I’m back with another update on our upstairs makeover today! We are just beginning the makeover up here, but it’s already getting exciting. I shared last week [HERE] that we ripped out all of the carpet in our upstairs which was super exciting! It came on quickly because we wanted to hire out for that job & the people we were hiring didn’t have an opening for a while, but randomly the night before they told us they were able to come the next day & just like that all of the old smelly carpet is gone from our entire upstairs… SO THANKFUL! Though we have a TON to do up here, having the flooring in already feels better even though it doesn’t look to pretty…
Well, of course once the carpet was up we were left with subfloor & we had to lay new floors down. That’s why I wanted to pop in here today to just quickly answer the question we have been getting about what flooring we were putting in our upstairs…. well, the answer is… the same flooring we used in our downstairs! Yup, 8 inch pine boards just like we have in part of our downstairs that we painted. & yup, we will be painting it upstairs as well. Not sure the color yet, but I’ll get back to you on that. We installed the pine in the hallways, master bedroom, & guest bedroom in the upstairs. You can see our pine flooring downstairs & get all the info about what wood we use [HERE]. This isn’t a pretty post at all because the flooring installers just left today so this is what we are left with, but I’ll be back with a pretty flooring update soon! I just want to update you guys on the way for the big and the little things… Can’t wait to get some paint on these! We have been loving our pine floors downstairs & I think we are going to love them upstairs as well! Thank you guys for stopping by the blog today & everyday to see what we are up to! xx
Loving it already! Can’t wait to see it all painted.
It’s gonna be beautiful, no doubt! We did a major renovation on our main level 3 years ago and I also wanted wide plank pine floors. The guy at the mill and my husband talked me out of it and that is still a huge regret 3 years later! They said it would dent and scratch way too easily but I guess they didn’t see MY vision of old farmhouse floors.I wish I would have been more insisten because the flooring we bought from Lowe’s, although really quite nice, dents just by looking at it! Live your decor dreams Liz and don’t let anyone sway your decisions because so far they have been perfect!?
So you just laid the flooring next to the molding instead of taking the molding off and installing it on top of the floor? I feel like that may cause problems over time? The gap between them, floors contracting and expanding, etc. Is there a key reason why you guys went that route?
It is going to be amazing No doubt..
Love from Nashville,
Joanne
My husband laid this floor in the upstairs and we love it. He just coated it in a light white wash. Love it.
Wow! I just love it! We too have an old house and I was wondering if you have those nasty plaster walls? If so, what are your plans for the walls? I’m getting ready to removing layers of painted wallpaper off my upstairs! Its on the ceilings too! I ripped off a section and yikes! its nasty, even some cracks! Gotta love plaster! Thanks Sweetie! I look forward to your IG and blog everyday! You’re a gem! I’m only 2 hours away so I’m hoping to make a trip to your store soon!
I was so hoping we would be seeing the upstairs soon. Can’t wait. Have fun it looks great so far. 🙂
You are going to noticed that your breathing and dust will be so much better, it’s going to be beautiful♥️?
You and Jose always do beautiful work and I’m so glad that you include us on the journey. I look forward to the process and reveals!
It’s going to be beautiful! Are you just laying the floor next to the trim or did you take the trim out first? Also, how do you keep the cracks in between planks from collecting dirt and debris?
