Today I was sitting in our sunroom [YES! Finally enjoying the space!] the sun was spilling in & I was looking at all of the things we still had to do in the space. The floors are unfinished, their is no decor, the kitchen adjacent to it is a big mess and no where near finished, & so on… BUT with that because sun spilling in, I was way more focused on the progress that we have made. This room, even though it’s a sunroom, was dark and dreary before, but now it’s looking a whole lot different…
The sunroom before…
& now…
I just snapped a bunch of quick cell phone shots while I sat in here today to share with you guys. The new windows are in [read more about that here], we replaced the slider door, the flooring has been replaced, the space has been painted, & new pieces have been moved in. All those things have made the sunroom a whole new space & we still have a while to go. Things to do yet: replace the fan, hang a light in the breakfast nook, find two chairs for in front of the sofa, stain the floors, find a breakfast nook table that is a little bigger, consider window treatments, & of course decorate the space. I’m loving that all of the changes so far, along with all of the kitchen updates, has truly made the two rooms feel like one space. I simply can’t wait for it to all be done!!
Living in a fixer upper really comes down to your attitude a lot. You could look at this space and just see how far you had to go yet or you could look at all your progress that you have made. I would recommend you focus on the progress or living in a fixer upper will be a rough ride for you. Not that I’m perfect at doing that, but I’ve noticed when I do look at the progress it makes the journey a whole lot easier. So, here you go! This is what our sunroom looked like today & I wanted to share the fun progress with you today because I know a lot of you are truly along for this fixer upper ride with us. Thank you for sharing in our highs and lows.. y’all are the best and truly keep me going. I hope you know that. Thank you for stopping by the blog today! xx
Pretty! All those window$$$ remind me of the enclosed porch at our old brick bungalow. 10 windows — no waiting! Keep up the good work! I need to snap more in-progress photos of our Dutch colonial re-do!
I love the new windows and the light they allow in! Its a pretty room already, and while its not finished yet, it is a great space!
We bought a new home and most would think your done when purchasing new. When buying new you don’t get the charm and most like myself can’t afford builder upgrades. So we torn out flooring repainted, put up trim it’s starting to fill homey now. We done it all by ourselves and saved allot money. But I totally get looking at the progress instead what still needs to be done or what you want done LOL I just started following your progress and your home is beautiful. How is your hubby holding up with the remodel? We’re in the process of doing our master now and my husband was putting up shiplap. I said to him laughing gush you did ever think you would be putting shiplap for your room. The things they do for love 🙂

Awesome work! Thank you for sharing . . . Love all “your fixer up” ideas!
I love your attitude and you inspire me! I consider myself a “Fixer Upper”. I am going to apply your motto to life itself… “Living in a fixer upper really comes down to your attitude a lot. You could look at this space and just see how far you had to go yet or you could look at all your progress that you have made. I would recommend you focus on the progress or living in a fixer upper will be a rough ride for you.” We have good days and bad days but we have to remember that each day holds new promise and an opportunity to do better!
XOXO!
Love, love, love your sun room. Doesn’t even begin to look like the same space. Great vision and execution. I did have a thought about eindow treatnents. I’m not a huge fan of curtains except in “private” spaces, bedrooms, bathroom. However, that being said, sometimes you NEED to close off the sun for fear of fading or too much heat from the sun. I got Bali pull down shades that have no strings and basically just “disappear into the top and I love them. They are unobtrusive enough that i really don’t notice them, but are there when i need thrm. Win, win in my book. Just a thought.i can send a pic if you’d like, I think.
Love those new windows! Can you tell me where you got the two slip covered chairs? They look perfect. Thanks!
Love the space!
All that sunshine pouring in make it so wonderful for sitting when cold. It is just a start but looks so inviting, one day at a time and it will be done before you know it, enjoy each moment.
It’s looking so beautiful! & I enjoyed your IG stories about it too!
Thanks for sharing about how to keep yourself from getting discouraged in a fixer upper. We are on our 2nd and have made tons of progress, but for some reason today all I can focus on is what we haven’t done, the boxes and piles, and the things we can’t do right now due to repairing and replacing the lower level because of flooding from rain a few weeks after we moved in (the reality of limited funds). I needed a reminder. Sometimes you look at how lovely everyone things are and the progress they’ve made and you start that terrible comparison game that God never meant for us to do. Learning to be content in all things!
This room is so beautiful! I love the unstained floors…I know…weird, but I just love the “bleached” look of them. But also know if they were mine, I’d have to at least seal them to make them kid and dog friendly. I love that sofa and those chairs. Are the chairs staying in the room? Or are you getting different/additional chairs for in front of the sofa? I’m SO jealous. I would love this room. Happy for you even while sitting here and wishing I had that sunroom. LOL Happy weekend.
J’adore. Bisous, bon week-end.

The changes look fantastic!! You’ve probably already considered this, but what if you floated the sofa between the kitchen and the sunroom, so it was facing the windows and put the wing chairs in front of the windows facing the sofa. That way when you’re lounging on the sofa you could look at your beautiful view, the back side of that very cool deconstructed sofa would be visible and you wouldn’t have to search for additional chairs. Your entire home is coming along beautifully and we can’t wait to see the completed kitchen!!
It felt like this comment was FOR ME! We are just starting to work on our little place and I keep jumping ahead to AFTER in my mind… “Living in a fixer upper really comes down to your attitude a lot. You could look at this space and just see how far you had to go yet or you could look at all your progress that you have made. I would recommend you focus on the progress or living in a fixer upper will be a rough ride for you.”
Thanks for your wisdom today!
