It’s finally spring here in Michigan. Some of you may think I’m insane, but I turned the AC in my car on today & I LOVED IT. I was walking outside at 8pm tonight & I was warm.. it’s just glorious. Don’t get me wrong, I love the coziness of winter & I’m actually thankful we live in a state that there are snowy winters because we get the pleasure of the springtime being so much sweeter. It’s really a blessing. One thing about winter is that it delays some projects. Whether you don’t feel motivated & just want to snuggle up with some hot chocolate or it’s the snow stops you from doing the actual project, either way the spring motivates you again to do those little projects. For me? I’m starting with our downstairs bathroom. It’s a small space & it really needs painting. The nicotine stained walls are dreary & it’s the only walls in the house that haven’t been painted yet since we’ve moved here 4 months ago. So, since the spring is here I am promising myself I will finally get those projects done I have putting off all winter. I figured I would post the “before” photos of the downstairs bathroom today so that you guys hold me accountable. I’m also blogging this to bring you guys an exciting opportunity. Stay tuned to the bottom of the post for more details. But first, our downstairs bathroom “before” & “progress”…
The downstairs bathroom before we moved in….
& a little progress I made last fall before we lived in the house…
Back in the fall before we even moved to our Michigan house from North Carolina I came up to the house to work on it. I painted the cabinets in our downstairs bathroom since we salvaged those when we gutted the house. You can see that full makeover post [here]. I also ripped up the floor & took off all the old trim in the space. Here is how the space looked today when I quick snapped some photos of it…
The walls need to be painted, the mirror needs to be hung correctly, we need new rugs, towel hooks, art, decor, switch plates, & maybe a quick DIY ceiling fix. This is one of my spring projects & I’m so excited that now I can open the window for some fresh air while I paint the small space. Oh & maybe I will clean that dirty mirror while I’m at it?! Hi guys! No shame here!
Do you have any projects like this in your home? Would you like me to com visit you & help you with a little spring project? Well….

Awwww, for once I wish my city was bleak! I would love to team up with someone! I even have the perfect project, my laundry room! With a Pinterest board of ideas and everything ready for someone to come help! Doesn’t St. Louis seem bleak enough for you?! Hahaha 🙂
Love what you’ve done with the bathroom so far! Where did you get that grain sack shower curtain?! I love it!
i love the style of the bathroom…my house currently doesn’t lend to this style, but I have a comp notebook with specs for when we build! Ohhh…i’m sooo ready…many ideas are from here, so thank you!!! Rock on sister solder!
Thank you for this exciting opportunity Our family moved into our home last year and would love some new inspiration, Most of my house looks like your “before” pics and our winter here in North Jersey was the bleakest EVER! I will quickly be applying for your consideration. Thanks again!
bummer…..might Grand Rapids be considered a “suburb’ of Detroit???? 🙂
Hello! I love the tall cabinet in your bathroom! Where did you get it??? Please don’t tell me you made it…. LOL!!
I entered the contest! COME ON OVER LIZ! 🙂
Nicely done! I’m looking for ideas for a bathroom remodel and love what you’ve done with yours!
I’ve been searching all your other posts for the answer, but can’t seem to find it! What kind of flooring do you have throughout your home? We are moving into our first home in two weeks & I’m in love with the dark wood look! Can you share what kind/type/brand of flooring you have? Thank you!
I LOVE your style!! I so love your blog! I, too, have a 1980s tri-level home. I don’t think we will ever move so I am working on updating it one project at time. I am dying to replace our cheesy oak trim with some 1X4s or 1X6s painted white. Do you have a post about how you did this or are you thinking about doing a post about this soon? I could use some helpful tips if you have any! And I am jealous of your doors!
Liz!!!! Are you kidding me? How lucky am I to live in one of the bleakest cities in the country this past winter! You have no idea how thrilled I would be for you and Lowe’s to help me with my back porch! I know you know that decor is my thing and I have an eye to pull my back porch together, but I need specific help on something I can’t do on my own! I just submitted! Keeping my fingers crossed! Great excuse to come over;)
