WHY HAVE I WAITED SO LONG TO SHOW THIS TO YOU? I have no answer for that, but I’m here today to finally share with you the built-ins that have started to make our old dining room in our farmhouse into our shared office. For a little setting of our office: Our office is now located in our old dining room that connects the front living room and our kitchen/sunroom. Jose and I often work from home so a shared office in the main part of the house was a huge dream after using one in the back of the house for several months [We have since put a sofa and chair in the old office and transitioned in to our den and hang out in there quite often because of how cozy it is. We moved the desk from the old office into the new shared office space and oh my I feel so much more productive having the office in the middle of the house where it’s easily accessible. We have had many many meetings with people in here since moving it into the old dining room and it’s convenience and openness has made it a dream to work in for us and our guests. Ok, I hope that all makes sense and I’m actually excited to show you our den space as well now. Or as Jose calls it… the study. He’s so fancy. Ok, now that you get the idea of where the office is in our house and where we are going with this office space. Now, On to those beautiful built-ins…

Aren’t they beautiful? You know how I talk to you often about our love for DIY and doing projects ourselves in our farmhouse. Well, some we leave for the experts and this was one of them. Our floors in our 1800’s farmhouse are not straight you could say… & that would be an understatement so built-ins were going to be a huge challenge that we knew the perfect guy for. Our builder, Matt Westerbrink, who we work with often on projects has a passion for building cabinets so we knew that we wanted his assistance on. Let’s just say from one side of the room to the other there is a 2-4″ difference in the base trim because of the slope. Crazy! It takes a lot of patience, talent, & expertise to make that look good & he did! We wanted built ins to cover the large back wall with the door leading to the laundry room. We requested cabinet doors on the bottom for storage of all things office-y like paperwork, books, tools, and other items. Above the cabinet doors we wanted adjustable shelving to display some of our favorite antique finds and useful items like craft supplies, additional storage, and mini collections that we have acquired over the years. In Jose’s wisdom he says that I will probably forever be styling and re-styling these shelves forever, but it’s so much fun for me and these open shelves in the office are a dream come true! Want to know what else is a dream come true? That ladder!!

Beauty and the Beast was my favorite movie growing up for many reasons… that ballroom in the castle, belles beautiful hair, the adorable dad, the little cup named chip, & of course…. that ladder in the library she rides around on! I have forever dreamed of having a rolling library ladder & I still get giddy every time I walk into the office and see this ladder. You bet your bottom dollar I have ridden this thing many times across the room. You can also bet that I’ve looked for other places I can put a rolling ladder in the house. The ladder is the cherry on top of our office built-ins. You can find the ladder we used [HERE].

I will be back soon with more of the office details, but I just couldn’t go on any long without sharing a better glimpse at these office built-ins and that dream rolling library ladder. This is an amazing space, Liz! I also work from home and understand how important it is to have a space that gives you joy, and feels “just right”.
That’s an awesome office space! And that ladder! Yes!
I love all your collections and how well they are displayed in this amazing built in.
Liz! The black “clock” is a timer used in a darkroom to gage exposure time for negatives or pictures bathing in chemicals being devoloped. My father was a printer and had one of these in his darkroom! ❤️
Wonderful! Please share the source of the lower cabinet door handles!
Thank you
Everything about this room is an absolute dream! I LOVE it!
Amazing! These built-ins with the ladder are perfect. Love every detail that you put into styling them, too! So beautiful!!
Be still my vintage collections heart! I can imagine years of styling fun! Your office looks like an area of great creativity and the source of endless possibilities. Most importantly it reflects the people who live there!
This is STUNNING & so practical! Also I love the Beauty & the Beast ladder reference…I equate my love of them/daydreaming about someday having one to that movie and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (the classic one)!
This is beyond STUNNING! So many beautiful vintage collections. You have done it again Liz! I am OBSESSED!
Total guess but the way the top of the scale is shaped and the fact that it’s larger for only reaching 20 lbs could be a baby scale!
Absolutely stunning!!! Can you tell me the color you painted the door?
I LOVe this! Beautiful!
Oh also what color is the laundry door? ANd are the cabinets pure white? Thanks!
So beautiful, especially love the ladder and the painted floor. Can you share the type of paint you used and just a few instructions
Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home with us.
I love the built-in shelves! I’d love to have an office this beautiful one day! I can’t figure out which is my fave…. the old shoe forms or the clocks!
