Ok. I’m going to try to sum this up for you guys today because I know so many of you are interested in our new journey with the homeopathic doctor & also have been following along with our fertility journey over the past 5 years. I’m not a doctor by any means and even after spending week after week in doctors offices & hospitals, I still struggle with explaining these things & even fully understanding. This new journey of of seeing a homeopathic doctor has been a very rewarding and healing process so far & I haven’t even gotten fully into it yet, but we did start off with a bang by doing a ton of testing which I was hoping and praying would give us some answers as to why we have had six miscarriages and six years of infertility….
The testing was for full vitamin panels, hormone levels, thyroid panels, & so much more. I anxiously went in to give tons of viles of blood one morning that now has become a new routine for me over the past few years & waited a few weeks to get the results. Those weeks were a little grueling because I was so curious & so excited that we may find something wrong with me that we could work on fixing in order to allow my body to carry a healthy pregnancy. Now, for those of you who are thinking that we didn’t have testing done before… we did! Tons of tests. We did all of these tests plus more including chromosome testing on both of us & so much more when we lived in North Carolina, but those tests all came back super “normal” & we did find some mistakes that were made with previous doctors & these tests we did now were done correctly & more customized to my specific issues. After weeks of waiting for the results my appointment day finally showed up & again I anxiously went into the doctors thinking I was about to get some life changing news.
Well, then I got the disappointing news. I was pretty much normal. Well, for the major stuff at least. Like my thyroid & most of the other things. BUT we did find some underlying issues that could very well be contributing factors to all of my fertility issues. While my Testosterone & my Estrogen levels were normal, my progesterone was super super low & that is a huge factor in getting pregnant & carrying a pregnancy. I was also super super low on some major vitamins as well like D, B, & some others. So, we came up with a game plan. The amazing thing about a naturopathic doctor is a natural approach on making you well from within & not just masking everything with pharmaceutical drugs. With a heavy vitamin & supplement regimen, healthy eating, different life choices, & more we are trying to get me on track to having a normal functioning body. We of course will probably go into some deeper testing as well, but I will explain that in a later post.
It might seem weird to say that I was disappointed that we didn’t get the news that something was majorly wrong with me, but look at it from my perspective of being so “normal” yet having this unexplained fertility issue that is holding us back from having kids here on this earth & has caused us to loose 7 babies. It’s so hard to comprehend that & having a “reason” would make it so much easier. Even though we did get a couple reasons that could be underlying issues, having a bigger fixable issue might have been a “quicker fix”. There are so many fixable issues out there that are solved with little effort & allow people to go on to have healthy pregnancies. In the end I hope this plan we are on now fixes my hormone issue & that it is our “fix” to go on to have some healthy babies.
In conclusion to this rambling post.. I’m a little sad, a little disappointed, & a little discouraged that we don’t have a big answer, but I’m also hopeful that this new plan will fix a lot of things. If you guys are interested I can share my vitamin regimen & the process we are taking to regulate my hormone issues. It’s quite interesting the process that this doctor is taking & the natural approach we are on. If y’all are at all interested let me know in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram. I want to let you guys know that I’m so thankful that you allow me to share this fertility journey with you. Thank you for praying for us, cheering us on, asking questions, encouraging us, & for allowing this to be a safe place for us to share our hearts, fears, worries, & hope. Thank you. You can read more about our fertility journey [HERE]. xx
Sounds like you are on the right track. There is a guy on Facebook, named Morley, that has the Magnesium Advocacy group. Not sure if the group’s info. would be of benefit to you, but it may be something that goes along with what you are doing.
We recently had our rainbow baby after 3 miscarriages. After tons of testing and meeting with a high risk doctor we finally got progesterone suppositories and it did the trick. I hope that you get some answers. Praying for your rainbow baby!
I know you working with a naturopath which is great but please check out site called knowthecause.com . He is a Christian and has helped many people who have fertility issues naturally based on fungal issues in the body.
You have no idea how familiar this sounds. With my two successful pregnancies I was on progesterone from the day of conception, Vitamin D, & Vitamin B; as well as Thyroid and blood pressure meds. Once I got to a certain point in the pregnancies I was not only on Makena injections weekly (the same as p17 shots) I was also on a VS called Crinone 8%. I had to fight the insurance with my oldest because they did not want to cover the medications thankfully my Dr. went to bat for me and we got everything approved. I stopped the injections and Crinone 8 days before my oldest was born. There is no doubt in my mind that those medications allowed me to carry her as long as I did, even if she was 6 weeks early. With my 2nd I didn’t stop the injections and Crinone until the week he was born, also early but only 2 days before my scheduled c-section and made it to term. If you have any questions you know where I am!
Do you mind me asking the cost?
Your journey almost mimics mine, except that I only had a few miscarriages in the 8 years of my infertility. I was prescribed Vitamin B12, Vitamin D3 and I took about 5 months of Clomid and Pergonal shots in my hip. That was 24 years ago. Today I am blessed with my 23 yr old son. They did not do ultrasounds back in my day, can you believe it? It was at the time that docs thought they were being overused and they backed off on using them only for the most necessary of pregnancies. I wound up delivering about 5 weeks early as it turned out I had a heart-shaped uterus.
