Recently I think we FINALLY figured out what do put on each side of our fireplace. Many of you know that the dream is to eventually put large [real/working] windows on each side of the fireplace, but for now we needed to come up with a solution on what to do with the large empty spaces that are there. Well, I honestly don’t know why I didn’t think of this before, but one night I had a genius idea that solved our problem of these two empty spots for now…
It’s really the most simple thing ever. we already had these two large windows sitting on the bookshelves. That’s when I remembered the two beautiful wall sconces that we have from my line with Painted Fox [HERE]. Add the two together & what do you get? simply stunning lighting that fills up the massive spot. I’ve been looking for a place for these corbel lights for over a year now in our farmhouse & I’m so thankful that we now have them hanging. A bonus: This spot was so dark [hence why we want to put massive windows here someday] & needed some light so this solution is perfect all the way around.
How we hung these two things together? The corbel lights come with chords & a simple hanging system on the back so we simply drilled a hole in the center window pane of each window before hanging the corbel light on the center window pane. We then fed the chord through that hole from the front to the back. After the chord was fed through the pane to the back side we hung the corbel wall sconce onto the window & then it was time to hang the window/corbel light combo up on the wall. The chord convienenctly falls to the bottom of the window & we strung it down the side to the plugs on each side. I added a garland to the tops of the bookshelves which hides the chord even more. Honestly with pretty lights like that, who is looking at a chord?!
So here’s where we are at now… & this is probably how this area will stay [minus the garland and little decor pieces] until we finally get windows here one day.. that will be a glorious day won’t it? Until then, I’m pretty happy with this new view. What do you guys think of our little DIY lighting situation we have going on now? The sconces look heavy. Are the window frames attached to the wall? I think this is a great solution for your space, and one day massive windows will look great there!
Happy Weekend!
I love the old windows of course and the sconces. You may want to put the “real windows” on hold for some time and enjoy this. All of the deconstructed pieces make me crazy. I LOVE THEM. Also hiding the cords is so important I am crazy about doing that even in my holiday decorating. Hope you and Jose have a wonderful weekend.
