I’m not sure if I ever said it here on the blog, but ever since we moved into our Michigan house almost two months ago we have been on the hunt for a dining room table. We couldn’t use our amazing farmhouse table from our last two houses because this dining room is so small that we use that table in a different room in our house that will be on the blog soon. We found an old one in the basement here but it wasn’t what we wanted, but it worked find for a temporary table. The hunt continuesd at antique stores, online sites, side of the road, you name it we looked & couldn’t find anything. Of course there was the option to build one, but with life as crazy as it was when we moved here, building one would have to wait. Well, yesterday while I was at my booth at Painted Farm Girl I stumbled upon a dining table that spoke to me. I liked it, but it needed some work & I can handle that right now so it came home with me.
There the table is! It’s a heavy little beast. I love the salvaged antique legs & the white & wood combo. You might be able to see the work that it needs right away. Thankfully the fixes should be pretty easy & not so time consuming. Here is a little run-down of what we will be doing in our dining room & more specifically to the table now that we are finally working on this room.
Were the legs bothering you? Yah me too. I’m wondering if this was meant to be a sofa table.. a large one? Anyways, those will be moving asap. The top of the table needs to be fixed with some clamps or maybe even a whole new top in general. I want to make the top a little wider as well. A few more quick things in the room: Add a barstool to set by the kitchen counter, find new dining chairs, add some shelves or a slim piece of furniture, & change the light fixture or lower it.
I’m feeling so great that we took the first step towards working on our dining area since this room is visible right when you walk into our house. I think a super hard decision will be the chairs. I just like so many! Do you have any chair suggestions… 4,6, style, color. Leave them below! What do you think of the table? Are you excited for us to move the legs & maybe change the top? Because I am! I can’t wait to hear from you & be sure to chat with me on Facebook & Instagram! xx
This dining room is beautiful. I love the table, the lighting and especially the chairs. I even like how you displayed your little doggie dishes. Your style is impeccable!
Love ,love your blog, love your style, Thanks! Its a treat!!!
Looks great! Will the chairs fit under the table once the legs are moved? If so, I’d keep the chairs. I like the industrial metal with the rustic table. I am especially in love the the signage on the wall. Can you give me info on it?
Would it fit or look bad to add benches on both of the long sides and IKEA white slippered chairs on the end? I personally like the industrial ones too, but they might be too wide when you move the table legs.? Anything you do will look amazing!!
On a different note: my husband and I used to be home builders and your house plan was one we built a couple times, I envisioned how it could look all decorated beautifully, so this is truly a gift watching you in making this house your home!! ~Kim
I love this table find! Those legs are fun and unique! I would go with 6 chairs so you can enjoy more people around your lovely table, unless you can use your old bigger table for larger get togethers. I personally love ladder back chairs. We are in the process of gather components to build our own farmhouse table and we will be painting out chairs an off-white, distressing them, and re-covering the seats in some sort of tan/linen color fabric. I can’t wait to see how you finish your table!! I’m excited for you!
The first thing I noticed were the legs being too close together. So glad you are moving them. I also think you need a rectangle rug instead of a circle. As for chairs the room is so small you will need to be careful. have you thought about ghost chairs or something all upholstery like a parsons…wood can be visually heavy in a space which is why I recommend those…even benches would work. Enjoy the fix!!
My house is not huge and has a small dining room and living room, and I find that to be a big design challenge for me when all I see at stores is huge dining room sets and couches. Your home seems much smaller than others you have lived in. How do you plan to work with the small size in years to come (I know you have said this is your forever home). I would think design would be SO difficult because furniture seems to be so much bigger these days than what is needed for small homes. I would love your thoughts on this–maybe a blog post?
Sooo glad you said something about the placement of the legs! I was sitting here thinking, “Should I say anything? I don’t want to be negative Nellie, but they look a little off.” Looking forward to seeing it completed!
I love the chairs that are with it!! Such a great find on the table! I would keep the four you have and maybe do something different for the chairs on the ends of the table! Cant wait to see what you come up with! 🙂
I love this table! The legs are simply amazing, but like you, I think the table will look better once you move them. There are so many options for chairs, so good luck deciding! I had replaced my wooden dining chairs with IKEA chairs originally, but then replaced them again with an awesome find on modern chairs from Craigslist. I can’t wait to see what you decide!
I can’t wait to see how you transform this table! We are getting ready to build a table and the paint and stain choices are overwhelming! I’m debating chairs too. So tough to know until they’re pulled up to the table. Excited to see what you choose!
Love the look of the table, and oh so glad you are moving the legs! It was messing with my OCD just a little, haha! I am totally swooning over the light fixture, I would love to add something like that to my breakfast nook in my kitchen. Beautiful style as always and I’m sure whatever you decide will be gorgeous! I’m loving all the changes you’ve made to your new home so far and you are definitely inspiring me to make some changes to my own!
The table legs are gorgeous, I would have bought the table just for those! I definitely agree with moving them though, it looks a bit out of proportion now.
Gorgeous, and I love the chairs around it 🙂

