You guys!! I was going to wait a few days to share this cabinet with you, but I just couldn’t wait any longer. This is my new favorite piece in our entire house & honestly has inspired me & gotten me out of my funk that I’ve been in with this house of ours. We got this cabinet that my good friend Denny found us a while back.. I mean it was like a year ago I think. I wanted it so badly, but passed it up because I just wasn’t sure where we would put it. He moved out of the location that he was at & he lost it some how and I was so sad because I knew I could have found a spot for it. I thought it was gone forever. But who knew a year later he came pulling up with it on a trailer & I was ecstatic! Fast forward past it sitting in our garage for a few months, we finally moved it into the farmhouse this past weekend & I can’t believe how much more I love it now that it’s inside!
If you remember this spot from before this piece was in here, this is where the tall cabinet with all the cozy white quilts was. You can see where we moved that cabinet [HERE]. We just moved this large piece here a few days ago so I quickly styled it to post it, but I’m sure I will be changing things around very soon. This cabinet is about 8 feet wide & 6 feet tall so it’s a big boy. It also has great storage with five doors across the front & tons of shelving inside with beautiful beadboard. The awesome thing about this cabinet was that Denny found it in an old abandoned factory that was being torn down. They had to take it down flights of stairs in the dead heat of summer & ended up having to cut it right out of the building. I mean, that’s dedication right there! I’m so glad he worked so hard at rescuing this piece because our home really needed it. So, not only is it pretty… it’s practical… & has a cool story! The crackle finish on the front steals my heart every time I look at it.
You guys, know I have a small collection of white chippy cabinets going on. It’s a thing. But this one is my new favorite. I should do a post on all of them soon to show you where they are in our house and how they are styled, but for now let’s just admire this big beauty & also have a moment of silence for the guys that had to carry it in here. You know I’m all about lifting furniture and moving things around, I mean we own a store where we are doing that daily & we do it at our house almost daily as well, but I was not about moving this one & was very thankful for the help. Thank you guys for stopping by the blog today & for checking out this new cabinet our living room. What do you think of it? Let me know in the comments below, find me on Facebook, and chat with me on Instagram. I need to know… what would you use this piece for? xx
Wow what a beauty – I love when things have a great story!!
OOHH, I think I want to marry that awesome thing!!! I luv it!!
My dad recently gave me an old chippy cabinet. I’m wondering what you do to make sure that any potential lead based paint will not be an issue in your house.
Thanks!!
It is perfect! Love the chippy white and the wood inside! Another good reason for you to stain your floors instead of painted white, so this baby will stand out!! So jealous over all of your cool finds, my weakness is dark/army green stuff (trunks, cabinets, drawers, etc). I also like how you can use this cabinet for so much storage but just keep one door open for display.

Good morning! I love it and how you have it displayed is awesome! It would look perfect at my house where I am going to rip a section of cupboards out in the kitchen! It is so cool! Im glad it came back to you! Lori
I too am curious about how you handle lead paint concerns. I have found many wonderful chippy pieces that I love and I had to deal with lead paint before I brought it in to my home. Please make a blog post addressing this issue for us since you have so many chippy pieces.
Thank you
Ohhh. I LOVE it!! It looks so good! I’m curious, when you find these wonderful pieces, do they ever have that old wood smell? If so, how do you eliminate it? (I have a few dressers but they have that smell and it drives me crazy!)
Gorgeous! You are so talented and so lucky to find all these amazing pieces!
Amazing cupboard…..my heart skipped a beat I’m certain! It’s perfect in your home…..
It’s a beauty!! Love the story that came with it!! Keeper for sure!
Thanks for sharing with us! Xx
Love it! I could see it being used in a playroom as a really cool place to store all the kids’ toys and games! Bins and baskets would work beautifully inside.
It was meant to be???? a great piece, Happy for you, it’s awesome, can’t buy new cabinets that are anywhere near as beautiful. I have a couple. I don’t buy new things except couches and chairs. Love the uniqueness of “old”?
I LOVE this!! Good on you to just immediately put it together there!
I also passed up my chance on similar and bought a “safer” buffet…boy, do I want to turn back time!
Beautiful! Where is that pillow from? I love it!
I LOVE it. But the real question is…Is this Grace approved? <3
Great question!!! We need to ask her asap! haha
This is something that I learned of and was helped by someone as I looked at cabinetry that could be re-purposed when we are re-doing our master bedroom walk in closet; it has limited space, not like our other one at our beach house for sale, (sad!). but saw for example, china cabinets that as the salesperson and painter pointed out, they are solid wood usually and in good shape, often many shelves inside plus drawers for storing clothes that we fold! No one uses nor buys them anymore, she had two to paint,(in a milk-paint store–she sells pieces she did, some local art she supports via her walls, plus has workshops to instruct people how to do their own pieces w/ milk paint!). I saw one example but it did not strike me as much as say: your’s!! I love that! It speaks and almost IS you and how you are doing the farmhouse! I know that in your kitchens it’s being done, as you mentioned it. It is a great way to honor the house, its’age, and complement it along with the new pieces. I would love to see your overall plans even a sketch not to scale; the little office upstairs still is on my mind! Here we have a cooled/heated attic space that was once our kids’ playroom, needs paint, more windows than one at the far end of the house, basically, but it could be all that and more. Thanks for sharing, you are an inspiration. Best to you!
It isn’t often that such a large piece will fit perfectly in a room — especially the room that we want it in. This is perfect. Congratulations.
p. s. sorry, just saw you asked what this piece could be used for ! First of all, it looks like it is made for that space, between the 2 windows. Storage is always at a premium, we need it, also. I know it would be great for a music center, storing new and old LP’s and CDs, your DVD’s, etc. Some are easily transformed as equipment for playing music is in there. I have seen this done, a new/hand made reproduction cabinet, that could hold our stereo equipment. Find an LP player, for vinyl classic music that sounds incredible, get a good one for not much $, add a new needle, voila- a record player for albums- I got a new one for Christmas 2 years ago! We need to update our amp, and speakers- I also want stuff to be wireless as much as possible, but leading up to yes, drill holes in the back wherever the pieces w/ cords land, hiding them behind the furniture piece, and enjoy! Also I see the pillows, so keep quilts, even linens and wool blankets when it’s summertime, etc. It’s a great piece. I need something happening in my closet! Thanks again, xoxoxo
I LOVE IT!❤️ I love things that have a history and old patina. Great find!!!
I just read your story. I’m truly sad that you and your veteran husband haven’t been able to have a child! I pray you’ll have one soon, if it’s the Lord’s will! Thank your husband for his service to our great country and thank you for your support for him while in the service!
I just stumbled upon your Pinterest post and love your style!
Love this piece…so many possibilities. Noticed your area rug. Is it jute? Do you remember what type it is it where you purchased it? I have moved yo a new home…having fun decorating.
Crumpled newspaper. Fill the whole space. Also wipe or paintbrush on amber shellac the whole inside.
Where did you get that rug? Is it soft? Would it work well under a kitchen table? I want a natural rug in our kitchen but so many jute rugs are so hard for bare feet. Thanks for your help!
