Way back in the beginning of the front living room makeover I discovered the original fireplace behind the wall. I thought it was the greatest discovery ever. I was over the moon & felt like the luckiest girl in the world, but my dreams were completely deflated when I discovered that someone had written all over the brick, it had been damaged, & there was marble glued to the whole bottom half of it. The walls around it also needed to be repaired. It was just a huge mess that we didn’t want to get into right now. Of course all of this is fixable with a lot of work [& time] [& money] SO there has been a change of plans now, at least for the near future, we decided to close in the old brick fireplace with a simple shiplap wall that can be opened up later if we decide to do something with the fireplace later. We are also going to use a reclaimed chippy mantel that we had in the dining room previously over the fireplace. The plan for over the pink marble on the floor? Some marble tile will be the answer to that. So far we have the shiplap done over the fireplace which was the first step in the makeover…
The front living room before we started working on it…
Here is what the fireplace looked like after I ripped into the wall & before we put the shiplap up….
The plan…
The progress…
We used the shiplap that was leftover from the dining room on the top of the fireplace & it covered up the hole in the wall. It still has to be painted, but the progress already looks great! So we have to spray paint the metal area around the fire place [more on that later], tile the floor marble, paint the shiplap area, close in the mantel area & attach the mantel to the wall. It’s almost looking normal up in here guys! We’ve made a ton of progress on the front living room & I can’t wait to share it all with you. Hopefully after this weekend I will have a lot more updates for you guys. For now you can follow me on Facebook & Instagram for more behind the scenes of our fixerupper progress. Thank you guys for stopping by the blog today to see what we are up to! xx
