help. Also good luck with the move!

  15. To make our weeknights special, I cook a gourmet tasting meal and we get a movie. With all the channels we have on TV, it is amazing how we don’t like much of any of it!

  16. It may sound simple but the most important thing we do together as a family is sit down together for dinner. We share stories about our day and usually ask the kids what the best part of their day was and what was something that could have gone better. Because of this we share in one another triumphs, their struggles, are able to offer advice or words of encouragement. It’s a time to laugh with one another and reconnect.

  17. I tweeted about the post and the giveaway here: https://twitter.com/MommaUrsenbach/status/461878384838979584

  18. Judith M. says:

On the weekends we take minutes, sit down as a family, and decide on the weeks menu. The kids each get to pick a week night meal. The only rules are it cannot be fast food, it must include at least one vegetable, has to be something that can be cooked within 30 minutes and most importantly they have to help in the preparation.

  19. My fiance and I make our weeknights special with home-cooked meals and cuddling on the couch. We both have stressful, busy jobs and appreciate our quiet, alone time together.

  20. We are building a new eat-at-the-bar kitchen separate from our dining room. I can’t wait to see it all put together and finally begin enjoying it!

  21. Lauren S. says:

We make weeknights special by having a glass of wine and snuggling with our puppy :)

  23. Sabrina says:

Liz I just love everything about your blog. You and Jose seem so in love and I remember watching your military video on Youtube for the first time and literally sitting at my desk balling my eyes out and then learning of your trials and tribulations along the way, your miscarriage etc. I was so amazed how your love and positivity went the distance for your family. I was recently in a long term relationship and unfortunately the stresses of life, working jobs on two opposite schedules, and living pay check to pay check (if possible) got the best of both of us and eventually tore us apart. It is one of my life’s greatest regrets that we didn’t try harder to have nights like these, they are what is truly important in life. Reading your blog has helped me not loose faith in the path God intended for me. I see you and Jose like I do many other couples and believe in soul mates all over again. Thank you for that.

  24. I make weeknight special with walks around the neighborhood after dinner. I love any opportunity to be outdoors from spring to fall. And it not only burns calories, but it gives me a chance to connect and talk with my significant other without the interruption of cell phones or laptops, etc.

  25. tinatre says:

After a session at the gym lifting weights we come home and make healthy meals that are clean and quick.

  26. Pam Ballard says:

My week nights are special as we have our grandaughter each day after daycare. We spend time right now teaching her to ride her bike without training wheels. I also have a new Yorkie so we spend lots of time playing and laughing with him. What a lovely giveaway. Thanks for the chance.

  27. Pam Ballard says:

  28. Antonia says:

Hi, i make my weekends special by going to a martini bar on fridays to start off my weekend, i also enjoy getting a mani and pedi. In the mornings i will sometimes do a mask which makes me feel amazing and confident about my skin. Listen to a lot of music, watch movies with my boyfriend and our cat (Riley) with a glass of wine. My absolute favorite thing is bonfires with smores and wine but right now in Ohio we dont really have the best weather. It is very unpredictable. #SweepstakesEntry

Since I am a nursing student evenings are very very special. Usually we will eat dinner and talk about our day (minus the gross stories) and after we will snuggle up with the dog and watch a movie or mindless tv. After we both have a busy day, it is really nice to be able to sit and just be quiet!

Usually he is up and out the door before our son wakes up, so when he pulls up the driveway it puts the biggest smile on our sons face. Together we start cooking dinner. Even if his job is to play with our son while I do all the cooking, believe me I don’t mind. :) Then after enjoying dinner we usually try to go for a walk as a family, or play fetch with our dogs in the backyard.
