We have been updating things all over the house this week.
Seriously though, when are we not painting or updating something in our home?
You can see the small changes in the living room that I postedthis week {here}.
This weekend I really wanted to update our barstools & bench in our kitchen.
They were a little dark for the space & I have been really wanting to brighten things
up in our dining/kitchen area. So, with some white paint, new cushions,
and some pillows I freshened up the furniture quite easily!
These barstools were looking a little dark before & needed a fresh coat of
white paint {I used linen by Better Homes & Gardens} & I used my
DIY chalk paint recipe which you can see {here}. I wanted them to
be a little shabby chic with out distressing them so I didn’t worry about
being to precise and neat on the barstools, & I love how they turned out!
The cushions were purchased from Pier 1 from their outdoor cushion
department. They work perfectly for seat cushions for the barstools & give
the stools a whole new look. Also, they are easy to wash!
The place mats were a wedding gift {going on 6 years ago!} & I still love them. The dishes are from
Bed Bath & Beyond. I have an obsession with square white plates. The napkins and the chalkboard
napkin rings are from Target. The rug in the dining room is from RugsUSA.com. The plates on the
wall are all from TJ Maxx except for the bird plate, that is from Pier 1. All the other decor
items are antiques or from local boutiques. The boxwood box on the hutch was a DIY project
that you can see {here}.
This little antique bench sits in our dining room & it’s usually a place
where we sit and take off our shoes, or sit and talk to each other
while we cook. So I wanted to make this spot more comfortable
& a more inviting place to sit…
I painted the bench the same color as the barstools.
Again, with my DIY chalk paint & not trying to be to precise to get a
shabby chic effect. I wanted the age of the piece to really show.
I then placed a long outdoor cushion from Pier 1 on the bench to
give it some comfy cushion & added a few pillows that I made.
Seriously I can not get over how some white paint and cushions can brighten
up a space. I’m really happy with my decision to paint these pieces & I suggest
these little updates to you too! You could go with any paint color, any finish,
& any cushions to completely update the look of your current
barstools and benches that you already have. Think of all the possibilities!
