Hi guys! I wanted to share a super easy DIY project that I did in our historic rental this past weekend. & by easy, I mean it took my five minutes, but it made a pretty big impact in our daybed room. The daybed room is a room right off of our dining room that is quite awkward & really it’s a glorified hallway that we put a daybed in. There is a tiny little window that looks out onto our sunporch in the daybed room that had blinds but no curtain rod. Since we are renting I didn’t want to put holes in the wall to install a curtain rod, but I did want to add a fun window treatment for interest & to cover up the top of those blinds. I came up with a DIY easy window valance created from a table runner.
This room is so tiny & really very neutral so this table runner from Pier one that I picked up on clearance the other day is the perfect pop of color in the space. The window didn’t look bad before, but a little pop of interest never hurt anybody & I’m really into navy lately so this was a great way to add it to this space.
This was the daybed room a few months ago & a few things have changed since then. Have I mentioned we nap here all the time? I’m convinced it’s the best nap spot ever. Back to that valance, or table runner, whichever you prefer.
To hang the window valance on the blinds I used 3M strips which worked really well to adhere the cloth to the plastic piece at the top of the blinds. If you do not have blinds that stick out like ours did, you could use 3m strips on the trim or the wall as well. You will be able to play around with it & customize it to your window.
& can we talk about this pillow from House of Belonging? I’m dying over it! You might think I’m lame, but I’m the girl who is singing to I’m so fancy at the top of my lungs while driving down the road, & let’s be real, while I’m doing anything. The pillow makes me smile every time I walk by it & I’m loving how neutral it is, but it’s still really fun. It fits perfectly in our daybed room.
What do you think of the little DIY window valance? Isn’t the easiest thing ever? I’ve been making a lot of things out of table runners lately, like this lumbar pillow. I love repurposing items especially for home decor. Have you ever made a window valance before? Share your thoughts in the comments below {sorry about the new captcha, but I was getting a lot of spam comments}. Also be sure to find me on Facebook & Instagram. I look forward to hearing from you! xx

So cute & easy! I love it!
SMARTTTTTT. I knew I wanted to do some sort of faux valance or roman shades over our kitchen sink. This would be so easy to adhere to our blinds that stick out just the same way yours do. Now to find the fabric I want!
Very cute!! I too hate sewing and just posted my idea last week for a valance: https://www.magentaandlime.net/2014/08/diy-simple-wooden-valance.html.
Have a great day, Liz!
Love the valance fabric, great idea! I pinned your fancy pillow!
How clever! I love the pattern of the runner.
I love the touch of blue in the room. It really did made a beautiful difference. Good work!