I am really curious about this regimen! 7 years of infertility and 1 miscarriage and I’m “normal” yet some docs say I have PCOS. I don’t know who to believe anymore. Thanks for sharing!
Have been following your blog from the beginning, but not sure I’ve ever commented. The progesterone issue IS huge! We almost miscarried (tons of spotting) in the first part of my pregnancy because of low progesterone. Thankful to Jesus that my doctor was on it and immediately prescribed suppositories. Praying that this will be the answer you’ve been looking for! Psalm 91-15,16 He shall call on me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation. <3
That’s exactly what allowed me to carry. Natural progesteroneeither sublingual or suppositories as soon as you know you are pregnant. I took suppositories because the sublingual I was allergic to the cinnamon flavoring and had very painful canker sores all over my tongue. My son just graduated with his masters in Aerospace engineering.
Progesterone is an extremely important hormone! Finding that you have near nonexistent levels is huge. Make sure to also ingest lots of zinc. With all the B, D supplements make sure to take the pills and have your diet change to be high in them. The best way to get nutrients is through food. Good luck!!
Praying that God blesses you and Jose with babies soon! I know the pain.
Praying for you and Jose! And sending lots of love your way.
Love to hear more about the journey and regimen you will do
So glad you decided to take this route! We struggled with infertility for three years and the infertility doctors told me I was normal! We did everything except IVF. After months of dissapointment we also went to a homeoepathic doctor and found out I had low progesterone. I was put on natural supplements and had acupuncture done once a week. 6 weeks later I was pregnant for the first time ever! I attribute it to my homeopathic doctor and God’s timing! I have prayed for you during your infertility journey because I know how much of a lonely road that it can be. I look forward to hearing more about your new path in your journey!
I would be really interested to know what specific things have been suggested to you. I have been diagnosed with PCOS 6 years ago when our fertility journey started and currently going through my 2nd miscarriage. We went for our 11 week 5 day ultrasound last Thursday to receive the news that the baby no longer had a heart beat. We have done a lot of naturopath treatments to get this far in our journey but I know something is missing.
I’m beyond frustrated because once I got pregnant this time they just treated me as a normal patient, not looking into anything in depth and just wished me luck…. But I’m well aware I’m not normal and probably needed some time of supplement or progesterone to help us along.
Ps: I am from Southern Ontario Canada and my husband and I finally have a trip the end of September planned for The Found Cottage! I am so excited!
Oh I so love seeing all the comments below saying how this regime was what allowed them to get pregnant! So glad you’ve found a doctor who is looking at the full picture, and I really pray and hope this is the solution to adding some little ones to your family!
Would love to hear the regimen your on…lots of years getting my progesterone levels right. Sending prayers your way!!
Would love to hear about your regimen. I too went through 3 years of infertility and had to be on progesterone as soon as I found out I was pregnant with my daughter because I had low progesterone. I lost my first pregnancy due to low progesterone. My daughter is now 2.5 and the best thing in my life. I am praying for you and Jose and that you have finally gotten the regimen that works!
My progrestrone was really low and I was at risk of miscarrying when my MIL gave me some progresence plus from young living. It’s a all natural oil that I put on my neck. Within a couple of days my level went from 9 to 13.
I just wanted to say that I can understand your pain and I’m so sorry you are going through another miscarriage. I also have PCOS (was diagnosed in college when I’d go months and months without a period) and struggled through years of infertility. I am very blessed to have 2 children now, but have had 4 miscarriages over those years. My body has always had hormone imbalances and being on metformin really seemed to make a difference for me. It allowed my body to utilize insulin better, which then helps stabilize other hormones and cell processes, and eventually helped with egg quality. Everytime I had a miscarriage I was not on metformin, and with both of my children I had been on metformin for months leading up to it. My progesterone would always come back normal when they checked so that didn’t seem to be the issue. I did have preterm labor issues with both, my body just didn’t want to stay pregnant. I know how hard it is to go through this journey but keep your head and hopes up, and for me, keeping my eyes on the Lord for complete strength was the only way to endure it all. Blessings to you!
A grandma here, who shared your journey with my daughter (infertility issues) – and she now has a homeopathic doc who also identified her near-non-existent progesterone levels. Thankful every day to you and Jose and Grace (and Gary and Chuck, I named them myself) for your willingness to open your lives to serve others.
Praying for you both that by addressing these issues, a healthy pregnancy will occur.
Liz,
While I can’t say I have shared in the pain of infertility, I can only encourage you that nothing is “wrong” with you. You were created exactly how God intended! He doesn’t make any mistakes:) After all, we are daughters of the King!!
I can only imagine the heartache you are going through and want to let you know that I am praying for you. For peace, for healing and for all of us to accept the things we don’t understand. Those are the hardest. I, like you, find comfort when I have a reason for something unexplainable in my life, especially one that causes so much pain. But I am on the journey with you to not ask “Why?” but instead ask “Who?” Who loves us unconditionally, counts all of our tears, and grieves right along side of us?
Thank you for the courage you show us in your blog, and for sharing the beauty you see in this world. You are a light in a dark world, keep shining!!
