Our Porch
Our porch is complex & I feel like I haven’t explained it very well so I feel like when I share the two stair landings on our porch I confused a lot of you because you think I keep changing up my decor day to day. So, I blogged the front steps the other day all decked out for fall [here], & today it’s all about the side steps of our porch & my favorite autumn flowers….

Decorating this Lovely Porch
I filled all our crocks with mums & added a few lovely pumpkins. I’ve collected these crocks over time & never had room for them at our last house, so I’m so thankful that they have a little home now! I learned a big lesson again this year.. when you get pumpkins early and it’s still hot out, the fruit flies will come. I had to get rid of a few pumpkins. Next year remind me to wait until it cools off a little to buy my fall decor. Not sure I’ll listen, but at least I’ll know whats coming. With all the renovations going on inside of our 1800’s farmhouse, we haven’t had much time to be outside, but we weren’t going to let this season go by without decorating this lovely porch of ours.
Bella, Bear, & Mr. LMB & I are glad you stopped by to check our porch today! I hope this shows you that fall decor can be as simple as some autumn flowers or plants like mums in cute pots and some pumpkins. It doesn’t have to be complicated to be beautiful. I also love using warm color on our outdoor fall decor like the deep oranges and reds & more neutral fall decor inside. Not sure why that is, but I do it naturally every year without even thinking about it. I hope you guys liked this mini tour of fall on our side steps. Let me know what you think in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram. Thank you SO MUCH for stopping by my little blog & for sharing it with your friends & family. xx
Ps. I’m heading to Waco, Texas today to visit Magnolia Market [read more here] Be sure to follow my journey over on Instagram [here] through my photos and stories. xx
Lisa,
What type of ground cover is that off your back porch?
Thanks.
You can never have enough porches, Liz Marie!!! I have been enjoying viewing the pretty pumpkins online…so many beautiful colors. And lastly, your vinca is divine! We had it in our landscaping around one of our previous homes and it never failed us!
Lisa, it looks a bit like Tradescantia Fluminensis / Wandering Jew.
Vinca Minor
A hint for your pumpkins/gourds: Wipe them with a damp cloth. Then spray them with a clear polyurethane spray paint (only if you are not going to use them as food later!). We position ours upside down first and spray them all and when dry, turn them over and then spray the tops. I was told never to rub them over the concrete because any little break in the skin will allow the fruit flies and rot! I am usually able to keep mine outside for two months in Mississippi (where the temps are still in the 90s!).
Happy Fall Y’all!!
Soak and rinse your pumpkins in water and bleach. One gallon water, 2 T. bleach is about right. Make sure the skin has no breaks. This can be done again if you notice the fruit flies or if the pumpkins are wilting. This has worked for us for years. Some add a little dish soap to the mix.
