I mean come on. Three valentines day posts from me now? I think this may be my last one for the year. Pretty sure. So, as many of my blog posts start out… I was walking through target & I spotted something cute & I thought, “Hey! I can make something with that.” This something was a wooden heart found in the dollar spot in the front of the store. I didn’t quite know what I was going to do with it, but I knew when the mood struck, or cupid for that matter, I would make something lovely. After only about 20 minutes in my craft room this is my DIY wooden heart valentines day art I made for our home…
It’s a less than perfection heart, but isn’t that like everyones heart? Not perfect, but beautiful none the less. Ok. That was a little too deep for such a simple little blog post. The beauty of these wooden hearts is that there are literally a million ways to decorate them, but here is what I came up with…
I was kind of on a roll when I was creating this, which seems to happen a lot when a creative moment strikes so I didn’t get a lot of “during” photos, but here is the simple process… I painted the wooden heart white {behr marquee in simple white} After the white dried I stenciled a J & an L in Behr gray shimmer { J&L for Jose & Liz cuz I sort of love that handsome husband of mine.} After I got done stenciling I hammered push pins into the wooden heart between the J & L. For this step you can be better than me & actually stencil or draw a heart first, but I just did it without drawing one first & just visualized a heart. After I got all my desired pushpins in, I started wrapping some pink string around the pushpins. I had never done anything like this before so I kind of just winged it & I was pretty happy with how it turned out. Now, I see a lot of mistakes in it because it’s my work, but I think it’s pretty rustic & lovely.
Funny how something so simple can make you so happy. Whenever I look at this little heart in our house it reminds me of the silly little holiday, but more so about Mr. LMB & how our marriage still feels like a honeymoon. It will forever be J loves L & so I will forever be making silly little art like this. What do you think of my DIY valentines day art? I adore this little heart! I may have to make the hour and a half drive to Target to buy these. They would make great wedding gifts too.
Love this idea, especially with the thread heart only being a small part of the piece – simple & gorgeous!
