It’s another DIY weekend recap here on the blog! I don’t blog all weekend so I like to catch you guys up a little here on Mondays. This weekend was kind of an odd one because we did more DIY projects at our last house than our current home. That’s right we were at our old house better known as Cottage On Tyler. If you don’t know we had rented it out for the past year & it has come time in our life to sell it. We are of course sad to say goodbye to this house, but we know there is another family that will enjoy it as much as we have. I’ll be sure to post the listing later when it goes live, but for now the house is in Jenison Michigan & should go live sometime today. We had a TON of work to do in the house before we could put it on the market including painting, patching holes, cleaning, & doing some minor repairs. Here is a little glimpse at the house all empty now ready for some new owners…
These were all progress shots as we worked on the house… I can’t believe how empty it looks! While we were here I totally missed this house and all the awesome memories. I missed how cozy it was & just the feel of it. It was fun to spend a few days here with Jose fixing it up even though it was a lot of hard work. You can see what the house looked like when we lived in it [HERE]. That took up a majority of our weekend, but we also did some things at our farmhouse as well. I cleaned up our entryway & now it feels all fresh again. For weeks we had our bathroom sink & some other boxes & things sitting up here so I’m thankful to have that all gone & out of the way. I can’t tell you how many times I tripped over that sink….
Speaking of sink. We got the sink hung in our entryway bathroom & so we were able to do a ton of DIY projects in there this weekend including trimming it out, painting the beadboard, & doing some other not so fun parts. We are almost to the decor part & I can’t wait!
I forgot to tell you guys that a few weeks ago I found this awesome antique store counter at our store that was brought in by someone else… well I just had to have it. I knew I wanted it as a sofa table in our front living room. I just didn’t know how much work it was really going to be. I’ll be blogging it later when we get it all finished, but let’s just say we had to take this piece all apart [saw it in parts] & then put it back together again. I’m busy painting it now & will be blogging the finished product very soon.
I simplified up our dining room from the crazy hydrangea centerpiece that I blogged last week [HERE]. I spent time just making it practical for now with plates, silverware, & of course one of my favorite rosemary plants, but of course the dogs decided they wanted to sit on the table. They never do that, but I caught them in the act. I think that’s one of the main things I did around the farm this weekend was simplify a lot of things & that felt great. Anyways, I shared on my Instagram a little tip today that basically was to shop your own home for decor before you buy new. It’s a cheap [free] way to update your space & make it feel fresh again. That’s what I did here & I love how it ended up!
& finally in the office this weekend we made a tiny bit of progress. I found a rug at Home Goods. I thought I had ordered one from Rugs USA, but it was taking way too long that I think either my order got messed up or I messed something up.. I need to looking into that. I found this gorgeous 8×10 rug for super cheap and fell in love so here we are. I also found a chandelier at World Market & spray painted it a deeper black so it’s ready to hang now [hint hint Jose] Just kidding I really need to get over my fear of hanging lights. I’ll share more office updates later this week, but for now.. it’s coming along!
This weekend was beautiful here in Michigan & we fully took advantage of the cooler weather by having the windows open in the farmhouse and letting the breeze blow in. Life has been a little hectic lately, but being home on the farm, even though it’s a lot of work, feels like our own little slice of heaven where we escape from the world & that is such a dream come true. Thank you guys for stopping by today to see what we were up to this weekend at White Cottage Farm. Be sure to follow me on Instagram & Facebook for more behind the scenes.
Fun to see your office coming together…looks great!
You have given me so much inspiration that I am going to start painting the woodwork in our 60’s ranch. I want to use a white semi-gloss. Any suggestions on paint and prep work? I look forward to your blog everyday!!!! Thank you for sharing your family and life.
Amazingly impressive working skills. Some of the best I’ve ever seen. but I love wood working furniture. Thanks for your post.

What did you end up doing on your floors that look like raw wood?
