How To Give Any House Farmhouse Style

How to give any house farmhouse style - Great tips on how to make any home look like a farmhouse! A must pin for a great blog with farmhouse style tips & tricks.

I wanted to come on the blog today to answer a question I get all the time! It’s such a good question & I feel like after making our 80’s tri-level into a cozy little home with farmhouse style I have some great insight & can give some good advice on how you can make any home into the farmhouse style that you love. We happen to have just moved into our dream farmhouse with tons of character that I am so excited to take you guys on the journey with soon, but not everyones dream is to live in an old farmhouse like we do now, but it’s true you can get that farmhouse vibe with these 10 things…

farmhouse sink

Honestly it’s so crazy how much a farmhouse sink adds that instant farm vibe to a kitchen. You can add a farmhouse sink to really any kitchen & it’s a huge start on turning your new build home into looking like a home that has been there years. We LOVE our farmhouse sink & I shared where we bought ours & a full review [here]. I think a farmhouse sink is a great place to start on changing your new home to that vintage farmhouse style you love.

shiplap

One major thing we did to our 80’s tri-level home to add charm was to add shiplap accent walls. It was an easy & affordable way to add lots of detail & character our home was lacking. We weren’t there long enough to do it in every room, but I’m sure if we stayed long enough it would have happened. Here is a full tutorial we did on how we shiplapped an entire room for less than $100 the easy way [here].

Classic tile

This one is a great way to add that “this house has been here for 100 years” element. From subway tile to penny tiles, you can give your kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, & other rooms in your home a classic farmhouse vibe with tile. We chose subway tile in our kitchen with dark grout, but in the next house I might play around with more tile options.

Window trim

This one is huge & often overlooked! I didn’t get amazing photos of the window trim in our home, but we chose to do a thick chunky window, door, & floor board trim throughout our whole home. Old farmhouses always have the best thick trim so to make your new build look old, adding thick trim really adds a HUGE farmhouse element instantly.

Texture & Painted Furniture

Cozy blankets, burlap, wood grain, chippy paint, shabby pottery, linens, greenery, metal buckets, vintage patina, glass, & some painted furniture add so much dimension and character that screams farmhouse. I love adding crackle pottery with plants, chippy painted furniture, grainsack pillows, antique trunks, & so much more to every room. All of the texture & the painted furniture takes it from a plain white room to a cozy farmhouse. All of the textures from smooth glass to rough chippy paint gives the room a new perspective of an old farmhouse.

Slipcovered furniture

I ADORE the slipcovered furniture look & in our tri-level home I think it was a huge factor on making it look like a farmhouse. Why you ask? I think the slipcovered furniture look takes a modern piece of furniture and adds an antique vibe which in turn pairs really well with the farmhouse look. & slipcovered furniture is just amazing in my opinion. You can read my review on our slipcovered sofas & see where we got them [here]. Slipcovered sofas make a great blank slate for more cozy texture with pillows & throws as well which caters well to the last point.

Antiques & Vintage

In every room of our home I would say 80% of the furniture is antique or vintage. I like mixing old with new to create a lovely farmhouse inspired space. Adding antique elements with new transports any room to an antique farmhouse. You can also go the “faux antique” route if you are having trouble finding antiques and vintage. Stores like Painted Fox sell reproductions that are very convincing & really add the farmhouse vibe like scales, clocks, signs, lighting, & more.

Farm elements

Basically decorating with anything you would find on a farm. We have added farm elements to our 80’s home such as barn doors, farmhouse fabrics like grainsack, tobacco baskets, chicken nesters, farmhouse signs, barn wood & more. These elements are things that you would have found on an old farm & by adding them to our house it really gives a lovely farmhouse tribute in any home. You can find farmhouse elements like these at vintage boutiques, barn sales, & more. You can also find new reproductions of vintage farm elements at places like Painted Fox & more.

natural wood

wood furniture, wood countertops, & in our case, lots of wood flooring. Natural wood really brings that old time feel along with lots of warmth to any space. In our home we have lots of wood flooring in every room, but you can also bring in natural wood kitchen cabinets, wood dressers, wood trim, & so much more.

botanicals

Ok. we can’t forget about botanicals. Adding natural elements to your spaces, especially real nature brings the outdoors in & adds the fresh farm harvest vibe. I like a mixture of faux greenery & real greenery. I blogged where I find my favorite faux greenery [here].