This information is impressive; I am inspired with your post writing style & how continuously you describe this topic.
On one hand, I’m sure you’ve heard it all. On the other, I know what it means to search for a fix to a problem. So, I offer this suggestion, even if you’ve heard it a million times, on the off chance you haven’t. Better safe than sorry. Have you had your uterus imaged? Are you familiar with what is known as a heart shaped uterus? I pray that is not the answer, but have not read you mention that. I absolutely know what it feels like to desire to be a mama, and hope God shows a way to you.
Gosh, I am all too familiar with that feeling you are experiencing. I had amenorrhea which is absence of periods my whole life. The number of people who would say oh my gosh you are so so lucky not to have periods every month just didn’t get it. I’m not lucky I wasn’t blessed with that. I was sick. I couldn’t have a baby. It wasn’t normal. With the two procedures I had that did result in an egg allowing me to get pregnant only ended in miscarriage. Not lucky. Sad.
I just started seeing a naturopath last week as well for my overall health but infertility in particular. I look “normal” as well besides my prolactin being elevated (telling my body I’m breastfeeding so I shouldn’t get pregnant again!). Still waiting back for the adrenal glands test results but I completely agree with you about how nice it is working with a naturopath for level your body out instead of masking things. Praying for you!
I miscarried my first pregnancy. My second pregnancy, my 20 year old daughter, I was in high risk of losing. My dr prescribed pill form of progesterone and when that wasn’t enough I had a weekly shot, 6-12 weeks. My son three years later, I didn’t need any intervention. Good luck!!
It is good to find something that can be done. I am praying for you and know God loves you and it will happen.
I’m so hopeful for you! Having unexplained issues is the worst! (I’m hypothyroid and with medication I’m “normal” but I’m still experiencing issues – definitely not the same thing you are going through and I’m most definitely not trying to compare/compete… but I get your frustration at being told there’s nothing wrong…) Praying that this regimen works for you!
Low Vitamin d was what I think caused all my fertility issues. (I stopped counting miscarriages at 6). We have a lovely little boy and think of him as our miracle baby. I had lots of early contractions forever and found a magnesium supplement, called natural calm, that really helped. I still take it daily and it helps reduce period cramps too. My other good friend also found she had the messed up mthfr gene. With precursors to folic acid her fertility issues disappeared. God bless you in your journey!
I’m so sorry. I, too, was “unexplained infertility” and it’s the most frustrating phrase you can use. I also found that when you tell people you’re unexplained they tend to rely on the old cliches of “well maybe you’re just stressed out”. Thankfully after 3 years I found a Dr that I love and I’m on the right path and it sounds like you are too. Good luck, baby dust, and God Bless you and your journey.
I had only read a short amount of this post when I thought your problem was likely low progesterone. From what I understand it’s fairly “common” so Im surprised this issue was just discovered. I’m sorry you’ve experienced souch loss and I pray you have now found your answe and will be holding your own child soon.
Yes, me too! After 4 miscarriages and oodles of testing, I took progesterone suppositories and had a successful pregnancy. My miracle is now 13 years old!
I join with others in praying that you will have the blessing you so fervently desire. My dear sister fought a battle in which she lost eight babies, but eventually ended up with five wonderful children. Progesterone was also the main issue for her; this was a couple of decades ago, but the doctor also had her take a baby aspirin a day when she became pregnant because they believed her body was clotting off the placenta in the early stages of implantation. You might ask your doctor if that is something to consider. Thank you for sharing your journey. Your blog and instagram stories are delightful.
Wanted to give you an encouraging comment: during my last pregnancy I found myself spotting and cramping and was terrified I was losing the baby. I was About 9 weeks along. I called my doctor’s office. They basically said it happens and to wait and let nature take its course. Having had one other miscarriage that leveled me emotionally, I was terrified! My sweet husband searched and searched until he found an alternative. Long story short–with some blood work they found I was low on progesterone. It was an easy fix. I too li a supplement. Had weekly blood work to test levels to check and adjust. We consider that baby my miracle, and he’ll be ten Monday!
I asked the nurse during all this why on earth “normal” doctors didn’t do this simple test and fix. She basically said that they are taught to let nature weed out the “unhealthy” babies in the first trimester. By the way, this kiddo of mine is perfectly healthy and is rarely even sick with a cold!
Good luck and God bless!
Please don’t be discouraged! I have a friend with 6 miscarriages…we were all so sad! It turned out she had low progesterone! It was a simple fix! I hope this is true for y’all, too! Praying!!! ?
Praying for you all!❤️
It is so wonderful that you’re sharing this news on your infertility journey. I echo the other responses that progesterone is huge for pregnancy. I personally had issues with vitamin D. Just a slight deficiency is what turned out to be our fertility roadblock. I started taking supplements and got pregnant my next cycle. So smart of you to seek out a naturopath. Have you heard about cutting sugar and starch from your diet as well? You should check out Courtney Spena’s blog A Plus Life. She has shared her fertility struggles and also worked with a naturopath with success. Lastly, try acupuncture if you haven’t. I don’t know if it helped us conceive, but it was immensely helpful for my mental wellbeing. I wish you all the best! You deserve the family of your dreams.
i struggle with infertility and my fertility doctor had me on progesterone cream (once I did get pregnant) until i was in to my 5th month. low progesterone is A HUGE factor with tons of women. My aunt 40+ years ago kept miscarrying and that is the one thing they gave her–progesterone–and she then was able to carry to term 4 babies. She just had to have progesterone each pregnancy. Good luck honey. I know how this journey feels. Praying for you all!
