A couple of weeks ago I asked on my Instagram & Facebook what color I should paint these lovely wood end tables. Some of you said white, very few said taupe, & the majority of you said to use the gray which was mountain smoke by Valspar. My instincts said to go white & play it safe, but I’m so happy that I didn’t play it safe & went with something other than white.
This look was achieved by using a couple of coats of the Valspar mountain smoke in satin. After the paint was dry I used a sanding blog to create a slight distressed look on both end tables really focusing in on the corners & edges. After I was done distressing the end tables I sealed it with annie sloan’s dark wax. The wax really made the color a bit deeper & brought out the distressing a little more. All in all, I love how they came out!
You might be wondering who’s lovely house this is that I took the photos of the end tables in. Well, I would like to introduce you to my dear friend Sidney. Do you ever meet someone organically, in our case walking through Target, who you just click with & talking is so easy. Right away I knew Sidney was put into my life for a reason. She walks so closely with the Lord & is a beautiful example of a wife, mom, & working woman. Up until this past year Sidney was a realtor, but now she runs a very successful business with Rodan & Fields {The eye cream is a miracle worker… trust me!} & she just started her own blog {here}. She has encouraged me to be a better person & to not settle with just a good relationship with God, but to bring that relationship to a higher level, to be a better wife, a better friend, & a better mom to my future children here on earth. On top of all this she has a beautiful cozy home that is so welcoming complete with a sunny yellow front door. We were meant to be friends wouldn’t you say? I was painting these end tables for our new rental, but as I was painting them all I could think about was how pretty they would be in Sidney’s home, so since we are not quite in our rental yet I photographed them in her lovely living room & man o man I feel like they fit right in!
Isn’t her home just lovely, & that is just one corner of it. & what about those mount smoke end tables? I’m a little in love & I can’t wait to show you them when we get them in our new home {you can read more about that here if you missed the latest news}. Let me know what you think of the tables in the comments below, on Facebook, or Instagram & I hope that you all had an amazing Easter weekend! xx

I love them! That is the perfect color…thanks for posting. My dining room table is now going to get a Mountain Smoke makeover soon!
I have been going back and forth on what color to paint my end table and gray was one of the colors. My end table is exactly the same as your. So thank you. Yours came out so nice, hopefully mine will come out as nice. Thank you for ending my dilemma . Simply gorgeous.
Hi! I was drawn to the pics of this wonderful little side table and have an old stand up record player that I’m thinking this would look great on. I’ve never refinished anything before, so this would be a first! What drew me in even further, however, was the story of friendship! I, too am a Realtor. I’m am currently hosting my very first Bible study in my home. Ten of the most lovely Realtors in Baton Rouge come every Friday and we just love our fellowship time together and with the Lord! What’s even more striking about the similarities in your story is that on one Friday we started talking skincare. One of our ladies swears by Rodan and Fields! The topic immediately came up about having a skincare party as soon as the study ends. I’ll let you know how that goes, as well. Who knows, maybe I’ll turn into a Realtor/Rodan and Fields consultant as well!
Needless to say, I’m feeling like there was no mistake (maybe even a little divine intervention!) that I came across this blog today!
Happy New Year!
Hi! I love your room color! What is it?
Hi, where did you find this Valspar color? Mine Lowe’s doesn’t seem to carry it.
Thanks!
Could you please share the wall paint color in this room, and all others as well. I am truly in love with everything you’ve posted. Thank you so much!
Amazing! Its genuinely awesome paragraph, I havbe got much clear idwa regarding from this
post.
Beautiful room Liz! Was curious about your couches. I want to replace 2 couch recliners that I hate, but gave in to the idea for my kids comfort since my husband and I have rocker recliners… Do you like the 2 cushion seats? We have a lot of company (hence two recliner couches) and worry that someone would always be sitting between the cushions. Have you had an issue with that? Otherwise I was thinking I might have to go with Ikea that has the 3 cushion. Would love to hear your thoughts :)!
Was the Valspar mountain smoke paint in satin mixed with the chalk paint base or the traditional satin paint?
That is a nice color! A bit unexpected for side tables, but still pretty neutral. I love the handles too! Were they original or did you find them somewhere?
I was wondering which rug is used in the living room , since there are several that look like this on RUgs USA?? Thanks!