Farmhouse Bedroom Makeover

This is an exciting week here on the blog!! While we are moving to our new house, I will be doing final before & afters of all the rooms in our home as we are now moving into our new, well very old, farmhouse that you can read more about [here] in my announcement post last week. During our move I am taking photos of each room as it looks right before we pack it up & sharing the final look here on the blog. We lived in this house for a year & a half & did  TON of work on it to update it from the 80’s tri-level it was to a modern day farmhouse style home. If you have been following my updates on Instagram [here] or Facebook [here] than you know it’s been a bitter sweet journey leaving our current home to live in our dream home, but you guys have been so amazing with all your encouraging & helpful words. Just one more reason I love sharing this journey with you guys. Today is the final tour of our home before we are fully moved in to the new place! Can you believe that?! It seems a little final for me, but I’m ready for new adventures. It’s all about our master bedroom today. Funny thing is, like most of the other rooms I gave tours of this past week, this room wasn’t all the way done in my opinion, but we did love this room & this is how it looked right before I boxed it up…

This room is super simple & calming & that’s why I love it. Our bed is from Arhuas & it makes a great focal point in the space. The rug [here] & throw blanket [here] is from Target. The nightstands, shutter, & shelf are all antique finds. The light fixture is from Painted Fox & the lamps are from Pottery Barn [here]. the mirrors, pillows, & candles are from Marshals. The bedding is from Anthropologie [here] & the faux greenery is from Ikea. The “we still do” sign was made by my friend Holly from Hollyhocks & Hydrangeas & is probably my favorite piece in the whole room. I love her work! This room was a cozy little getaway & really did it’s job while we lived here. Sad to say goodbye to it, but at least we have the photos & the new place to decorate!

Just one more reason I love sharing this journey with you guys. Today I am sharing the dining room. It’s a small room off the kitchen & over the past year & a half I have enjoyed doing so many looks in this room & documenting them on here for you guys. Here is how the room looked today before I packed it all up, & of course some photos of when we first moved in as well…

I mean. Is it even the same room? The before photo seems so long ago, but it’s so fun to see how far we have come! Some things we did to this room to update it: Added a partial shiplap wall to one of the walls for more detail, got a new slider door, added new trim around the window, we went with luxury vinyl wood floor, & of course added tons of new furniture & decor. Most of the pieces in the room like the dining room table, pie safe, centerpiece, & more were junkin’ finds of mine that I cleaned up and gave a new life to. That light fixture? I actually found in the trash. I hope that this room proves it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to be lovely. We painted the walls & trim Benjamin Moore Dove white for a clean slate & added lots of cozy textures, greenery, & rustic elements to really bring in that farmhouse vibe.

Downstairs Living Room Makeover – Before & After

See the complete makeover of this farmhouse style cozy living room - A great pin for farmhouse inspiration!
The day has come! Honestly I should have done this sooner, but I have a big case of the “It’s not finished yet” blues. I think everyone gets that about their home. The thought that no room is ever done because there is always something on your to-do list. Well, I knocked myself out of that metality this past weekend & I will be doing a full “before & after tour” of our home in the next few weeks with the before photos I took 3 years ago. I thought it would be fun to post a before & after of each room & today we will start in the downstairs living room. If you remember, our house is a tri-level [really 4 levels with the basement] & this room is the lower level along side the guest bedroom, bathroom, & stairs to the basement. Here is how it looked today…

The major parts of this makeover were replacing the one window in the room with a slider door for more light & backyard access. We also added luxary vinyl planks on the floor & painted all the walls & trim in Behr Dove White. Like in every other room in our home, we added thick farmhouse style trim to the windows & doors to really make the house look like it has character. We also took down the drop tile ceiling & replaced it with tongue and groove planks. The decor was jus the cherry on top of the room. I used a World Market rug [here] & placed our Ikea Ektorp sectional at the back of the room. We used our chairs from Marshalls on each side of the slider door & our DIY coffee table [here] at the center of the room. Above the couch we hung our vintage find chalkboard stacked with eclectic frames & our DIY clock [here] on the other side. The trunk end tables & the vintage end table center piece can be found [here] & [here].  A few other things on the wall are some corbel lights from Painted Fox & a tobacco basket with art inside from Deann Art. On the tables are some found corbels, olive buckets, & other found items. The topiaries & greenery are also from Ikea. You can see where the grainsack pillows are from [here]. On the opposite side of the room are my found green books inside my found chicken nesting boxes. Our TV is covered by our DIY barn doors [here] & on each side is some magnolia wreaths from Decor Steals. The gallery wall on the stairs can be found [here] with all of the details.

