Hi guys!! I wanted to pop on here quickly today and answer a question I’ve been getting asked so much here on the blog recently & Instagram. I have felt so bad because my response has been “You simply put the Christmas tree in the basket & the bottom branches hold the tree up.” But I figured that wasn’t the best answer so I wanted to hopefully make it a little more clear today…
Our tree in the sunroom is in this basket that I picked up at World Market. The tree is sitting in the basket without a base [meaning the bottom pole doesn’t have the feet on it/Christmas tree stand] The tree is standing up by only the bottom the branches resting on the basket. The trick? Getting a basket with a smaller opening at the top so that the branches have a better chance at sitting firmly on the baskets edge. Making sure that the bottom branches are spread evenly so that it can hold itself up makes things a whole lot easier. Another thing you have to make sure is that the basket is taller than the distance from the pole to the bottom branches so that the branches can hold up the tree so that the pole doesn’t sit on the floor and make the bottom branches taller than the edge of the basket itself. That’s it. I also think it has everything to do with your tree & how well it can suspend itself on top of the baskets edge & getting a basket something like these that fits your needs…
TIP: Hampers work the best for this project because they are taller!]

Another tip is that you can add blankets or other items into the bottom of the basket around the trees base to hold it up straight & for some added support. Another bonus? If you get lucky enough that your tree base [the actual footed Christmas tree stand, not just the pole] can fit into your basket so that the actual base can hold itself up inside the basket which would also not require the bottom branches to hold it up any longer.
BUT there is actually another way you could do all of this… I’ve never needed to do this, but you could cut the bottom out of a basket to give the allusion of the tree being in the basket, but that it’s actually just around your Christmas tree stand. The possibilities are endless. They also make some great basket Christmas tree base stands that are quite unique, but a little different look than what we went with, but perfectly cute…
I hope this helps some of you who have been asking how we do this. There is no scientific way, but it’s just a matter of having a taller basket to fit your tree, preferably tapered so the bottom branches can hold the tree up, & of course there are a few more ways you can go about doing it. Again, I hope this helps & if you end up putting your tree in a basket don’t forget to show me a picture of it!! Thank you guys so much for stopping by the blog today be sure to follow me on Facebook & Instagram for more behind the scenes of what we are up to. xx

I also do the same with all my chrristmas trees, putting them in baskets, metal tins, or even wooden crates in my home (i put up 6 trees each Christmas) .
I have another method that i have used when i had a tree that just would not fit and stand appropriately. I took a cheap large plastic bucket, you can use whatever size you might need, i bought and cut a piece of pvc piping and put it in the bucket center , you need to make sure the pvc is the proper size for your tree pole to fit inside of; and then i filled the bucket with a fast drying cement from the home improvement store, , and allowed it to dry. once it was ready then i put the bucket in the basket and then dropped the tree trunk down into the pipe in the bucket. with some trees i have had to put old blankets or i have even used pillow inserts to stuff between the bucket and the basket to hold it tight and steady. then i put a piece of burlap over the cement/pvc base around the tree to cover all the ugly stuff. I have used runners, old tree skirt, blanket , fabric, anything that is visually nice for the tree. i hope this suggestion may help someone in the future, it may be getting a bit late for this christmas, but i simply store the holder in the shed til next christmas
Yesterday I saw a good looking Christmas ornaments on a website, the style is my favorite, and the price is cheap; but the seller in China, I did not buy things in the Chinese website, please give me some advice.

What about water???
This is my first year hearing about tree collars and I keep wondering where they have been all of my life?! I bought a tree skirt from West Elm this year and it is so tiny and doesn’t cover up the ugly base. Next year I’ll do this for sure!
I used an outdoor umbrella pole inside my basket to hold my tree up. It worked perfectly!
Oh my gosh! I could not figure this out! Thank you so much!!!!
