A few weeks ago we had to take the door off of our laundry room for the painters… fast forward to a few days later, it was still off & you could see the mess of our laundry room opening from the dining room. We had to do something! Sure we could just put the original door back on the laundry room, but why make something that easy. In our last house there was really no possible way to add a sliding barn door hardware to a regular door to our home so right when we needed a new door on the laundry room I knew I wanted to try my hand at adding something a little more interesting to the space. I had actually picked up a door from one of our vendors at our store, The Found Cottage, & was going to use it in our kitchen, but when this opportunity came up I knew it would be amazing in this space…
I mean… cute right? You can see what the room looked like a little big before here…
It’s the door there on the right on the far end of the dining room. Very pretty, but we felt the sliding barn door was perfect for the entrance to the laundry room. & who doesn’t love a good barn door…
The door was a vintage find from my friend Holly & in place of the window she put a chalkboard. Thanks to Mr. LMB for putting the adorable “Laundry” word on the door. Isn’t is handwriting the neatest? Can’t say the same for mine. We bought our barn door hardware at Home Depot [here] & to hang the door we simply followed the directions it came with. But, we did do something before hanging the door. We hung a white architectural piece above the doorway & then we hung the barn door hardware over top of that architectural piece. It just added another element & another layer to the space. We also had to add the other half of the architectural piece that is above the doorway to the bottom of the door to add some extra length to it. Like most things we do, we always customize it to fit our home & make it ours. I truly love how this door turned out & how much character it adds to the space. I have been loving the barn door hardware from Home Depot. It slides very smoothly & it is very sturdy. You can find it cheaper on Amazon [here] if you have time to order ahead. It’s literally $100 cheaper than what we got ours for.. worth it I would say.