One Horn White Nightstand Makeover

You guys know by now that you can’t trust me locked in a room with a can of paint right? Well, a few weeks ago I got my shipment of Magnolia Home paint & I’ve been having a little fun with it. One of my first projects? Giving our nightstands in our master bedroom a makeover! I got these antique dressers years ago in North Carolina & they have been used every since that day as our nightstands. I originally painted them a dark gray called urbane bronze that I loved, but I wanted to give them a little refresh & now was the best time to give them a whole new look. Here is how the nightstands looked today…

Many of you probably know that Joanna Gaines came out with two formulas of paint: Furniture/cabinet paint & interior paint. I actually chose to paint the nightstands in one of the interior paint colors because I wanted to paint them in the color one horn white & the furniture paint only comes in two colors. I didn’t really prep the nightstands too much besides cleaning them & I got right to painting. I used about two layers of the color to cover the dark gray up. When the paint was dry I sealed it with a matte polyurethane & voila “new” nightstands in our master bedroom.

& after some paint & hardware…

I picked up some new knobs at Hobby Lobby to replace the original ones. I’m all about using original hardware on pieces, but this one needed some new ones. I’m really happy with the hardware & the large size of them. I feel like these knobs were a little neglected in the Hobby Lobby hardware aisle because all of the hardware in the aisle was picked over except for these. Crazy how some new hardware can completely change a piece right?

What do you guys think of this one horn white nightstand refresh? I am kind of obsessed with how light & bright the nightstands are now & the new look they give our room. I love the power of paint & how it easily transforms a space. Something that anyone can do to their rooms to make a dramatic change. So far I am loving the Magnolia paint line & the color choices. More projects with the paint to come! Let me know what you think in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today!! xx

Cozy Farmhouse Kitchen Decor

You guys know that I switch up our kitchen decor quite often. I get tired of things or the seasons changes, or just because it’s Tuesday & I got an extra shot in my latte. You just never know when I’m going to switch our kitchen decor up. Well, I got my Gable Lane Crate in the mail the other day & many of you know I’ve been getting this home decor subscription box for a while now & I’m a little obsessed. It gives me another excuse to change up my home decor when I get a new box on my doorstep & it’s like Christmas every time it arrives & I get to open it up. I recently got their kitchen box & here is what I did with a some of the items that came in the crate…

I love that they send items that I would never think to get. I mean mini wooden spoons, those mini cutting boards, & the farmhouse animal cups? Hello cuteness!! & I know I know. Before someone says it. Right now I have an eclectic mix of stuff on our kitchen counters…. it’s cozy & it’s how I like it right now. Too cluttered for some & perfect for others… isn’t that how everything goes? Actually on that note, on the other side of the kitchen that is not pictured in this post, I emptied those counters that had stuff on them so one side is empty & one is more cozy. Again, always changing.

This vintage poster inspired print that I decided to hang in our magnolia wreath & the wooden egg holder even came with this crate. It was pretty much everything my dreams are made of. So in this box there was soap from 1818 farms, a vintage science print, mini wooden spoons, mini creamer cups, farmhouse style cups, an egg holder, a soap dish, a mini chalkboard, & some greenery. Seriously what more could you ask for? A complete kitchen refresh. I am so dumb and I forgot to take a photo with the soap & soap dish, but I will share it later. You can check their website [here] to see the next crates they are offering & other items they have. The boxes are exclusive so this one is already done, but every month the new crates are just as amazing & unique.

I’m pretty obsessed with these crates because it’s such a nice surprise & seriously it can really turn your frown upside down when you get happy mail like this am I right? & quite honestly everything they send blends seamlessly into our farmhouse kitchen decor so it’s quite perfect. What do you think of our little kitchen refresh? Have you received a Gable Lane Crate yet? What did you think of it? DIY Farmhouse Bench

Super simple DIY farmhouse bench - a great pin to make a diy farmhouse bench great for a living room, porch, dining room, end of a bed, & so much more!
I have really been pushing to “finish” our upstairs living room. It’s been since January that we got our new sofas [here] & that I started on giving it a mini little makeover. At this point I just want it to feel complete. I may switch things up later, but I am sick of looking at an incomplete room. So, this past weekend Jose & I did a few projects to finish the space off. One of those projects was a DIY bench. At the entrance of the living room there was a big empty space that opens up to our “entryway” which really just the front door, but I wanted a visual cut-off point. I ultimately had in mind two upholstered chairs next to each other, but after months of not finding exactly what I want, I thought a bench was the next best thing. I did find a bench that I loved, but something happened to it a few weeks ago, that I just had to share here.

