Ok, have you noticed I’m being so annoying and using exclamation points in all my posts lately? Yah. I can’t help it. I’m so overly excited about everything happening in our fixer upper lately that I just have to use them because it doesn’t seem right without them. Anyways… on to today’s exciting news in our fixer upper. We changed out the lights in the dining room! It almost doesn’t seem fair blogging about this today since the dining room isn’t “finished” so it’s not going to do these lights all the justice they deserve, but here we go…
So, if you have been following our blog for a while.. you know that one of the first DIY projects we did when we moved into this house was this DIY ladder chandelier [HERE]. I dreamed up the idea & Jose & I made it a reality… & it was lovely. So lovely. But, it was a lot. We hung that light before really diving into our renovations deeply so it was a BIG decision to make before knowing what we wanted in the space. The light was lovely, but it was large. The best part? I’ve seen so many of you recreate the light in your homes & that made me so happy to see! A few weeks ago I was sitting in this room & I was craving simplicity, but with a little Liz Marie twist. I found these antique white barn lights & knew they would look amazing in this space… in fact we are taking these lights into the kitchen as well. The Liz Marie twist? Instead of hanging one over the table, we hung three. Three antique white lights that simplify the space, but also make there own statement. Jose is a master at hanging lights & he basically created an exposed conduit system that wires all three lights up to one central electrical box. That’s how we turned one light box into a three light system.. I hope that makes sense but if you have a lot of questions, ask away & Jose will answer your questions & maybe even do a blog post on it. He’s the talented one in our relationship… I hope you all know that! You can find lights like these at many antique stores, flea markets, & even online sometimes with a simple search. I thankfully found some that were re-wired since they are antique so that part was quite simple for us, but totally doable if you find some that need to be re-wired.
So there you go. We went from three pretty crystal chandeliers hanging from a ladder to three simple white farmhouse lights. I’m obsessed with the change. I was sad to see that large statement of a light fixture go, but I’m thrilled with how fresh and clean it is now. This room has actually been going through some major changes lately like getting this new piece [HERE] & even changing around the layout. Funny story… this room is about to change even more because we are PAINTING THE FLOORS!! Read all about that [HERE] & I will be back asap with all the other changes in this space soon. Thank you guys for being a part of every single part of our fixer-upper journey. Ya’ll are the best!!! Thank you guys also for stopping by the blog today & every day to see what we are up to. xx
Really beautiful. I have a vintage green one over my kitchen sink and I love it.
I am obsessed with these lights!!! It really changed the feel of the space… I would love to read a post about that exposed conduit system Jose created. Such a great idea!
I love the new lights!!!
I love these! I have been on the hunt for the perfect lights for my bathroom and these might be perfect!
What did you do with the other lights you had in your dining room? Will you use them somewhere else?
I love the look of those lights in your dining room! I would love to read how Jose hung them. Thanks for sharing!
I love that you are simplifying your space. I think you will enjoy having more space to breathe ….. it always seemed so full before.
I love your house so pretty!!! Where did you get the rug under your dining room table? Also hope you enjoy coming to Colorado it’s almost 70 today.
I feel like it changed the look to a more cohesive look. Love them!
I liked the crystal ones better
How funny! My mom has these same light fixtures in her kitchen, found at a local salvage store, and she loves your blog.
Honestly, I didn’t think I’d like it (because I loved the old ones) but surprise! I do!! Very pretty, clean and relaxed addition.
They look so amazing!! Not gonna lie, I adored the chandys but these look right at home.
I’m torn….love them both. Is there a link to your diningroom chairs anywhere? I was looking at old posts and haven’t found one yet.
They’re wonderful! I liked the old ones, but I LOVE these! Great choice, friend! I find myself doing the same thing! I “get over” things like paint color (I’ve painted our interior rooms at least twice in 5 years!) and lighting (I’ve changed numerous fixtures and there’s no stopping me!) I guess it’s a good thing to embrace change, eh?!?! Xx
PS I used a lot of explanation points so you wouldn’t feel bad! ?❤️
I love them! They are a perfect fit. What fun to be able to make changes. Can’t wait to see what you use the other ones for. They are beautiful.
I reallly loved the crystal lights but love this look too! It really opens up your space and adds a little funky industrial farmhouse vibe! Change is fun!
Where are the lights from? You have such great style!
I like the simpler look. Are your potted plants live on the table? And if so, how do you keep your Rosemary alive in a pot? I have the most horrible time with it indoors…keep killing them.
I would love to know how Jose made the exposed conduit set up! I have wanted to hang 3 lights in our kitchen but couldn’t decide how to go about it since we have a super old house with plaster walls and ceilings so fishing wire isnt an option. I was considering a faux beam… until I saw these! Such a great idea!
Can you tell us where you bought your dining room chairs? I would also love a blog on how Jose hooked up the lights. I have one electrical opening in my dining room ceiling and would love to have a three light fixture.
Hello – Love those lights.
I have 2 of the old “Schoolhouse Green” pendants that I want hung in my kitchen. Please ask Jose if it could work to take a florescent panel and put 2 of the pendants in it’s place. I would love to see a video on how he did the conduit system to connect AND hide the wiring. Keep all your glorious renovations coming. I would also like to see more outside views of your property – I’m sure it’s going to be spectacular in springtime.