Don’t be discouraged! My daughter-in-law had a miscarriage at about 5-6 weeks with her first pregnancy. Everything was normal was what she was told. So the next pregnancy, she started to spot at 5-6 weeks. When she called I told her to contact her doctor immediately and demand to be seen. She should not have been spotting during both pregnancies at the very same weeks. They did check her and did bloodwork. The results were low progesterone and some vitamin deficiencies! She got a progesterone shot every week until she was more than 10 weeks. She took the recommended vitamins. The baby was born healthy and full term. The doctors now know to watch her and check the progesterone in her next pregnancy. I am so glad that your doctors are finally discovering that there are some ways to help you!
I am so sorry that the news was not what you wanted it to be; but, thankful that nothing seriously is wrong with your body. I am interested in what you will be doing to balance your hormones. Please share this with me. I wa just put on progesterone and an estradiol patch.
Please don’t get discouraged I think that you were on the right path I’m all about the holistic way and not the pharmaceutical way. I have a wonderful feeling this is going to be an amazing turnaround for you I wish you nothing but the best you are an amazing person you have an amazing life and good things are coming your way. Thank you for being so open and honest about your life. And again I just love all the sheep videos it makes my day if I had a farm I would be doing the same thing thank you so so much for sharing ❤️I’m keeping you in my thoughts and prays ?
I’m all too familiar with the disappointment of not having anything wrong with you. I also had unexplained infertility. Six years of ttc we went the ivf route as I felt my clock ticking 5 rounds got pregnant on that 5 transfer but miscarried at 6 weeks. I took progesterone with every transfer which everyone does with ivf at least at my clinic but that last transfer I added a baby aspirin. I had done everything including genetic testing on our embryos everything came back normal I had 1 blood test left to check for clotting disorders and if that was normal my Dr was saying surrogacy would be my only option. I gave up for like a week threw myself a pity party decided that’s not me I don’t ever give up read a book called the infertility cure which goes along the naturopathic line. Started charting and ovulation strips did them all wrong in the meantime I was testing out my hcg from my miscarriage got it down to 10 but I was still getting a faint positive line waited a week tested again to see no line and it was darker got another beta and it went up! Started progesterone and baby aspirin and my miracle baby turned 4 months old Monday! I dont know if it was the baby aspirin or what and I still can’t explain it. I saw someone else post about baby aspirin if you have not tried that before it’s worth asking about. From what I read and know from my clinic it’s a common thing to prescribe for people with recurring miscarriages. Praying for you and Jose! Stories of hope kept me going so I hope my story will help give you just a glimmer as sometimes that’s all it takes. Faith the size of a mustard seed! Btw I would love to hear your vitamin regimen and if you would ever have any questions for me let me know.
I’ve read through some of the comments and it seems like your heading down the right path. So many positive results going the homeopathic way! That’s exciting!! Praying for you and Jose and sending lots of love your way!! ?
Please share your vitamin regimen and what you end up doing to regulate your hormones!! I’m so glad you offered because I was hoping you’d tell and I would’ve felt uncomfortable asking otherwise. We started trying late, age 38, so I’ve always received what I call the baby doctor brush off because of that. At first it was, you have to give it a year or two. And then it was, you should consider other options(IVF etc.) after they had said we had to “wait it out a year or more”! Super frustrating. Anyhoo after all the testing being “normal”, except that I have low vitamin D and was just told to take supplements with a shrug of the shoulder, I’m finding there is probably so much more contributing to our problem like candida so I’ve totally changed my diet etc and am starting to feel better in general. I’d love to know what you end up doing just to have more info on getting my body healthier regardless of getting pregnant. We’ve decided not to try IVF just one time and trust in God’s plan 🙂 kids or no kids. I’ll keep praying for you guys! And look forward to the new sheep names 😉
Your story is similar to mine. After two.miscarriages, my doctor has me taking oral progesterone, and a special kind of folate & b12. I would really like to learn more about your vitamin regimen. I would love to work with a naturopath, but the cost is prohibitive for us.
Progessence plus from the Young Living company is an essential oil made with plant based progesterone derived from yams that has many a woman surprised. I was. I know many women have chemicals from everyday products that mimic progesterone in our bodies so we don’t store the amount we should because our bodies think they have enough when actually they are starving for it. Progessence plus is a way to raise progesterone levels. I was sure someone would mention it. I was so shocked what it did for my symptoms I didn’t want to not mention it. This journey you are on is not a simple one and I don’t mean to oversimplify it, I just would be remiss to not mention something that may support your journey.
Sending thoughts, prayers & blessings your way. God bless you & Jose throughout your journey!
