Oh gosh! It’s that time of year again…
Where the windows are open at night, allowing the crisp cool autumn air to creep in. Now its early fall so there are some summer vibes still out there, but the cool is definitely creeping in and so very welcomed here on the farm after a hot & humid summer we had.You all know how much I love this time of year, from the fall scenery, constantly having a hot drink in my hand, and looking at a closet of comfy sweaters.
We are starting to prep the farm for the cold weather that is coming down the road in the next few months, to ensure the sheep have a cozy little space when winter follows this fall season. Prepping the farm for winter is a huge task for us so that it can still run smoothly when the ice and snow come. We work hard during the summer months to knock out some big projects in the house, all with the intention of fully enjoying our spaces during fall and winter.
While we are able to spend nights tucked under our favorite throws and blankets, we really cannot forget that there are many people out there that don’t have homes & staying warm isn’t a guarantee each night. While we have a warm and cozy place to come everyday it makes me want to give back even more in the winter months to those who are struggling.
We were so happy to find out about a great company on a great mission, Sackcloth & Ashes. Sackcloth & Ashes has taken on the pledge of giving back to the community through the currency of home decor. Home decor & giving back? I’m in!! For every blanket purchased from them, Sackcloth & Ashes donates a blanket to a local homeless shelter. How amazing is that? A cozy blanket for your home & one gets donated to someone in need.
My blanket is the Sackcloth & Ashes Arrow Beige Blanket [Link], and it fits so well into our newest space we are currently designing, but there are other options to fit nearly any space.
Other options are:
- Sackcloth & Ashes Arrow Black
- Sackcloth & Ashes Tribal Moonlight
- Sackcloth & Ashes Tribal Sunrise
- Sackcloth & Ashes Tribal Turquoise
You can read more about Sackcloth & Ashes here [link], but a quick summary, founder of Sackcloth & Ashes, Bob Dalton, was inspired to help the homeless population when his single mother, found herself living on the streets in 2013. Afterwards, working with the shelters, he found a common need of blankets across multiple locations. Because of her story, Bob realized that not all choose to be homeless, some people just need a second chance. Giving back through blankets, who can’t get behind that!
Cost Plus World Market and Sackcloth & Ashes are excited to partner together and encourage others to pay it forward this season. Join me on this deed of good doing. Beginning October 1st, World Market will be offering 5 exclusive Sackcloth & Ashes Blankets in-store & online at worldmarket.com. And, for each blanket sold at Cost Plus World Market store or online at worldmarket.com, a blanket will be donated to a local homeless shelter. Plus, each Sackcloth & Ashes Blanket purchased in-sore or online come in a box with a checklist of other items that can be donated to a local shelter.
It feels so good to give back with something I enjoy doing, decorating our home. They sent us a blanket to help spread the word, and I absolutely love everything about it. It is made of a mixture of wool, polyester, acrylic, and recycled materials, this is surprisingly soft to the touch while it keeps all the heat in… With these cool nights, its already been used for a few times to keep us warm and cozy. It fits so well in this new space we are working on… more to come on that! But this tribal look gives us a great accent throw on our couch, or neatly folded set on a bench or at the end of the bed. I have been snuggling under this blanket nightly and it’s a great reminder to give back and help others. As far as cleaning this cozy guy, they recommend dry cleaning g it or washing on cool and laying flat to dry.
On top of donating a blanket, when your blanket comes in the mail, the box that it comes in can be re-used to donate additional items of need to local homeless shelters. The box includes a list of popular items, to make giving back to the community that much easier.
If you want to get a jump start on what you’ll need, so when your blanket and box come in the mail you’ll have everything. Here is a list of products that needed by most shelters.
- Gloves (waterproof are best)
- Socks (thermal or wool)
- Beef Jerky
- Canned Tuna
- Ziplock bags
- Granola bars
- Peanut butter
- Chewable vitamins

All around I cannot say how much I enjoy Sackcloth & Ashes mission and how they have gone about talking local issues for those in need. Also, the blanket is super warm & cozy which you all know I love all the cozy things in our home. While snuggling underneath it lately I am reminded about the joy of giving back & that we need to give of our time, talents, & money more often.
I hope todays post inspired you in two ways… for your home decor & for giving back. I love talking about all things home decor & DIY, but my heart truly grows when we start talking about giving back. More on giving back coming very soon, but I truly hope you guys check out Sackcloth & Ashes & give back this fall & winter season!
