What?! I’m actually giving a Michigan house update? Yesterday I shared our DIY bathroom cabinet & today I’m sharing a few curtains that we have hung up in the house before. Why not more curtains than these? Because most of our windows are sitting there naked & curtain-less & sad. We did manage to hang some curtains up on the first level of our house & I made some DIY no-sew curtains for our lower level sliding door as well. One window at a time we are finally getting some privacy back!
Please don’t mind our un-fluffed pillows, but we shouldn’t forget that we actually live here & that means we sit on our pillows & don’t fluff them after. It’s natural. This is our upstairs sitting room & we hung some lovely white Ikea curtains that I picked up this past summer & I finally got to hang them in our new home which felt pretty cool. We will be adding blinds later, but for now these will do solo & I’m super happy with them. These curtains fit so perfectly & we actually hung them on our dining room slider door that is right across from this room…
Our dining room is quite empty at the moment, actually we are getting a new dining room table today! More on that later. But for now I threw a tablecloth over an old dining table we found in our basement.. hey it works! & we hung curtains! These Ikea curtains are less than $20 a pair. You really can’t go wrong. The curtain rods were purchased almost 5 years ago for our North Carolina house from Walmart & they are still going strong! These curtains are super subtle & neutral {shocking.. I know} but they do add a soft edge & really make the home a little cozier.
Before I start on these, please don’t judge our mismatched curtain hardware. A little ordering mishap that will hopefully be solved soon. These curtains in our lower level living room were so simple to make & meant to only be a temporary window treatment solution, but I’m loving them so much that they might stick around for a little while longer. I of course didn’t take a photo of the process of making these because I didn’t think they were staying, but they were so easy that pictures might not be necessary. To make these I simply used drop cloths found at the hardware store that we happened to have lying around the house. Of course the drop cloth was too long for the window so I had to come up with a solution. After I measured about how long the curtains needed to be for the slider I laid them out on the floor & folded them at the top about 16 inches down from the top & clipped them in place with the curtain rings that I also found at the hardware store. That is literally it. I hung them up & voila I had instant “no sew” curtains that cost me less than $10 a piece.
Are curtains exciting to you? Because it makes me so excited that our new neighbors don’t have to watch our every move. About 5 more rooms to go for curtains, but we are making progress! What do you think of our new window/old window treatments? I hope you are excited as me that we are starting to work on our house again. Do you guys remember what this house looked like when we first moved in? The progress reminds me of how far we have come. You can see the Michigan house tour “before” [[Here]]. Let me know what you think in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram. xx
Love the fold over curtains. They look amazing.
I love this idea of no sew curtains! We just recently moved and we’ve been having large sheets of paper covering our windows. I just hate the thought that my neighbors can see us at night through the windows. I’m very excited about our new window covering on our first floor! It’s nice to see a room come together.
Just recently dyed me some drop cloths for our sliding glass window curtains. Love how they turned out–and you can’t beat the price for sure!
Question, and I am sure I know the answer, but where did you get your leather chair? I’ve been wanting one for our bedroom, and yours is lovely!
What a great idea and something pretty much anyone can do (and afford)! I’m curious, what color are your walls? I’d love to paint ours and we have similar color furniture and white curtains from Ikea as well– just don’t know where to begin picking a white color. It’s overwhelming!
Lovely post! Can you please tell me where you got the pet food storage bin?
Thanks!!
I’m loving the leather chair as well!! please share:)
I was wondering how you felt about your rug. Is it a natural grass? I think I have the same one. My family hates ours and I’m not sure how I feel about it. You sure can’t lay on the floor and everything that touches the rug gets full of fibers. Have u written a post about it that I might have missed?? Love your new home. We recently moved to a different state also. Best wishes stesteph
I would also love to know about the pet food storage bins. Thanks so much.
This is genius!! What a great idea. I’m pretty sure I’ll be stealing this idea.
I was introduced to your blog by the adorable and sweet Rach Lea. She told me how awesome your blog was so I just HAD to check it out! She was so right. I’m a regular follower now 🙂
I LOVE your home! You are such a genius, I think your curtain idea should be hung in every store or in every newspaper for the people that move into homes would use this wonderful idea and NOT hang sheets at the window…there should be a law against it!. This is one of my silly idiosincratic things. If I were healthy I would make them for charity for people who need them. TFS hope.
I had the same idea! Did you wash your drop cloths? I had bought new ones and they had the creases in in them from being folded up in the pkg – washed them and then they shrunk wayyyyyy up lol Just curious how you got the big crease marks out – love your blog, so glad I stumbled across it!!
You’ve been back in Michigan for little while now, how are you liking it? Kinda cold compared to east coast?
I really like the paint cloth curtains best, the fabric is my favorite and how you turned over excess to make the ruffle over curtains. Think I’m needing to do that for bedroom curtains, only stencil on paint cloths. I made curtains out of clearance tablecloths which I lined last year but they’re just not doing it for me. Just have to decide if I’ll stencil or not. Cutting Edge stencils has one I really like, have seen how it looks but want to be very sure before I start. Might just line the paint cloths, leave them plain. Did you bleach your paint cloths when you washed them? Where did you get yours, I’ve noticed different stores have varied shades of cloths?
Did you wash more than once to get them to look as they do? Have to be scientific about how we prepare our drop cloths for curtains. Hope you’re happy being in Michigan. Happy New Year
If you care to reply please do so to email address, thanks
when you’re busy, busy, busy… it has to be no=sew! they are beautiful, Liz!
I have been looking for a curtain for the guest bedroom, this is perfect. Thank
you ,really love your new house
Just wondering where you got your two gray arm chairs? I’m looking for ones just like that.
Just gorgeous girl. Loving your new home. Sharing on FB today 🙂
Hugs, Jamie
I just looked at your post with the “before” pictures of you Michigan home. It LOOKS crazy similar to my home (layout wise). How it looks now, I wouldn’t have even known! It gives me hope for ours 🙂 Also, are there any images of the outside of your Michigan home? Would like to know if you have the California ranch look of our home.
Thank you for sharing this. I am going to make these someday. I also want to know, where did you get that beautiful leather chair?
just wondering, a few questions were asked in the comment section, mine included. Does time allow for answers? Just wondering if there is another spot to ask questions on what we see.
thank you julie
love your drop cloth curtains and the fact that they are “no-sew” makes me love ’em even more! Drop cloths are one of the best home decor supplies available. They make great curtains, chair slipcovers, pillows, table runners, et.al. They take dye and fabric paint like a chairm and wear like iron. Your curtains are so pretty and another great story of how drop cloths always add more.
Lovely! Also wondering where you found the chairs- both gray and leather chairs.
Thanks so much!
I love your Better Together lyric sign. Where did you get it? Or did you make it? (How?)
How do these hold up against the Michigan winter? Do you add a lining in the Fall? Thanks!
What size dropcloth did you use?
Nice ideas . For what it is worth , if one requires to rearrange two images , my wife discovered piece here

The 32nd anniversary of Carousel Of Hope Gala took place
at the Beverly Hilton hotel, in Beverly Hills, California on October 23, 2010.
The increase in sales was great, but it made more work for my shipping
and design people, who at the same time had to deal with the extra task of
taking orders. For those times when you want to add sparkle to a more
casual summer outfit, The Highest Heel at Banana – Shoes also does a fabulous
sparkly wedge shoe.
