It’s not everyday I dedicate a whole post to one of my junkin’ finds, but today is one of those days. You guys! I have been looking for a large grocery scale for quite some time now, but with no luck on finding on at the right price, I finally found one this past weekend & I couldn’t be more happy. Now, it’s actually a money scale.. haha, and it’s not the one made in Detroit that I wanted, but pickers can’t be choosers right? Or something like that. It looks the same & functions the same so that’s the part that matters in this case. As soon as we go this big baby home [it’s heavier than you would think] we plopped it on the kitchen counter & their it sits. It’s quite large in our tiny kitchen, but who uses the last foot of their kitchen counter anyways? I joke, but really. By now you should know I do things on a large scale [no pun intended] & it’s not for everyone, but guess who it is for? This girl. I love how it brings some antique vibes to our kitchen & kind of makes it have an old grocery store vibe….
& there it is in all of it’s scale glory. So, as I said it’s not exactly a grocery scale, but a money scale none the less. I will never be weighing money.. ever in my life, so why not put it in the kitchen & stick a pumpkin on it. Done! I found this baby dowtown Grand Rapids here in Michigan at a lovely antique store called Lost & Found. If you are in the area you should for sure stop in there & say hi to Mark the owner & tell him I sent you there… he might have a funny story or two about me.. or he might say sorry to you.. it would be interesting either way haha.
You know those items that you have been on the hunt for since forever & then you finally find it? Yah. that feeling. It’s like my little junkin’ heart bursts with pride over this little baby. To others, it may seem like a silly scale, but it’s something I’ve dreamed of having in my little kitchen. I can imagine in it moving to other houses with us & setting in those kitchens too with new items on it, new memories being made around it, & maybe it will be one of those items that I pass down to my children someday. Who knows what kind of adventures this scale will have or the adventures it did have, but for now it’s happy here in our home & will be very loved.
So, there. You and the scale have now been introduced. You already know she may move, her decor will change, but I don’t have to tell you all that. If you read my blog often this is already natural to you, but for those who are newer here. Things are always changing & that’s why I blog, because it needs to be documented before it changes again. Let me know what you think of our new scale in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram. As always thank you from the bottom of my heart for stopping by the blog & sharing it with your friends. THANK YOU! xx
I love that feeling of finding that perfect thing! Mine is usually ” I never even knew that I always wanted *this*, but now that I see it, I have to have it!” Quirky, statement pieces are definitely my jam!! Great find!~Kim
Love this awesome scale! I can see how fits perfectly in your home! I love those Aha! Moments when you spot a gem like this in an antique or thrift store. Thanks for sharing! I can’t wait to see how you style this beauty next time.

Liz! That is so cool. I am actually from Dayton, is that the location of where the scale was made? If it was originally for money I wonder if it was used at NCR (which was headquartered in Dayton until a couple of years ago). Really neat!
