I made my first advent calendar today. You don’t know how excited I am about that. You see, for years I have come up with a million ideas on DIY advent calendars, but never got around to making one. Well, today was the day & it was literally the quickest easiest DIY ever. I ended up using our DIY ladder that we built a few weeks ago that I blogged [here]. this ladder has got a lot of use in this house since we made it, but I think this DIY ladder advent calendar is my favorite use of it…
You can see how to make the first part of this DIY, which is the ladder, [here]. The next part? This is the easy part. I got this advent stocking garland from A Cottage In The City [here] & laid it out. I figured out how many stockings I wanted on each rung of the ladder & decided 6 on each rung of the ladder would be best. I then cut the string ever 6 stockings. After they were all cut I simply tied the ends of the strings on each rung of the ladder. So easy your toddler could do it, but you probably wouldn’t want that because they would just try to climb the ladder which isn’t too productive when making this advent calendar.
Advent calendars to me really get me excited for Christmas & the countdown to Jesus’ birthday. Advent calendars are one of my favorite christmas decor items. This is a great little DIY to have in the home for kids as well by putting a prize in the stocking like a piece of candy or an ornament to hang onto the Christmas tree each day. Or in our case just to display & look super cute for the holidays even though Jose would probably prefer if I put candy bars in each of the stockings for him.
I hope you guys liked today’s Christmas DIY project. Have you ever made an advent calendar before? I would love to see yours! All kinds of adorable. Love it!!
This is so cute! I’m a tad embarrassed to say but we have 3 Advent Calendars. One is made of little embellished paper bags strung like garland on twine, one papee Stars hanging down from a tree branch spray painted white (both that I made) and the third was a gift… A beautiful wooden magnetic set. Love your blog and house! Merry Christmas!
I love how you can look at something and see it in your mind as something completely different!!! Simply lovely, my friend! ~Kim
What a great (and easy) idea! We’ve just started using an Advent calendar with our kids this year, and they are really enjoying it. I think it’s a great way to keep in mind the REAL reason why Christmas should be celebrated!
And because us grown ups also need to be reminded of this, I think you should totally throw in some candy bars for the two of you!
