So, with this Covid-19 virus going around I had other things to share today, but part of me feels weird sharing things here, so I wanted to take a day or two and start sharing all of our home decor and DIY posts again next week & today I wanted to pop in and share something helpful. I made some DIY disinfectant wipes today & I wanted to share the quick tip with you guys as well in case you were looking for an affordable way to disinfect your homes in this pandemic or if you have gone to the grocery store & they were out. It’s super simple to make & you probably have all the ingredients already in your home…

Ready to use wipes make keeping your home disinfected super easy and accessible when you are needing to wipe down all the things constantly. Here is what you need:
- A paper towel roll
- a knife
- bleach
- water
- container

Here is how to make the disinfectant wipes:
- Take a normal sized paper towel roll and place it in the container.
- Mark the top of the container with a marker
- Cut 1/2 to 1 below the mark with a knife
- Mix 1/4 cup splash less chlorine to 2 1/4 water
- Remove cardboard core from the paper towel
- Insert paper towel in container and allow for mixture to
- Absorb into the paper towel.
You can use a recycled wipes container for this DIY as it would be super easy to pull through the towels through the hole as that is what it was designed for, but to be honest any center will do. You can use the bleach as it disinfects everything, but there are also other combinations to use when making these wipes as well. Here are just a few:
DIY Windex:
- 2 cups water
- 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol
- 1/2 cup vinegar
Disinfectant Wipes [Non-Bleach]
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap
- 5-10 drops essential oil (optional)
Essential oil wipes:
- water
- dish soap
- rubbing alcohol
- drops of
- simple clean essential oil blend
Directions Mix ingredients together and pour over paper towels.

You can also do this with re-useable wash cloths if you have them on hand by simply placing a bunch of cloths in a jar [cut them up if large. or you can cut t-shirts or rags up] Place them in the jar and pour over the ingredients as needed. Super simple and effective!! Stay safe friends. Stay vigilant. & of course, be kind. Love you all! xx

Kudos to you for posting this timely information! We all need right now to be nesting as much as we can to prevent this pandemic from becoming even more serious. I work in the healthcare field so will be going to work but otherwise cozying up at home. Again, I appreciate your decision to switch gears to a subject that we all need to focus on now. ❤️
Are each of these disinfectants able to kill the Corona virus? I really, really want to believe they are! ?
It’s no different, maybe even better, than store bought ones.
Great DIY tip for wipes. Big problem in my area there is no bleach or alcohol to be had. Improvised with Lysol cleaner works great.
Thanks for sharing! Just a FYI, Clorox splashless bleach does not disinfect! Plain Clorox bleach does.
Where did you get the container pictured?
Thanks for sharing! What kind of paper towels are you using that don’t dissolve and become useless after standing in liquid? I tried Bounty and Viva and they both became like paper mache within a few hours. So went to cut up tshirts and those worked like a charm, plus they can be used over and over. so win for the environment too! There are also some super easy DIY hand sanitizer “recipes” online, available just by googling. Thanks for the timely tips!
Thanks for the input on the paper towels, Crystal.
I second that. Found that out recently about splashless bleach.
Bleach must be put into an opaque container; otherwise it will lose its potency and will no longer kill germs.
Liz, thank you so much for all of these easy yet effective cleaning and disinfecting recipes! During this crazy time we can all use some homemade goodness that is probably not available for purchase right now!!
Take care;)
You can put the solution in a clean spray bottle & wipe down with a clean paper towel.???
As a chemist I must tell you that once bleach is mixed w water it starts to degrade. It only holds it’s disinfectant properties for no more than 3 days. It may still smell but it won’t clean any better than regular soap and water. It’s just the nature of things.
So does that make Clorox wipes useless as well chemist??
Clorox is a brand. They make bleach and other cleaning products. Clorox wipes simply refer to disinfecting wipes made by Clorox. There is no bleach in them. Typically it’s recommended to mix fresh bleach water daily if you actually want to disinfect something. Luckily bleach is cheap and effective if used properly. Stay safe!
That’s a lot of bleach.
The CDC recommendations are: To make a bleach solution, mix:
5 tablespoons (1/3rd cup) bleach per gallon of water
OR
4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water
