So, now that we live on this farm I’ve noticed a few things. Well, let’s face it, I’ve noticed a lot of new things & have learned so much in this short year we have lived here, but one of the things I’ve noticed is we do a lot of little projects that aren’t significant & they go unnoticed & un-blogged. Well, I wanted to start documenting all of those tiny changes here on the blog because it is the little things that make a big difference… so expect a DIY weekend recap most weeks because a lot of little things happen on the weekends here on White Cottage Farm in between weekend fun. So here is a small recap of this past weekend here on the farm & some little things we did….
I had these windows lying around since our last house & never really did anything with them. They were kind of messy & painted an unflattering type of taupe so this weekend I gave them a quick coat of white paint. & put them on the two cabinets in the dining room flank the archway that lead into the front living room. I feel like these really bring this space together by bringing a cohesive feeling to this space.
The garden is finally coming together! I mean it’s still kind of just an idea that looks like a big mess, but you can picture it right? Oh man, if you don’t follow my Instagram stories you haven’t seen this all go down, but we have been working tirelessly on getting the garden up and running. Not so much the planting, but the building of the fence & getting it prepped to use. Here is just a sneak peek at the garden, but hopefully it will be looking better soon & I’ll be blogging it when it’s up and running!
I finally replaced the slipcover on our Ikea slipcover with a custom one that I will be blogging later this week. It’s so fresh & so clean! I also freshened up the pillows & made this little area of our house clean. As you all know our whole home is in fixer-upper mode so it’s so nice to have tiny little pockets of the house that are looking presentable & allow us to have a spot to relax. Again, I’ll be blogging this space more later this week.
We moved into our new kitchen island this weekend. I mean, the rest of the kitchen is in shambles, but the island is pretty right? You can read more about the island [HERE] & where we got it from. I’m obsessed with this little island & can’t wait to work on the rest of the kitchen!! This island was a great weekend surprise for sure!
On Friday they finished our floors up in the front living room, dining room, & back guest bedroom. I mean by finished, they are installed, but it will be a while until we decide on how we want to finish them. It’s the hardest decision we have ever made.. I’m being dramatic, but really… it’s hard! You can read more about our floors [HERE] & I will also be blogging stain & color samples later this week.
I ordered some lemon items months ago from Amazon to freshen up our dining room for summer.. & guess what I didn’t realize that I ordered them from out of the country so I have been patiently waiting for it all to come in… for now we have a few lemony items in the dining room & I don’t hate it. Here is a tiny glimpse at what has come in so far… hopefully I’ll blog the lemon dining room soon if I ever get the rest of the decor in.
So there is a tiny glimpse at our DIY weekend recap… It’s hard to share it all, but hopefully this new recap series will help a tiny bit in giving you a glimpse at what we are up to & give you another perspective on our life here on the farm. Thank you guys so much for stopping by the blog daily & for following our journey… we appreciate it so much! xx
Loooooooooove your kitchen island and the new floors so much. Can’t wait to see the rest to come !
Everything looks so pretty! I lost track of you all about a year or so ago before your move back to Michigan, I am so glad I was able to fall back into your blog again! The entryway, with the curved arch is so dreamy, I can’t wait to see your new additions to the rooms. Also I am loving the hints of colors with the pillows and curtains. Ya’ll are doing a wonderful job. You are truly living and embracing the Farmhouse life we all dream about.
It’s hard to picture your house in a shambles! Every picture of your home feels so warm and inviting.
And you aren’t messing around with your garden! It’s HUGE and the entry gate ? Have fun – my garden is one of my happy places.
Liz, love, love, love your farmhouse. Can you share where you got your rugs in the living rooms? The natural one and chunky cream one?
You said you used the Pottery Barn Flax Linen Drapes. Are they lined? Because when I met with the Design Specialist and viewed the swatches, I was concerned that the lined would be too stiff and not allow some light in.
Everything looks great… especially your dog who looks exactly like our dog, Yankee. I kid you not!