Well, I’m not going to name names or even hint at who this is because I know he was super embarrassed. But I just had to share… We had a visitor at our home who happened to be quite a built man. He was no 100 pound guy, but not huge by any means. I had picked up a bench at Home Goods a week prior to his visit & the bench had sat were this one is today. As he was talking to us he took quite a hard seat on the bench & it completely collapsed beneath him. He landed on the floor on his back & all anyone could do, including him, was laugh. It was hilarious. Even though it was $100 down the drain for my wallet, it was worth the laugh & maybe worth the story? Who knows. But after that little incident I was out a bench & that’s where Jose entered when he made me this one…

Super simple DIY farmhouse bench - a great pin to make a diy farmhouse bench great for a living room, porch, dining room, end of a bed, & so much more!

Seriously, I will say it again. I love when I tell Jose I have a vision & he brings it to life. This bench was made by the one & only Mr. LMB & was a better replacement to that Home Goods one may it rest in peace. We built this whole bench around [this cushion] & these old spindles that I had in my collection. See what I mean when I say we needed something to be a partition from the entryway & living room? This bench works perfectly for that. For this bench I really wanted to use my cushion from Pier one that you can buy [here]. I have always loved this cushion & I pretty much want one in every room. Want to know how to make one for yourself? Jose shared on his blog today how you can make one: Craftsmandrive.com [here]

I painted the DIY farmhouse bench with Maison Blanche chalk paint in Ivory. Who knows if the bench will stay here or for how long, but with a color like Ivory it will literally fit anywhere in our house which is nice. So, what do you think of the bench that Jose made? This is another lesson of “If you can’t find it, just make it. Or have someone make it for you”. Good life lessons for a Monday. I hope this post inspired you in some way & helped those of you wanting to make a bench. Be sure to go to Craftsmandrive.com [here] for the full tutorial. Magnolia Home Antique Rose Bookshelf Makeover

Vintage Radio turned bookshelf - A great piece for a nightstand, shelving, & so much more. Makeover done with the new Magnolia paint in Antique Rose the best blush pink paint color.
A couple weekends ago I was at the store working, Saturday’s at our store are my favorite, & Jose was so sad that I was going to be gone for the day. It’s rough being away from your best friend am I right? But you got to do it sometimes. Anyways, Jose was so sweet & said he wanted to go out with his mom to some garage sales. I knew he was probably looking for some tools & of course wanted to hang out with his mom because life gets busy & we need to make time for the people we love. To my surprise when I got home from work Jose had the wagoneer loaded up with some small furniture pieces. My true soul mate. One of the pieces he found was this antique radio book shelfy thingy. That’s the technical term for it. I honestly don’t know what it is, but it’s cute & I was excited to get to painting it. Better yet? I wanted to try out the new Magnolia Home paint line & I had the perfect color in mind…

It was looking a little like this before I painted it…

Here is after one coat of me painting this piece…

Vintage Radio turned bookshelf - A great piece for a nightstand, shelving, & so much more. Makeover done with the new Magnolia paint in Antique Rose the best blush pink paint color.

The fabric stapled in there was a little dusty & the whole piece was begging for a little makeover so I used a tiny sample pot of the Magnolia Home paint in antique rose. So far I’m in love with the paint line & the colors, but I haven’t used them too much so I’ll be back later with a full review. But I do love this soft blush color so much. Here is how the piece is looking now…

To get this look I dry brushed a few layers of the antique rose color over the piece. I wanted a little bit of the wood sticking through so I went lighter on the edges & certain areas. After the paint was dry I sealed it with some Annie Sloan clear wax. In the beginning I thought I would stick some vintage floral paper in the cutout area, but after I was done painting I decided to keep it simple & leave the cutout flower open. I took photos as the sun was setting, but it looks so much better in person.. I wish you could all come and see it for yourselves! I do need something painted in this color in our home…

