I have to tell you a little story that will explain me in a nutshell. Well, not all of me, but how my brain works & how I usually work. You see, last year at the beginning of 2015 I bought a calendar at Anthopologie [similar one here]. Not to keep myself on schedule, not to be more organized, but simply because I adored the art work in it. It was a Rifle Paper Co. Calendar. The bee addition. The one with the pretty gold foil artwork. Yah, that one. Ok, So I thought to myself “Self, we will hang this in our house & then when 2016 hits we will make beautiful artwork out of it.” All year I looked at the calendar hanging in my kitchen thinking of ways I would display the art after the year was over. Maybe hang them in individual frames in a gallery wall, maybe clip them to something, & my final thought was to get a 12 pane window to display them in. So, that’s what I did. I found the PERFECT window to fit them all in. 2016 came & I took down the calendar & placed it in a drawer after separating all the pages. A month went by & I finally had time to sit down & work on this project I had been thinking about for an entire year. & GUESS WHAT? I laid out all the months to get them ready to attach to the window & I’m missing February. February! Where could it have gone? Well, Jose laughed at me because this is so typical. I will lose it, or forget about it, or make a mess of it. It’s just me. We ripped the house up looking for it. Nothing! No February in sight. Well, another thing about me is that I’m really good at improvising & making things up on the fly because I’m far from a perfectionist. I was GOING to make my DIY calender art February or no February. Here is what I came up with…
So there it is! My DIY recycled calendar art. Minus February. But if you really think about it.. was it really needed? Nope. Want to know how I fixed it? Well, first of all I attached the calendar pages to each spot by stapling them to the back of the window pane. So easy. & to fill in missing February spot I used the cover page of the calendar. So it goes: cover photo, January, March, April, & so on. I love how rustic the window was & I even left a lot of the paint on the window & didn’t scrape it off because I loved how it paired with each of the art prints.
Seriously, I think it’s adorable & I hope you like it too. Old calendars could be displayed in so many different ways. Even one of the months displayed in a simple frame would be perfect. Got to love cheap art! & for any of you out there who think I have my life together.. I hope this proves that I’m a hot mess with the best of them. BUT I do try to make the best of every situation. I’m still hoping February pops up somewhere.. I mean, where could it possibly be? Anyways, what do you think of my DIY recycled Calendar art? If you have a calendar around that you love this would be great “free” art for around your house.
