I wanted to come on here quickly today & share with you something pretty awesome that came together in the store this week. So, last Sunday a friend of mine & I drove to Indian Junkin’. We had such a great time & found some amazing things. Well, at one of our stops were two great pieces that were separate, that were clearly made for each other. I’m talking about a tiny shelf & a table. The lady who was selling them had them stacked on top of each other, but not attached. That got me thinking… how easy it is to make a simple potting bench, or a an awesome & very functional piece of furniture for any room in your home. I had to get the two pieces to share it with you today in case this is something that you could use for your house…
So pretty much this DIY is pretty basic, but a great way to create a functional piece of furniture none the less. The top part [shelves] is one piece & was a found item, but you could easily make the shelves to attach to the top of any table like this table that I also found. To make the shelves to attach to any table you already had you would just buy (2) 1 x 12 @ 6ft board from your local hardware store or lumber yard. For the sides cut down the boards to 2ft 8 inches and use the remainder of the board for the shelves (39 7/8 for a true 6ft board (you lose 1/8 inch from the saw blade)). For the top of the shelving unit, you will need another 1 x 12 at 42 inches to account for the slight overhang. I simply attached the top shelves to the little table I got with “L” brackets & screwed the shelves into the table that way. So now the two pieces are one. Or you could go the easy way & use a shoe organizer [Like this one] from Target & attach it to the top of any table you have lying around your house….
Even better huh? & easier! You could attach this shoe organizer to the top of any table using an “L” bracket pictured below you have a super simple DIY potting bench. You could then paint the two pieces or just leave it like I did…..
Seriously such a simple idea right? This piece would be great in a dining room stacked with dishes and decor as a buffet, a great kids desk, great in a craft room, as a mini office anywhere in your home, & of course as a potting bench & so much more. I love things like this that just fit together & work so well. I styled mine as a potting bench in our store, The Found Cottage, & it’s such a great display piece for the store & I hope it goes to a great home because sadly I have no room for it, or do I? I hope you guys enjoyed this post today & got some inspiration to put together a DIY potting bench. Be sure to follow me on Facebook & Instagram to keep up with outside of the blog & seriously THANK YOU for stopping by my blog & sharing it with your friends. xx
Nice. I love these.