I was diagnosed with positive ANA (anti-nuclear antibodies) & low progesterone levels after my 2nd miscarriage. I could get pregnant like nobody’s business but I couldn’t stay that way—miscarrying at 8 & 16 weeks. During my 3rd pregnancy, I was prescribed progesterone (Progesterol) suppositories used up until 20 weeks & a daily Baby Aspirin throughout my pregnancy’s duration. My pregnancy was successful blessing me with my son who just turned 16.
Thank you for the update. I have been wondering how your blood work turned out. I have been praying for you. I believe wholeheartedly in a holistic doctor and you’re on the right path.. Sometimes it takes a while to undo the things that we’ve done to our bodies with poor eating habits or whatever, but you are still young so that’s to your advantage. I’m sure your holistic doctor talked to you about using natural cleaning products right? You want to eliminate toxic chemicals as much as possible. Maybe you are already doing that.
We just recently watched the movie Facing The Giants, for the hundredth time!!! Not really but we have watched it a lot. That movie speaks to me every time I watch it. I love the part where Mr. Bridges has a word from God to the Coach from the book of Rev. chp 3. “What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 8 I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.” Here is the clip from the movie… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAxwS8KyMQQ The part that I miss so many times is the part about preparing my fields for the rain. I pray and pray but I need to remember to act upon it and patiently wait for it to happen. I just wanted to share this with you because it means so much to me.
When I first read of your struggles, I heard a song from Jeremy Camp called My Defender. It made me think of you. If you like contemporary Christian music, and haven’t heard it, listen to it.
I will continue to pray for you & Jose and know that this is in God’s hands and His timing is perfect!
Hugs to you!
Progesterone can be a big key to fixing the problem. I lost 4 babies before they figured this out for me. Progesterone therapy needs to be started right away, and your levels need to be tested quite frequently. I did suppositories and injections, and now have two wonderful daughters.
I’m sure this was part of your testing at some point but have you been tested for Celiac Disease? It has over 250 potential symptoms and one is infertility (along with vitamin deficiency and hormone problems). It took 9 months of testing and doctors and serious illness for me to be diagnosed. It’s a simple blood test if you haven’t had it done. Prayers for your journey!
I will pray for you as I know what you are feeling. I had to have allergy testing as well, I cut out many foods that were inflammatory and all dairy except goat and sheep milk. That was huge for me. I hope this may help you. I spent my pregnancy in bed for 9 months that was 34 years ago. Prayers that you continue to move forward with progress.
I’m happy that you’ve seemed to have found a great doctor. I have a relative who just miscarried (but had a successful first pregnancy) and her blood results from a recent test showed a huge deficiency in Vitamind D also. So I found it interesting that you listed that too. So she too is on a big vitamin regimend. Waiting to hear what you name your two new sheep — ok it felt so silly writing that last sentence, but I am lol.
I had a 18 week loss and when I got pregnant again my doctor did the same! I took progesterone until my second trimester was over and a baby aspirin! Some old doctor tricks I swear.. best of luck ??
I also had unexplained infertility for years. I finally found a functional medicine doctor who wouldn’t give up and took the effort to dig deeper! He found that my progesterone was too low… but he also found the REASON! Underlying my low progesterone was stage 3 Adrenal Fatigue. He was able to confirm that with a simple 24 hour, 4 vials, saliva cortisol test. My cortisol levels were all wrong. My poor adrenal glands were so messed up and worn out that they couldn’t make enough cortisol… so what do they do? They stop making progesterone and other hormones in an attempt to focus all resources on making cortisol. But I still didn’t have enough. He put me on progesterone as well as other things to help my adrenal glands to recover, and I slowly made progress! I am now 30 weeks pregnant. I’m so thankful for a doctor who was willing to do what it took to get to the bottom of it! God has blessed us so much through him! Whether your reason for low progesterone is similar, or not, I pray you can find it and start healing, and that God gives you that baby you long for here on earth.
Your blog and these comments give me hope. It’s comforting knowing I’m not the only one who tests “normal” but has fertility issues.
I had two miscarriages and then did some testing and realized my progesterone was low. Once that was solved and I got pregnant rather quickly with my daughter, Luella. I started on progesterone right when I took the positive pregnancy test! A year after Luella, Harrison arrived!!
Thinking of you!!
Liz my journey too led to low progesterone. I was put on progesterone suppositories and 2 months later I was pregnant. My healthy baby is now 25 years old. Though I was told that I would have to use the same medication for any further pregnancies, I subsequently had 3 other children 24, 18 and 17 naturally.
I know these are dark and disappointing days but know you will be a mom one day. It’s all in Gods timing for you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all going threw this journey.
I can’t imagine the loss and hopelessness such a journey through infertility has brought you, but you are so strong despite all of it!
I’m not sure if you are familiar (probably! But I didn’t want to pass by just in case!) NaPro technology/infertility treatment is much like your naturopathic method, but also uses charting and fertility signals to identify underlying factors causing infertility-it could definitely be something to use alongside the info you are getting now! NaPro drs are concerned with finding the causes and fixing them instead of masking/fixing symptoms. And progesterone is a “fix” I’ve heard many times, so while it doesn’t seem “big” for you, it might be the missing key for you! Many prayers for your journey and your sweet family in heaven and earth!
