Today’s post is more of a personal “accomplishment” post. You see, I love love love greenery. It’s evident in our house that I love bringing nature inside. We use greenery in every room of our home & it’s kind of a signature thing of mine. Confession? Most of them are faux! I honestly haven’t ever really flexed my green thumb so one of my things I wanted to start this year is starting to really try out that green thumb of mine. I’m staring small by playing with succulents & I started with these little planters that I made for some Mother’s day gifts. I wanted to share them with you today because of course you are going to be coming along on this little greenery journey of mine here on the blog & we have to start somewhere…
A few days ago the weather was so warm & I wanted to do a little project outside so I took some containers that I got from the Target dollar section. Yes, these containers were from the Target dollar section. I couldn’t believe it. I used some dirt that I had found in the garage & some succulents that I picked up from Home Depot.
I’m not a “pro planter” quite yet, but I simply put some soil in the bottom of the planters then I took the succulent out of it’s original planter from Home Depot & broke apart soil a little bit & placed it in the new container from Target. & filled the container with more soil around the succulent. No watering required for while after planting because too much water is never a good thing for succulents. Again, I’m no expert, but these little guys seemed to love the transfer & are doing great… so far. You could use any planter you find if you don’t have these & they would make great gifts for moms, teachers, get well soon, or just a simple “I’m thinking of you” gift. I would love to get a succulent from someone & what a fun & simple gift to give as well!
I think I’m sharing this little project for another reason as well. I’ve been going through a few things lately & an hour of planting succulents & getting my hands dirty really was therapeutic for me. I never knew that playing in some dirt could clear my mind, but it really did. I twas a sunny day, I was listening to a good podcast, & working with some beautiful plants. The whole thing was really good for my soul. I would love to hear if you guys have a green thumb, any beginner tips, books I should read, or plants you love? I’m thinking about moving my love for plants outdoors this year too… I’m getting excited! Let me know in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, it means so much! xx

Ohhh I love them! It’s my goal to attempt to flex my green thumb this year too. I am no gardener either but it’s just something I’m interested in working on and I too will probably start working on smaller projects, probably succulents first then moving from there. Thanks for sharing this because it inspires me for my own garden journey!
I totally love your style! And I totally love succulents! I’m no expert but a few tips would be to put some rocks at the bottom of your planters before the dirt. It helps it drain because they don’t like to stay in water. And they make cactus soil to use with them too. I think it’s in an orange bag at Lowes and Home Depot. As for outside, perennials for your area are your best friend. Something that comes back every year 🙂 I do get a few annuals now though too for color when certain perennials aren’t in bloom. And if you do fruit trees, make sure to research them. Some need a mate to survive (could be the same or a cross), some fruits shouldn’t be mixed and some don’t need mates. I hope this helps! I’m no expert.
When did you get these adorable planters?? I have been to 4 targets looking for them and I can’t find them anywhere!! Such a cute idea and a great gift idea for any occasion but especially mom’s day and teacher appreciation week!
Me too, Kiley! They are so cute and I couldn’t find them either.
