I’ve been calling this week the unofficial kitchen week here at White Cottage Farm. If you follow me over on Instagram you know that I am preparing our Kitchen for some really exciting filming. While I can’t say much more about the filming, I can say I want everything to look its cozy best in the kitchen and I will update everyone as soon as I get the go-ahead to say more! So today I am prepping the shelves by doing a little re-styling and I thought I would share my thought process and steps I go through when styling shelves. Here was the space before I styled when I removed everything off the shelves to start over:

DIY Peg Rail
You may remember that at the beginning of the year we decided to extend the peg rail shelving around our kitchen. We took out the hood vent that was above our range (we have another vent nearby) and filled that space with more shelving! Jose was able to put his directions and the materials needed for the in a blog post here click here [HERE]. Our cozy kitchen shelf got even cozier after this DIY and we are so glad we took the time to do it!

Kitchen Accessories
Next, you’re going to need some items to put on your shelves! I really enjoy having full shelves of functional items that can be displayed and used frequently. I know what you’re thinking… aren’t you worried about dust? How do you find the time to clean all of the items? Honestly, because I use all of these items frequently, there isn’t much dust that accumulates & the upkeep is minimal in our home. I for sure wouldn’t recommend open shelves like this if you live in a high dust area, but if you style with things that you will use frequently… you shouldn’t have a problem. I was able to find a lot of the items I use or similar options and put them all in a kitchen accessories blog post [HERE]. Below are also some similar items:

Now It’s Time To Style!
I would suggest filling your cozy kitchen shelf with items that work for you and your family. Playing with different shapes, textures, and depth of field is best to create the shelves that you see here. One of my favorite elements to focus on is keeping the space balanced; ensuring the visual weight of the space is relatively even from one end to another, always keeping in mind the way the eye travels along the entire space. Finally, always step back from the space and assess if things need to be rearranged. Don’t forget to snap a picture to get the full effect! Keep playing until you get it right. You can see more of my shelf styling tips [HERE] & [HERE] & [HERE].
Top it all off with some fresh clippings from your yard & voila you have fresh new styled shelves in the kitchen! Do you have a process you go through when styling cozy spaces in your home? I would love to hear the steps! Let me know on either Facebook or Instagram. Thanks for stopping by the blog today and every day!
