I never thought I would have this. An office in the corner of our living room. But here we are… we have one. It all started a few weeks ago when we started our Vlog videos. Jose was having so much fun editing the videos while I blogged, but the problem was we were spending our nights in the office & in this old farmhouse of ours it’s not a well heated area.. in Michigan that is kind of miserable. Also, we were not residing in the rest of our house & only spending time in our office… We didn’t want that. The office was setup for more work meetings, work during the day [electric heater on during the day usually helps], & it’s used more for sure during the warmer months. We wanted to create an office area in the front living room where we could both hangout together [in the warmth] & work together while being cozy in our home… so, we did just that & today I thought I would share a few quick looks at what we have come up with for now…
The living room office space is next to that huge beadboard cabinet in our front living room & the built-ins by the fireplace. We used an antique table that I picked up at a barn sale last summer as the desk & I love the vintage how it looks in this little corner. I was drawn to it because of those lovely blue chippy legs & natural wood top. It’s the perfect size for a little work area as well. We really just needed space for our iMac & a little work area, nothing too big & grand. Above the table I hung this large clock [HERE] & I LOVE this look of the large clock over the small table. It’s so cozy & I know you guys know my love for large scale items. On the table I actually tried a few lamps… one from Magnolia [HERE] & one that I picked up while in Illinois last week from Midwest Retro Cool Stuff. I love both lamps here & as you can tell I’m totally into these dark lamps lately with all that contrast they provide. The chair by the table is an antique find & under the chair I just placed a mini round rug from World Market [HERE]. We just started using this space, but so far we are loving it.. but if we make any changes, you will be the first to know!
So, we are the office in the living room people now… are you? It’s actually really enjoyable & like I said, it adds the perfect amount of cozy to this room that we love. I love that it forces us to use this front living room more because I could probably count on two hands how many times we have sat in here since we first moved in before. It’s turning in to the perfect cozy too that we want to hang out in all the time now which makes me really happy. Living in a fixer-upper means that rooms are constantly changing & evolving over time as you work. One day we will have a good heat system in the office & maybe we won’t need a living room desk, but maybe we will just love this always & it will stay like this… who knows. Good thing I have the blog here to document all the changes & all the evolving right? Thank you guys for stopping by the blog today & for being here for all of the changes. Let me know what you think of the living room office area in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram. xx
Great little corner to work and be together. I like the Magnolia lamp better than the all black one. With the black computer monitor and the black lamp it seems to heavy in the pictures to me. Just my humble opinion! Have a great President’s Day.
I’m maximizing my space by creating the same. Except I have a massive niche to deal with! ???♀️
I love it. Looks cozy and it all fits in so nicely:) I love changing rooms. I do it all the time too. Sometimes it makes a room feel different and I like that.
Do you use your fireplace at all? I noticed 2 big trunks in front of it and you placed a couch in front of it. Just curious.
Love your new little office setup!!Now you get to enjoy this gorgeous space!
How do you keep the rugs so clean on a farm with indoor/outdoor animals?
I’m curious where you bought your candle holders? I’ve been looking for some just like yours, but so far the ones I’ve found are tooooo expensive!
Really love that clock. I clicked on the clock link but that is not the same clock. The hands and numerals are different. And your clock looks much bigger. Do you remember where you got yours. Thanks