Seriously such a fun makeover! & this color really inspired me to bring more color into my furniture painting adventures, so stay tuned for that. This piece would be so cute in a little girls room or a powder room for storage. The possibilities are endless. I’m bringing this baby to the Found Cottage because quite frankly I don’t have a place for this blushing bride, but I know it will be so adorable in someone else’s home. Entryway Armoire

If you have been following Liz Marie Blog for a while since we have been in our Michigan house, then you know our tiny entryways has changed many times over the past year. Well, we had an unexpected change a few weeks ago that I forgot to tell you about. It’s a funny story really. So, Jose and I were out junkin’ one day & I discovered an armoire at one of my favorite local stores, R. Lucas Scott. I needed it. It was massive, but I had been looking for an armoire for our master bedroom & this one would be perfect. Did I mention it was big? The husband was beyond thrilled that we had to load it up in the trailer & hinted that I might want to hire someone to get it upstairs to our bedroom. I could tell he wasn’t kidding & I knew I wouldn’t be too much help to him so we hired movers to put it in our bedroom the next day. The movers showed up & right away I knew it wasn’t going to go well. The two guys that showed up looked very unmotivated & not much bigger than me, but I showed them the armoire & showed them where it needed to go & let them do their thing. A few minutes later I heard “Mam, I’m not sure this is going to fit up your stairs.” I knew it. After a little while more of struggling I suggested they just stop & I thanked them for trying & said goodbye. I think they could have tried a little harder, but I just saw a disaster happening & I didn’t want anyone or anything to get hurt. I was then left with a 7ft armoire sitting in my living room & no where to put it. So what did I do? I decided to replace the piece in our entryway & put it there instead. When life hands you lemons…

Entryway armoire - a great way to add storage to an entryway. If the closet is too small or if there isn't a closet an armoire adds amazing storage that you can hide away the mess!

Another funny story? It was already painted a very lovely cream & mossy green, but when I put it in the entryway I just knew that it wasn’t going to work. I painted the entire thing with Miss Mustard Seed milk paint in farmhouse white & I wasn’t totally loving it. Wouldn’t you know that the same day Miss Mustard Seed blogged an identical armoire painted in farmhouse white BUT she painted the inlays with the color grainsack & she was thinking what I was thinking! It needed an extra pop because all white was a little boring. So, since she confirmed my thoughts, that’s what I did. I painted the inlays in Miss mustard seed milk paint in grainsack & it was so much better.

The armoire holds tons of coats, shoes, bags, & some other things because our entryway closet on the opposite wall is so small, this armoire is a lifesaver! I love being able to hide everything away for a super clean look in the tiny space that connects with our living room. I left the inside of the armoire how it was when I got it, & I don’t hate it. The mirror is not my favorite thing ever, but it’s there &  I might make some changes later, but for now it works just fine for us.

That’s our little entryway update & how it looks today. A little irritated I paid movers to bring this piece upstairs & still had to pay even though it wouldn’t work, but poor planning on my part mixed with lack of motivation really wasn’t going to get the job done I guess. I’m thankful it works in this space & that we had another spot for it. What do you think about our entryway armoire? Has this kind of thing every happened to you? DIY Window Kitchen Cabinet

DIY Rustic window cabinet - so easy to build! This cabinet would be great in any room of the house for pretty storage. A great idea to add wrapping paper to the back of the cabinet for a pop of color.
Jose did it again! He made a window cabinet & it’s pretty much one of my favorite gems he has ever made. I couldn’t wait to share it with you guys today here on the blog & on his blog [here] he shared how you can make your very own. A little back story: Jose built a bookshelf for this partition wall in our home that divides the kitchen & the living room a while back & I really liked it, but you know us & change, it’s bound to happen! So recently I found this window in our garage because you all know I’m into cleaning the garage now as sen last week in my DIY beehive end table [here], & I really wanted to make something fun with the window. Enter the DIY window kitchen cabinet…

DIY Rustic window cabinet - so easy to build! This cabinet would be great in any room of the house for pretty storage. A great idea to add wrapping paper to the back of the cabinet for a pop of color.
It’s such a chippy messy cabinet & that’s why I love it so much. The window has layers of paint on it & that’s why I love it so much. The wood used to build the cabinet around the window was new wood so to blend the old window & the new wood together I used Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in the color farmhouse white. I had a little fun with the inside of the cabinet. I bought some Rifle paper co. paper from one of my favorite local boutiques here in Michigan, Rebel Reclaimed, to use on the back of the cabinet. For the shelves I wanted a paint color that was similar to the paper that I bought so I brought the paper to Home Depot & had them match a paint color to the background of the paper. I think they did an amazing job if I do say so myself!