You and Jose will be in my prayers as is my daughter and son-in-law ?? My daughter is having fertility problems also and is now being seen by a fertility specialist but still not pregnant! So the best thing I can do for her and you is to keep praying???? ?! And let her know about the vitamins if you could email them to me I would appreciate it! Thank you
Sweet friend,
Have you been tested for adrenal fatigue and MTHFR? Both of those things can cause low progesterone and miscarriages. I’ve been struggling with my hormones the last few years as well, and being testing for those two things has given me the answers I have needed to get my body on the right track. Best of luck to you on your journey!
Hi, I have been following your blog and love it! I too, struggled with several miscarriages, and progesterone was the answer! My doctor put me on the most natural form of progesterone, and it worked. He said the suppositories worked better than the tablets you take by mouth. I now have 3 children and so thankful that progesterone was the simple answer.
I find this all very fascinating, and definitely would be interested in seeing your regimen once you’ve got it all sorted out. I think many people are deficient on Vitamin D these days. We are so trained to put on sunscreen when we’ll be outside for a while (which is a good thing!) but obviously we all spend a lot of time inside. My RE just posted a link the other day to a study about B3, have you seen it? Apparently it can play a huge factor in preventing miscarriages! Here’s the link they shared: https://www.smh.com.au/national/health/breakthrough-discovery-finds-cause-and-affordable-cure-for-miscarriage-multiple-births-defects-victor-chang-institute-scientists-announce-20170809-gxsq6k.html
I assume that your previous Dr’s did progesterone tests when you were pregnant before. Did you ever need supplements at that time? I’m surprised it’s not something they caught earlier!
I completely understand how you feel about almost wishing that they found some big reason or “issue,” so that it could be corrected. Unexplained infertility is a struggle. I have felt the same way in this process, too. When there is nothing obvious for them to fix, it just makes it harder to find answers. This journey is not for the faint of heart. Sending you love and hope for success in the near future with your new plan!
I can completely relate to the feeling of being disappointed there wasn’t “more wrong”, in a way, or a least some big obvious thing that has a name and is easy to fix! We had to wait like a year (because of money) several years ago to be able to get all the lab tests done that I needed for unexplained infertility and when we finally got them done and the results came back I expected to feel so much relief. I did, in a way, but it just wasn’t like oh yeah, you have ABC and we can do this easy fix. They did find out I was low in progesterone also, low in vitamin D and that I had MTHFR. So we have been working on those! But I do understand that feeling, and I’m sorry! My supplement regimen has helped A LOT with other things like anxiety and feeling better overall, so I hope yours help you too! I have a feeling that it has helped my fertility too, but won’t know for sure until we start trying again which we are taking a break from for a bit. Always praying for you and hoping you find all the right answers!! I know it is such a long and exhausting journey.
Hi. It took us over 8 years to have our son. We went though a lot of testing and treatments. I have an identical twin and she was going to step in and help me when I found out I was pregnant after 6 years of trying. I was put on progesterone. I was never told I was low on progesterone but doctor suggested I take it. We had a sonogram at 8 weeks and everything was fine. I started spotting at 12 weeks and we found out we had lost our baby at 9 weeks. I tried getting pregnant again and was unsuccessful so I believed I needed to be put on it to become pregnant. I was told I needed blood tests first. After waiting and more blood tests I finally called and asked to talk to my doctor. I told him I thought I should be put on progesterone right away and not wait until I got pregnant. He said okay lets try it. I got pregnant that month! After 8 years. We were thrilled. I remember they were little white pills with pink writing and they came from Wisconsin. Weird the things that stand out the most. That tiny little pill made us parents. My husband wanted a baseball team and I wanted 3. God sent us one and we couldn’t be happier. Logan in now in college and he is such a blessing. You have an army praying for you Liz. God’s army!
Hi Liz,
I recently had an unexpected surprise discovery, that answered many of my fertility questions from years ago. And believe it or not, the results came from a trip to the Dr. For a stiff neck!
Over the last several years, after my annual check-ups and blood work, I have been told, “your vitamin B and D levels are low.” And of course was told to up my intake of both vitamins. Which I did yet it didn’t seem to raise my levels. I am now 57 and a Grandma, so when I developed a sore, stiff neck, I attributed it to old age. After months of complaining, my husband (an Orthopedic Surgeon) said, “you either go find out what is going on or stop complaining”, which lead me to PT, dry-needling, an MRI, etc., etc.. All without answers or making the spasm in my neck go away. I finally ended up on the exam table of one of my husband’s partners, (who also has a wellness clinic) and she took a whole different approach to the problem. I was sent for blood work as she wanted to see if I had a MTHFR gene mutation. This Dr. Is also a friend and she started putting all the pieces of my history of fertility issues, many miscarriages, blood clots during pregnancy, low levels of B, D, progesterone and now muscle spasm that will not go away. The DNA test came back positive, showing a mutation of the MTHFR gene.
