Once in a while I get my Silhouette out and make a sign & each time I try different ways to make them like with our DIY antique sign {here} & the DIY pineapple sign I painted {here}. I wanted to make a sign for our fall decor for our mantel, but I wanted to make it super quick & simple. Even more simple than usual. So, I came up with a technique on how to make a quick & easy DIY antique fall sign. Be careful, this is so simple that it might just blow your mind.
First I stained the board I wanted to use & than I dry brushed the tan paint color on top of the stain to give it that worn look. To make the sign I used my silhouette machine like I said before & I used it to print out and cut the letters & the apples using black vinyl. When the letter stickers & the apple stickers printed out I placed them on the board how I wanted them arranged. After the stickers were on the board, I took a paint brush with very little of the tan paint color I used on the board & I dry brushed it over the black stickers to give it that distressed look. No, seriously. It’s that easy.
It was so fun decorating our fall mantel in our historic rental this year since we have never had a mantel before & I think our DIY fall sign was the cherry on top.. or the apple. Ok that was bad, but seriously this sign was so easy to make & much different than any other sign I’ve made because those were entirely hand painted. This sign was quick, easy, & fun to make. What do your think of my DIY rustic fall sign? Have you made a sign with this technique before? What’s your favorite way to make signs? I LOVE this. I was waiting for you to post how you did this! So simple! I have some barnwood from my brother’s amazing old barn on his property that is falling down. I’m going to attempt to make some signs out of it.
Simply. Brilliant.
Thanks for sharing this!
