This post was stemmed from something we sell at our store. I was at our shop the other day & I overheard a lot of people discussing the posters we sell in the store. The posters hang on a display & are really for grabbing and using in your DIY projects. You can really use them in so many different ways. That got me thinking that I wanted to share with you guys how I use these posters we sell & how you can incorporate any posters, maps, wrapping paper, or any paper products for that matter into art. Today I’m showing how to make some super quick and easy DIY antique window art using some paper products…
Seriously so easy to make! First, get a window. You can find antique windows at your local thrift stores, vintage boutiques, or your grandmas garage. Clean the window thoroughly first, this step is really important so that the paper will adhere to the window when you apply the modge podge. Take the paper that you are wanting to use for your art & place it on the clean window face down where you want it to be & place a piece of tape at the top of the paper so that it stays in place. Be sure you have the side you want to be your art facing down on the glass like you would place it in a picture frame with the glass touching the “art side” or the face. Grab your modge podge [I use the modge podge matte [here]] & lift the poster up exposing the face of the print [the tape at the top will hold it in place when you lift] a paint brush & start in the center of the paper brushing on a light layer of the modge podge in 4 inches sections to the front side of your paper [the side you want showing, the side that is face down on the glass] & then pressing the area with the modge podge on it to the window firmly rubbing all the bubbles out rubbing from the center to the edges. You can use a foam roller or any other tule you are comfortable with to rub out the air bubbles, I honestly prefer using my hands. Move down the poster from the center where you started, adding the modge podge & sticking the paper to the glass. When you finished half the poster [from center to the bottom] Start moving center to the top adding the modge podge with a paint brush to the paper & sticking it to the glass until you reach the top. Now let it dry & you have yourself some DIY window art! You can attach wire to the back of the window frame to hang it or any other hanging hardware you like.
& here are the lovely rustic poster window art after they were dried…
Seriously my new favorite thing to do is to modge podge. Making art with all the paper! You can find similar posters [here] to use for your DIY window art projects, but you could also use any paper you have lying around & turn it into art with antique windows. I’m actually super new to using modge podge so it was a fun experience trying it out. I will be doing some more projects in the future with it for sure. I’m no pro, but I have fun being crafty & trying new things & sharing them with you guys.
