As we transition from Christmas décor to winter décor, here on White Cottage Farm, I find myself craving a different vibe in each space of our house that is currently not under construction. In some rooms, I’m craving simplicity with no winter greens, maybe just a plant or two. But in our front living room, I was wanting more of a cozy formal winter look using some of our leftover greens from Christmas and I was really inspired by a handmade sign I got from one of my favorite people I follow on Instagram, Carried Away Antiques. Here is the look that I came up with for this space this winter.
For cozy cottage winter décor, I always think of contrast, tons of textures, greens, wood tones, and lots of natural elements. That is exactly what I did in this space. I started with a backdrop and that is the black and white sign, that I got from Carried Away Antiques. l love that this sign could be styled with Christmas décor and transition to winter because it is not holiday-specific. That is a tip when you purchase your Christmas décor, especially the big things! Think of textures and contrast rather than literal Christmas décor, so you can use it longer, save money and save storage space. You can shop the above items.
This front room in 2022 will go through a lot of changes and just like most of our house, this room is just in a state of in-between as we wait to be able to make it what we want it to be permanently. In the next year, we hope to be able to add a wall and beautiful doors to make this more of a cozy formal sitting room. Another thing that has been on our checklist for 5 years is to finally re-do this fireplace and make it functional. I’m wanting some sort of stone. I would love to make it more of a focal point and of course making it fully functional.
In the meantime, we’ve made it cozy with what we have. One thing that I did that is not a permeant change, is move the pine cupboard in the corner. I hope it shows someone out there that you can put a cabinet in the corner and still make it look cozy. I want to show everyone that even when your home isn’t “finished”, you can make it cozy even in the in-between. It doesn’t have to be “perfect” or exactly like your end vision to be functional and pretty. This room is perfectly cozy for winter.
I hope that this cozy cottage winter décor makes you feel extra cozy today and inspires your vision of cozy for your own home.