So, to put the wrapping paper on the cabinet I have to admit I didn’t do this perfectly. Wallpaper isn’t my thing let’s say. What I did was coat the back of the paper & apply it to the back of the cabinet & rub out the bubbles with my fingers. That’s all I did. It’s not perfect, but I think the imperfections help it look a little more vintage. I’ll just tell myself that, but really I don’t think it looks that bad!! Head on over to Jose’s blog, Craftsmandrive.com [here], to see how he built it with more photos & details.

I think it turned out super cute & adds great storage to this space. Jose did such a great job building it, I’m so proud of him & the designs he comes up with for furniture. Inside the cabinet I have my dishes & pie sign from World Market, glass containers from Marshalls, crate from Gable Lane Crates, & white pitcher from Ikea among other little things. On top of the cabinet is some cloches from World Market with Ikea plants, a scale from my store [The Found Cottage], & a littl white pitcher. What do you guys think of our large DIY window cabinet? DIY BeeHive End Table

DIY rustic beehive end table - A must pin to make an easy rustic end table out of some antique finds. Great for farmhouse style living rooms!
I must admit something. Our garage is messy. I’m somewhat of a hoarder of junk. It’s all amazing junk if that helps anything. Recently I have been really trying to go through my junkin’ finds & either make something out of them, use them in the house, or say goodbye to them just so our garage can actually be used… you know… for garage things. While on one of my “clearing out” extravaganzas the other day I stumbled upon some antique beehive boxes I had picked up last summer in the middle of nowhere from a really cool lady. I had plans to make something with them, but of course I procrastinated until this week I decided to make a DIY beehive end table for our living room…

Pretty cute huh? It was made all out of vintage beehive parts that I kind of just found and put together. I’m sure at one point out of all the beehive boxes that were lying in the field, this is what it kind of looked like at one point. To make this end table we simply just found the best way to stack the boxes & did just that. We didn’t secure them together, because the top of the beehive is quite heavy so it makes it sturdy. Jose added some wheels from the hardware store on the bottom by screwing them into the wood & that was honestly it. The quickest & easiest little end table.

Like I said before, we found these beehives when we were out junkin, but I’m sure you can find some at your local antique mall, flea market, from a local farmer, or you can make your own. But hopefully next time you see some while you are out & about you now have an idea of what to do with them. What do you think of this beehive end table? Have you ever made anything out of beehives? I would love to hear about it! Let me know in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today & for sharing it with your friends & family, it means a lot! Now back to cleaning out that garage of ours… xx

The Best Grain Sack Pillows

A great source for excellent quality grain sack pillows - a must pin for farmhouse style & cottage style authentic grain sack pillows.
I wanted to answer a question today that I get asked all the time! I actually don’t know why I haven’t done this post sooner, but here it is finally. & actually this post is on a whim & I didn’t even let the small handmade company that I was posting about them today so this is exciting. It all started over a year ago or maybe even longer when I was searching for some grain sack pillows. I stumbled upon this shop on Etsy [here] & I was floored. I could tell by the photos that the pillows were good quality & I was in love with every single pillow. I was sold. It was the first time that I was spending a little more on pillows so I held my breath until they came in the mail that they would be worth it. It took a while for shipping, but honestly it wasn’t that bad considering the pillow covers were coming from Romania. When I opened them I was in shock. I’m not one to notice or be picky about high quality pillows, but the grain sack pillows I ordered from Madreana made me feel like one high class lady with my new pillows. Since then I have ordered a bunch from her & they are all over our home. It’s one of my my FAQ’s I get a lot about where I get my grain sack pillows so I hope this helps some of you who are on the hunt for some like I was last year. Here are some quick photos I took around our house today of some of the grain sack pillows we have..

The long lumbar pillows are the 46.5″ pillows in her shop. I simply put a $9 body pillow from Target in them & I love how large they are. These are my favorite pillows from her shop just because they are so unique. Again, I can’t emphasize the quality. I have other grain sack pillows and they are nothing like these. Some other grain sack pillows from Madreana around our house..