YES! forgot to add that! We are changing the rug too! This one will be in our guest room 🙂 Thanks for reminding me & for the suggestions!!! xx
Aww but I LOVE the chairs and light! I think shelving will look amazing though. And I agree about the table. I know whatever you do will be beautiful as it always is. 🙂
It’s going to look adorable! Thanks for sharing 🙂

I would widen the legs, like you said, and paint them in a dark charcoal gray. I would purchase a wooden bench so you have bench seating on one side of the table, metal chairs at the ends, and a pair at opposite side of the bench. I would move the table to the right slightly, on the bench side, so that you make more room for your counter stools. The light would need to be moved to accommodate the table move, however, but I would change the light anyway. You could do the “Hood” light from Rejuvenation with the wire cage, it would look fabulous! Also, I would change the round seagrass rug for a larger rectangle; otherwise you will catch the chair legs on the rug every time you move from the table. Just my two cents…good luck!
I was going to comment like a reader did presviously- I like the direction you are headed but would go with a round table over a round rug or a rectangle table over a rectangle rug. The two mixed doesn’t work for me, personally.
Love the chairs, love the doggy dishes!
Gorgeous! Where did you get the light fixture??
Similar ones are at World Market… https://www.worldmarket.com/product/four-sided+glass+hanging+pendant+lantern.do?&from=fn
I just realized that I saw you at the Painted Farmgirl yesterday. Happened to be in the area yesterday and visited the store for the first time, after hearing about if from friends. Many beautiful items and displays and I noticed your booth and your sign, realizing it was your blog! After I left, I also realized that you were there too. Wished I had put it together sooner and would have talked to you. I love your style and eagerly await to see the finished dining room table.
SO glad to read you’re going to dance those pretty legs out a little!
LOVE the chairs but if you want a change how about the byholma wicker ones at IKEA? 🙂 ps, love the misters blog too…
It looks great and the minimal changes will be spectacular! Do you have any legs like this or somewhat like this at Painted Farmgirl? I am looking for some for my kitchen island. The contractor wants to install by next Tuesday. I’m in Michigan and can make a drive over there.
Hi Liz!
Great find for your table, and I agree about the legs! When you are taking everything apart, you might want to add a new center board to the table to widen it?
After our recent move, I found a Pottery Barn pine table (heavy beast) on craigslist for $200. and paired it with 4 caned-back chairs for the sides (also a craigslist find), and 2 new chairs from Target that have a “burlap” covering. I’m getting lots of compliments already and haven’t even begun the table makeover yet!
Good luck and God bless~ Juju
Cute! Love it!
I have been obsessed lately with lexmod.com for furniture and I just ordered some super mod chairs to go with my country farmhouse table!
Keep the slip-covered chairs and add some wicker chairs, as in your picture of your favorite door. The metal chairs with the table are both fighting for attention.
Love it! Where did you get the sign?? I love that too!
Did you do the boarded walls yourself? Love them! If so, do you have a DIY on how to?
Hi where did you get the sign on the wall…I know sugarboo designs has a similar one but I love the layout and frame on yours!

Where did you get the sign? Gorgeous!!❤️
I’ll come back to this blog for sure! I bookmarked this blog a while ago because of the useful content and
Where did you get those beautfiul pillow covers you have on the metal chairs? I have the same chairs and am trying to decide whether to get back or seat cushions and those are the exact ones i want!
I would also love to know where you got the sign.
I truly appreciate this post. I have been looking all over for this! Thank goodness I found it on Bing. You’ve made my day! Thx again!

I have been surfing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty worth enough for me. In my view, if all website owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be much more useful than ever before.
