I was wondering through Michaels the other day with my cherry coke & I stumbled upon these half pumpkins they had. I’m not a HUGE crafter, but I do love a good DIY so my brain started thinking about what I can do with them. I threw three in my cart & decided what I was going to do with them when I got home. I later decided to do something super simple with them for the first project with half pumpkins. A DIY fall pumpkin sign seemed right up my alley. I searched our garage for a piece of scrap wood & found an awesome piece that Jose had lying around. I gathered the pumpkins, some paint, stencils, & wax to make a super easy DIY fall sign…
If you follow me on periscope [Liz Marie Blog on there if you want to find me] I did a video on how to make this sign & get your faux pumpkins to look like this. If you ever wanted to watch awkward videos of me, hear my voice, & get sneak peeks of the house and projects I suggest you follow me on there. But, for those of you who missed the live periscope session then here is a run down of how I made this lovely fall sign…
1. Paint a board in the color of your choice. I happen to find a board that was the perfect length for the three pumpkins & the word “Fall” You can choose your own word & pumpkin placement, but this is what I chose. It’s actually a step for a deck & that is what it has all of the grooves in it. Groovy!
2. I painted the board confederate gray & stenciled the word “Fall” with stencils from Target in the color Ivory by Maison Blanche. When the paint was dried I waxed the entire board with dark brown wax by Maison Blanche to give it an aged look.
3. The pumpkins have a hole on the back to hang the pumpkins so we put three screws in the board in between the letters to hang the pumpkins on. Before I hung them I decided to wax the pumpkins as well so I took the dark wax & brushed it all over the pumpkins & wiped it off with a paper towel. It took the pumpkins to the next level & made them look more custom. The wax dried great & wasn’t sticky or tacky at all. Here are the pumpkins before, during, & after the waxing…
& the lovely fall sign completed styled in our home…
I love how this simple fall sign turned out & also how neutral it is. Of course you could already guess that. I look forward to playing around with these craft pumpkins a little more this fall & I feel like there are so many possibilities for them. Have you played around with these pumpkins before? What did you make? I would love to see what you did! Let me know in the comments below, find me on Facebook, or chat with me on Instagram. xx
