A while back I got some old french doors randomly. When I got them I had NO idea what to do with them so they just sat for a while. One day I laid the doors sideways on the floor & I instantly saw it. A weekly chalkboard calendar. I know there are many possibilities for this door, but that is where my brain went with it. It was so easy to make & an easy DIY is always the best kind of DIY in my book. Also, I think January is a month we really try to get our lives more organized & what better than a large calendar that can keep your whole family in the loop about everyone’s weekly schedule….
The door BEFORE I gave it a little makeover…
& AFTER a little paint….
To make this DIY door chalkboard calendar all I used was some chalkboard paint, a paint brush, & some chalk. I gave each window panel a few layers of chalkboard paint with letting it dry in between layers. I purchased my chalkboard paint from Target by the way & it works great. You can prime before you put the chalkboard paint on the glass which will allow for less layers of chalk paint, but I decided to skip that step in this project. After all the layers of chalkboard paint were dry, I seasoned the chalkboard squares by rubbing a piece of chalk on the wide side over all the chalkboard paint & wiping it off with a cloth. After the chalkboard was all seasoned I wrote in all the days of the week & added sections for notes, groceries, & a to-do list. You can always add different sections that make it easier on you & your families life. It’s that easy! A chalkboard perfect for an office, entryway, or command center of your home.
I hope you guys liked this DIY door chalkboard calendar. I hope this idea helps some of you get the new year off to a fresh & organized start. I am going to be selling this chalkboard in our new store, The Found Cottage, & actually this whole setup is in our new store! The desk was painted by My Sweet Dream, the lamp is from The Golden Sycamore along with the trees, & all of these items pictured including the chalkboard calendar will be available when our doors open this Thursday. We have been so busy getting the store ready to open, but having so much fun in the process. Be sure to follow The Found Cottage [here] & also be sure to follow me elsewhere on Instagram [here] & Facebook [here] to keep up with me outside of the blog.
Oh this is so cute!!! We have about a million doors/windows laying around! Will have to whip one up! I will probably end up skipping primer too – I am never one who likes to wait around for things to dry ; )
I am SO BAD at prep work. Like the worst. I’m glad I’m not alone 😉 haha have fun making yours!!!!! xx
Such a cute idea. Wishing you all the best opening your store!! I’ll say a prayer ……
It turned out great, Liz Marie. I think it would be great as a blog post scheduler or small business schedule too. Lots of possibilities. All the best with the store opening. Your photos are gorgeous btw. They are so crisp and bright.
Très réussi ! Merci pour l’idée.
