I shared our porch gazebo refresh the other day [HERE] & I just kind of quickly went over how we gave the space a refresh. Well, today I wanted to pop on here and share some of my tips for making your outdoor space the perfectly styled cozy farmhouse outdoor getaway. I tried to take photos on a better day with brighter prettier light, but wind and clouds was all I had so please excuse the poor lighting.. I know you guys will get the idea! Here are 6 quick tips on how to create a cozy farmhouse style porch…
1. Color Palette.
It doesn’t have to be neutral, but it just has to be pleasing to the eye. Try a neutral pallet with pops of color & pattern, but have it flow well together so that the space has a relaxing vibe to it. Some of my favorites… whites with pops of navy & black, Neutral tones with pops of mint & wood, pops of boxwood greens, blacks, & sophisticated neutrals… Just the beginning of the endless options you have.
For patio furniture I love, actually for furniture in every room & space of our home, I love mixing new pieces of furniture with vintage pieces & handmade. That combo of vintage chippy furniture with new pieces really adds a lot of depth & the eclectic look gives tons of farmhouse charm. Now, I’m only showing your our gazebo part of our porch because let’s face it, the rest of the porch isn’t “done”, but porch swings, dining tables, & other pieces of furniture are a great way to add a true farmhouse feel to your outdoor space.
3. Add cushions.
The cushions & the pillows completely make an outdoor space cozy. I always go overboard & no on is mad about it. I love adding tons of pillows even in my outdoor spaces which make the porch look like the perfect farmhouse nook. I shared [HERE] how to waterproof all your outdoor pillows. I chose a collection of pillows from Homegoods & vintage fabric pillows & all I do is follow my tips in the above blog post to make them all weatherproof for our porch.
4. Texture. Lots of it.
Rugs, blankets, pillows, wood, plants, candles, light fixtures, & beyond. All that beautiful texture really makes a space super cozy & inviting. I chose to anchor this space with a large natural fiber rug & from there I added lots of pillows with different textures, baskets, wood furniture, chippy pieces, glass, candles, & tons of other different textures that make the space super cozy.
Lighting is where I like to add the drama. I love adding a large chandelier to spaces or one that adds a big statement. I feel like a light fixture can make any space cozy & bring all the decor together. Besides light fixtures, candles are a great way to add cozy charm to your outdoor spaces & as a bonus you can get citronella candles to add a glow & fight off the bugs.
6. All the greens.
Greenery. Yes. It’s something every outdoor space needs. I actually chose to do a mix of faux & real. The greenery in the vintage toolbox is faux & everything else is real. Even the little lime tree on the coffee table. Greenery is really going to make the space pop & really make the entire thing look complete. Greenery, florals, stems, topiaries, and so much more… add it all! Honestly I kind of just threw this space together & was super lucky to have it be surrounded by greenery already.. thank you nature!
So, there you have it… how to get a perfectly styled cozy outdoor area. I truly hope these quick tips will help you style your spaces this spring & summer & I hope you all take the time to enjoy the great outdoors relaxing with your family. I am trying to enjoy this space every single day for at least 20 minutes… it’s good for the soul!