A MTHFR gene mutation affects the body’s ability to use folic acid or folate and causes higher homocysteine levels. All which can lead to fertility issues and miscarriages. An MTHFR mutation is a problem associated with poor methylation and enzyme production which affect every person differently. But in my case, and maybe yours as well, it may very well of been the cause of many miscarriages and my struggle with infertility. The good news is, if you do have this mutation, you can start to remedy part of this problem by taking a methylated vitamin B. My Dr./Naturopath/friend, instructed me to take a sub-lingual, “Xymogen or Thorne” brand of natural vitamin B. She sent me to Pharmaca with an instruction to get, “methyl cobalamin, 1000mcg per day, under your tongue” along with a “MTHF, 1 daily.” Both of these are something my body can actually absorb. She also added 10,000 units of vitamin D per day. And guess what? For the first time in years, my levels of B and D are normal.
I wish i would have known about this gene mutation years ago as it very well could have saved us from so many heartaches.
Have you had your MTHFR tested? It may help to know if you need to take a methylated form of vitamin B or not.
I love following your Instagram and you beautiful story. I believe Grace was lead into your life just to give you a glimpse as to what is coming your way. You will be well prepared for all of those around the clock feedings, smudged mirrors, and not being able to take your eye off of those little naughty ones!
Saying a prayer for you daily.
Did your new doctor say how long it would take to build your vitamin and other deficiencies up to an acceptable level? Is that how it works? I get what you’re saying about the disappointment but at least you have some more direction especially with the progesterone, right? Thanks for sharing your journey.
I know how it feels not to get the “life changing news” regarding why you had to lose your children. I’ve been there so I get it. I’d love to hear the nutritional plan you’ll be working on! I also have fertility issues and am always looking for ways that I can work on improving my reproductive health.
Thank you for the update. Praying for you guys!! ❤️
Would really love to hear what path the doctor has put you on! I am expecting results from some lab test today and am nervous but hopeful we can get some answers as well. Sending prayers and love your way!
I too suffered with fertility issues for 12 years. I only had one miscarriage but could never get pregnant. The doctors did the Clomid and the monthly shots all with no results. I too was normal, no real reason that I could not get pregnant. No one thought to check all the vitamins. We finally adopted our son and daughter ( son is now 31 and daughter is now 26). My children were gifts from God and were definitely our children who just came to us through another means. I want to say how important it is you get on a good vitamin regiment now. When I turned 55, I discovered I had uterine and thyroid cancer. Both caught early so I am okay. But I was very lacking in many vitamins. Vitamin D, potassium, vitamin B. I also have had breast cancer (it too was caught early) and I am okay. But the point of my comment is to let you know you are on the right track. Take those vitamins and continue the rest of your life. They are so important to your inner body health. Good luck and I am praying for you.
My husband and I have been struggling with infertility for almost three years now! We have been to multiple docs, had failed IUI’s, and tons of restating and nothing has worked! I would love to know some tips this doc is giving you and especially about vitamins! Praying for you and your husband in this time! You are truly inspiring!
My husband and I went through this valley for the first 6 years of our marriage in 1980…some very dark days! We miscarried multiple little ones. At last our gentle heavenly Father guided us to the realization that he wanted us to desire parenting over pregnancy. There are scriptures that reveal God’s heart for the orphan and sadly, we as Christ followers seem to set these aside and it breaks my family’s heart. We adopted 5 absolute treasures aged 31, 28, 27 and 17 year old twins. Two international and three U.S. adoptions and all joined us at 6 months or younger. They are lights to this world and model how blessing envelopes those who take His words to heart!
I enjoy your blog and your heart! He is our rock and fortress, our deliverer and we trust Him.
My heart goes out to you, Liz. I had my first miscarriage in May and it has been one of those experiences that rock your world. Through my infertility journey, I have learned that it is so important to find several great doctors who value your opinion and have a kind, but determined spirit. It sounds like your new homeopathic doctor is that very kind. I noticed that someone has already mentioned this, but I also want to reiterate how important it is to get checked out for the MTHFR gene mutation. Once I learned that I had 2 variations of the mutation, I started researching to see what it actually was and how it was effecting my life. I found out that there are a myriad of health conditions that are associated with it. Miscarriage and infertility are big ones, but it also effects energy levels, causes depression, and so much more. With this knowledge, I threw out my organic (what I thought were healthy) prenatals after reading the label and learning that they had the synthetic form of folate (folic acid) in them. I found a brand on Amazon actually that is organic, gluten free, etc that has all of the good stuff like true melthyl folate and loads of vitamin B and D. I have also been seeing an acupuncturist that has helped to level out my hormones and help me reduce my stress levels. I honestly went into my first appointment thinking that it was a bunch of voodoo nonsense, but I can tell you that it has made a world of difference in my well being, both mentally and physically! Please share your new regimen with us all and know that you are doing a wonderful thing by sharing your journey with the world!!
I would love to hear about what steps you’re taking to get healthy. I suffer from infertility as well and have been stamped as being “normal” yet can’t get pregnant on my own. I do know my vitamin d level is slightly low, but have been told everything else is fine. I have a feeling there’s a hormone imbalance but it hasn’t been confirmed by a doctor. Thank you for sharing your story, it’s comforting to know I’m not alone.
