I have always been fascinated with messing around with clay & making things with it. There’s just one little thing, I’m not very good at it. After making things with clay I have a whole new appreciation for people who can make beautiful things with clay. Lucky for you and me this project doesn’t have to be perfect. In fact I think these DIY clay label knobs look better a little shabby & with some character. At least that’s what I tell myself. Knobs are such a quick and easy way to bring new life to a piece of furniture & to give your piece a new look, so these simple knobs are perfect for a quick makeover & to help you keep your life a little more organized. I will be back with lots more knob ideas, but today I’m showing you these quick clay label knobs that I made for my craft dresser.
1. Start with a ball of polymer clay that you have kneaded and warmed up with your hands. I found my clay at Michael’s, but you can find yours at any craft store or online.
2. Roll out the polymer clay with a rolling pin. Don’t have a rolling pin handy? Use a wine bottle. It works. Roll the clay out until it’s smooth and about 1/2 inch thick. You can play around with this as you see fit.
3. Use a cookie cutter to cut out a circle that is about 1 1/2 inches wide. Don’t have a cookie cutter? Use a small shot glass. It works.
4. Place your knobs in a oven safe glass, or metal pan. I used a pie plate. & bake as the directions on your clay package tells you. I baked my knobs at 275 for 15 minutes.
6. Once your knobs are dry, glue your knob backs to the clay. I used E-6000 glue & it works perfectly for these knobs. I purchased some knob bases {here}. But you can also form your clay around an existing knob and bake. I will also be showing other ways in future posts. At this point you can stamp your clay knobs using any stamps you had. These cutie stamps can be found at michael’s but I found mine on Etsy. You’re done!
I googled that word. I did not know that a wound ball of yarn was called a skein. Just in case you thought I was smarter than I actually am. Just in case. You can see this dresser makeover {here}. Anyways there you have it, some simple clay drawer label knobs. Have you made clay knobs before? How did you do it?
