The Birch Lane Sale of the Year is here! April 27th & 28th shop cozy home decor up to 50% off. So many of my cozy home decor items I purchased through Birch Lane. They really offer a great selection of quality items. I thought this would be the perfect time to share some of my favorite Birch Lane items, home decor that I have my eye on from the sale, as well as a DIY that I did with one of my Birch Lane benches!

Cozy DIY
Have you ever purchased a wood furniture piece that you love so much, but want to change the finish to match other wood pieces in you home? That’s exactly what ended up happening with this wood bench. The original state of the bench was beautiful just as is, the reason I got it in the first place. However, I do think that more raw look just jumps out and fits our aesthetic here at White Cottage Farm, so much better. Our method for Easy-Off Oven cleaner is to generously apply it to the piece of furniture and leave it for about 40 minutes. One of the pro’s I like about this application is that it is a spray. This makes it easier to get on those unique features and grooves.
After 40 minutes, with a bucket of water, I starting with the less abrasive options of sponges, sos pads, light steel wool, and vegetable brush. I try to find what works best. Each piece can be different as to the type of finish on the piece. This technique works for old and new items, the different finishes come off easier than others. Outside of those sponges another finish remover can be a pressure washer. This is Jose’s favorite way to do so because it not only washes all of the oven cleaner off but comes off really well, especially in the small grooves and design features. You do need to be careful with using pressure washers because it can dive a little deeper than just the finish. If you don’t care and love the worn look, go ahead and have fun.
Another method to lighten up your wood furniture is to do my wood bleach DIY, found here [HERE].
