I was casually talking with some of my friends this week & I started to talk about my fear of my pumpkins rotting because of how hot it is here in Michigan right now when I had a tip to share with you guys. It’s crazy because in August it was cooler here in the mitten state & now we are reaching 100 degrees in Fall, but I have a little hack that will hopefully make the pumpkins last even through the heat. But anyways, I was chatting with my pals and I thought this little easy hack was common knowledge, but they didn’t know about it so I wanted to share it with you guys today along with an amazing deal that I just started using & wanted to pass along…
The tip? I hope you didn’t think it was going to be some mind blowing thing, but it’s just super simple. So you know when you get soft spots on a pumpkin which starts the pumpkin in the rotting process? It’s usually under the spots of dirt on the pumpkin & it’s because that dirt & other debris causes mold on the pumpkin which causes them to be mushy and to quite frankly smell terrible. So my little hack is… clean your pumpkins thoroughly! That’s it. Clean the dirt off your pumpkins & it will help preserve them longer & help them to not rot as quick as they would with the dirt on them from the fields. Many people use a bleach mixture, but I go simple & do the soap & water method & it works! I used the Mrs. Meyers dish soap in the apple cider scent which is the perfect fall scent & a scrub brush. I cleaned all my pumpkins on my potting bench on our front porch which is super handy & now all my pumpkins are clean & smell like apple cider.. winning!
