I went back and forth on blogging this because it was just something so simple that I utilized in our office for the pups, but after sharing a photo on my Instagram the other day & getting lots of questions, I decided to share away! Our dogs love sitting by me wherever I go, so I wanted to create them a little spot in the office where I spend a lot of time. They also like looking out the window, & they also have a lot of toys. So, there was one solution. A dog bed that was high enough to see out the window & that had storage for all of their dog things. I came up with a simple DIY that involved using things I already had on hand.
So cozy, the dogs can’t even stay awake on it. Seriously, this is their favorite spot in the house & all it took was for me to attach a dog bed to a wooden box. Seriously, that’s it. & it allows me to keep an eye on them while I work. I win. They love looking out the window & they sleep here about 75% of their day.
How did I make this gem? Simple. A glue gun & some velcro. Now, technically you could just put the dog bed on top of the box, but then you run into some problems like it falling off when the dogs jump on and off & it sliding off when you open the box. So I just decided to use some velcro to eliminate those issues.
I already had the dog bed & the antique wood box. You could use any hinged box or make your own. I hot glued the velcro to the bottom of the dog bed so I can just take the cover off the bed still and wash it when need be. Let’s face it my dogs aren’t that dirty so I barely have to wash this bed, but when I do it’s easy. Then the other velcro is located on the top of the box. All the velcro is attached with hot glue. Ours has washed fine and stayed attached, but for extra security or so that you don’t possibly have to hot glue it in the future, you could sew it. If you are into that kind of thing. & you could use a staple gun to attach the velcro to the box. Seriously so many possibilities. I just took the 5 second DIY project route & used my trusty glue gun. Because, hot glue.
haha Bear could not stay awake for any of it. He just wanted to nap & I was distracting him from doing so. Sorry Bear! I’ll let you get back to sleeping. I got this lovely little dog bed on clearance at a local boutique to me this past winter, but I found the same one [here] on Amazon for those of you who love it. I hope that answers some questions about my DIY dog bed with storage, & I hope you love it! It works for our lovely little office. Do your dogs love dog beds? Have you made a DIY dog bed before? Let me know in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram.
Seriously your dogs are the cutest thing ever! My dog spends all day with me too and I built her a bed which she spends 10% of her time in as my lap apparently is way better! Haha
Seriously LOVE this BED … Reminds me of the Farmhouse Wares place you get your other pillows from.
Your dogs are adorable! I love this idea and the fabric/design is just perfect!
I love your style, and I love your dogs.