I could go on, but I’ll stop there. I’m obsessed with these pillows so I had to share my source with you guys. I suggest looking on Etsy [here] for other handmade shops for grain sack pillows, but Madreana takes the cake for me for sure. Let her know I sent you & I should probably go tell her that I wrote this post about her & officially introduce myself to her as the crazy girl in Michigan who is obsessed with her & hoards all her pillows. Hi! I hope you guys enjoyed this post & I hope it helps you find some grain sack pillows if you were looking for some. Dry Sink Makeover – DIY Coffee Bar

Dry sink makeover with chalk paint - A simple makeover dresser to coffee bar makeover. A must pin for furniture makeovers & any future DIY coffee bars.
A couple weeks ago I picked up a little dry sink. Yah, I didn’t know exactly what it was either so this is what the dictionary says: “an antique kitchen cabinet, now generally used as an ornament rather than for practical purposes.”. Basically it’s a little dresser with a metal top that used to be used for placing water pitchers on before there was indoor plumbing. This dry sink I picked up had an awesome metal top & I knew I wanted to paint it to make it more “Liz Marie”. Jose loved the piece so much that he wanted to use it as a cabinet in his bathroom, but sadly it was too big for the space so I painted this one to sell at the store. This piece will be a hard one to say goodbye to because of how unique it is & how awesome the functionality is. I may have to find a place quickly before we load it up and haul it off to the store. Wish me luck. So here is the piece that I fell in love with…

The photos are a little dark because the sun was setting when I took the photos so you can’t see the cute little wheels it has, but it’s just pretty darling all around. The best part? The drawers are so deep & it has so much storage in it. & that metal top? I’m just in love. Here is what it looked like before I painted it…

& after I gave it some love…

Dry sink makeover with chalk paint - A simple makeover dresser to coffee bar makeover. A must pin for furniture makeovers & any future DIY coffee bars.
I painted this piece in Maison Blanche sugar cane & I sealed it with clear wax. Super simple. The piece had some natural distressing & damage to it that made the paint look old which I loved. The original hardware was amazing so obviously I kept that on the piece. It’s always a bonus when you find a piece with all original hardware. It’s almost like winning the furniture lottery. I styled the piece with some of my Rae Dunn coffee pieces which made me want to keep it even more. This piece would make a killer coffee bar. Imagine a coffee brewer or french press with your coffee cup collection. The drawers could be filled with tea towels, coffee bags, utensils, & more. It could make the best little coffee bar for any room in your home. But let’s face it, it would make a great piece for any purpose really. Seriously, help me find a place for it.

I do love this little piece & how it turned out. I think the sugar cane color really gave the piece new life & made it lighter and brighter. I just love the power of paint & how it can completely change a piece of furniture. I also love how versatile this piece is. I mean a dry sink to a coffee bar? I’m in! Now I’m thinking I need to make room for a coffee bar somewhere in our house. Maybe in the office? Like everything in our home it’s bound to not look the same for any long period of time. I have slowly made some changes to this gallery wall over the past couple of months so I wanted to share them with you today. I get a lot of people saying that they don’t want to share their house with me or they would never share their house or want anyone to see it, but I hope if my blog shows you anything it’s that our houses are always in progress, always changing, & most of the time always improving. Your home is better designed when done over time & decorated with items with meaning that you love. Here is our updated farmhouse style gallery wall…

A few changes that I made: I added the antique sign that I got at our store, but you can find more signs like this one [here]. Everywhere I looked for this black antique sign they were out. I moved the wooden antique spindles around on the wall [they are hung up with 3m strips by the way] I also added the time clock check in to the top of the stairs which was also a junkin’ find. & last but not least a big change I made was adding greenery to the shelf from one of my new favorite obsessions, Gable Lane Crates [here]. I just discovered them & will be sharing all my goods from them in a later post, but as soon as I opened up the box I had to use these greens because they were so unique & added a good pop to the gallery wall. Of course the new items are mixed in with my House of Belonging sign, my antique shelf, a clock from Ikea, a cow canvas from Target, & some other frames & things from Michaels, HomeGoods, & Parris Chic Boutique.

I’m loving this gallery wall even more now with the changes. It’s been fun switching things around & changing things up when I get new pieces. My biggest advice for when doing gallery walls is use 3M strips when necessary because it’s easy to move things around in the gallery wall when there are no nail holes to fill. Of course I use nails and screws when necessary, but I love 3M strips for the lighter & smaller objects. What do you think of our farmhouse stairway gallery wall updates? Let me know in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram. Thank you SO MUCH for stopping by my little blog today, it means so much! xx
