After a fast two years with our kitchen being somewhat done. I wanted to do a quick post on our open shelving decision and our DIY shelf brackets.
Open shelving is a design choice that can be not only cost saving but a great way to show of some style within your kitchen. Like the rest of my house, I have shuffled around my shelf decor and displays through adding small Smeg appliances to displaying vintage stoneware. You could easily use your open shelving to show some splashes of color through unique kitchenware or kitchen tools. I am so in love with our shelves and their versatility, and they keep me honest and tidy by forcing me to keep our plates clean and organized.

For the shelves themselves we used Ikea EKBY VALTER Brackets and a 2×10. Extremely affordable and really easy to install. Recently we added a small shelf between our Smeg Fridge and our oven. We ran out of EKBY VALTER brackets, so we DIY’d our own brackets. Here is how our turned out. & by “we” I mean Jose. I went to the store one day and came home to these lovely shelves up in our kitchen & I couldn’t believe how perfectly he had imitated the Ikea shelf brackets!
After two years we are still very happy with our choice… they are another fun little way to show some creativity and personality within your home. I am struck by the copper pieces and how beautiful it looks offset by the white. It is so beautiful! I love the layers of interest that keep the eye bouncing around the room. Such a delight to the senses! You guys did an amazing job!