Oh Liz I can totally understand wanting “a bigger problem”. But this dr sounds like he is on the right path. It makes sense that baby needs a healthy body to grow in!! I pray you and Jose soon have a farm full of littles??????
Liz,
I never post comments, but hope this may be helpful to you or someone else struggling with the pain of infertility. Please have your doctor run the blood test for MTHFR. Most don’t. It can be a huge barrier for pregnancy. I have 5 babies in heaven. Two wonderful children here on earth. Please research it. They are just now finding out how badly this effects women.
I feel you completely about the part that they say you’re normal. I was too but never got pregnant. My story’s like Becky’s. We got our little miracle when he was 2 days old. He’s now 28!
I love following your blog and Instgram – you are so talented and inspiring. I’m in Michigan too. I too had a couple miscarriages before we found out that I had very low progesterone levels. My sister had the same and had 5 miscarriages. She and I both took progesterone the moment we knew we were pregnant and had babies. She had four and I have had 3. Good luck in this journey. I do believe that more information on low progesterone should be given from doctors. It was literally a life saver! **Hugs**
I feel your pain I to was infertile for 7 years. I had identical twins that I conceived naturally a daughter 2 years 8 months after the twins then a 7 year lapse between where I had infertility testing. I conceived my son now 17 after my husband had chemotherapy for liver cancer imagine that and then I had my youngest daughter at age 40 she is now 13. I read all the comments on your blog about hormone imbalance and I don’t recall my doctor mentioning this. All my kids were hard to get pregnant with and they all came early.
To make a long story short I had breast cancer probably well over a decade I had tumors that I didn’t know I had when I breast fed my youngest daughter. I learned that lawn chemicals mimic estrogen because when I opened the bag of granular weed killer I skipped my period for the first time in my life. Pesticides and lawn chemicals mimic estrogen I believe these chemicals all around us are contributing to the hormone imbalance causing not only cancer but infertility. My youngest daughter has type 1 diabetes diagnosed at age 10. Pesticides are also linked to diabetes. I am sorry to have to share this with you buy the truth is a double edged sword If I didn’t share this with you then you would not know what to avoid. Some of your pictures look like you may use these chemicals on your lawn.
My only words of advice to you are put all your trust in God I wasted so many days and years crying and mad that I didn’t get pregnant when I wanted to and now I take care of my daughter around the clock just as if she were a newborn. You never know what life holds just go with the flow and enjoy the day you have your decorating is gorgeous and to have a husband like yours who can do so much is a blessing. Wishing you all the best with Love.
I had 11 miscarriages and numerous tests, which all came back normal. I too was disappointed with this result, feeling that I needed to understand why it was happening to give me a chance of beating it. Drs kept telling me I was just unlucky! I live in the uk and eventually ended up being referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic at St Mary’s hospital in London. The specialists there were amazing. They redid all my blood tests and kept repeating them ever 2 weeks over several months. It transpired that my blood clotting tests were normal some of the time and sometimes slightly raised( the drs explained it as like a wave pattern ) this could potentially cause blood clotting around the placenta, meaning the baby wouldn’t develop. They put me on a course of low dose aspirin and I now have 2 gorgeous sons. I notice other posters mentioning baby aspirin – it might be worth exploring further. I really hope things work out for you and in the meantime concentrate on decorating your beautiful home – which is stunning!
Hi Liz,
I wanted to share my infertility journey with you as well, I also was diagnosed with low progesterone after miscarriage. I am also diagnosed with PCO, so for me Getting pregnant was just as difficult as staying pregnant. My infertility specialist at UCSF was fantastic in allowing me to research and make suggestions on my own, supporting any alternatives I was able to find. When I was finally able to become pregnant after my last miscarriage we knew immediately because we were constantly testing blood levels. Immediately after confirmation the pharmacists at UCSF concocted special progesterone suppositories. I inserted them vaginally twice daily to support the thickening of my uterine lining to help the baby become viable. For 4 months we used these and tested progesterone levels weekly. The result is now 19 years old and playing water polo in college ?? I also have a 13 year old and we used the same treatment. Never give up! Getting pregnant is half the battle, and you’ve won that one. Keep fighting until you win the war! Best wishes to you ❤️
Hi Liz! I have been following you for a while. We relate in so many ways, you are a huge inspiration to me. As I was reading this blog about homeopathic care and infertility I want to suggest a book for you. Health Revelations from Heaven and Earth. Check it out!
xoxo
I just wanted to say good luck in your journey. God does have a plan even though we may not always understand. I have had a lot of issues over the years. I was told at the age of 15 I could probably never have children. The doctor said a 10% possibility of getting pregnant and a 5% of being able to carry to term. Part of the reason I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome and endometriosis at the age of 13 the other was a near fatal car accident I was in at the age of 14. At the time it was a lot to take in since I knew one day I did want children. I met my husband at 18 and discussed the situation. Right after we were ingaged I found out I was pregnant however shortly after I miscarried. As we were planning our wedding I got pregnant again and this baby fought through everything. I was only 20 and now she is 18 and in college. I was blessed with another miracle 6 years later he is now 12. My pregnancies were horrible in and out of the hospital and bed rest but they were both born healthy and happy. Prayers to you!
